As an aside, this isn't uncommon. The school is reachable, there are probably rescue units near there even on a good day, and the buildings were large which means a whole lot of debris. The houses were demolished, but people got into windowless rooms, etc.. They are difficult to get to. There are people with backhoes and other equipment helping clear debris from on top of people, and there are people getting to hospitals.
There are also concerns about a movie theater, but it could be the structure fared better.
Fox is reporting that the rescue efforts at the second elementary school are now recovery efforts. They anticipate 24 dead 3rd graders.
