Tom Davis’ Army - RON PAUL’S “REVOLUTION” RALLIES BEHIND FISCAL CONSERVATIVE STATE SENATOR

During the 2012 Republican presidential primary, S.C. Senator Tom Davis (R-Beaufort) was one of the most coveted endorsements on the “First in the South” political board. The Politico named him one of its “50 politicos to watch” in early voting states, while a CNN story referenced him as a “rising star” in the national Tea Party movement.

To many insiders, though, Davis squandered his moment – choosing to endorse U.S. Rep. Ron Paul over a trio of establishment “Republicans.” Paul wound up finishing in fourth place in the Palmetto State – although his 80,000 votes represented a five-fold increase over his support from 2008.

So … did Davis squander his moment?

We don’t think so …

Davis’ decision to endorse Paul has netted him an energized army of new South Carolina supporters – a potent base from which to launch a statewide campaign. And Davis has shown remarkable adeptness at rallying this growing movement behind him – mixing Paul’s libertarian ideology with a fierce populist stump presence that’s eerily reminiscent of the late Louisiana Gov. Huey Long (minus the “every man a king” socialism, naturally).

In an especially feisty speech earlier this week, Davis welcomed Paul to South Carolina – praising him among other things for his efforts to audit the Federal Reserve.

“This is not a Republican issue, it’s not a Democratic issue, it’s not a Libertarian issue, it’s an American issue,” Davis said in his speech. ”It’s in our DNA as Americans to stand up as free people.”

Bump for us, as in us, not U.S. although U.S. too in a sense (talking about circles) :)

Here are a few ideas:

1) One of the South Carolina congressmen should run for senate and Tom Davis should run for their seat OR
2) He could just run directly against RINO Senator Graham in the primary in 2014 OR
3) He could wait for 2016 when conservative Senator Jim Demint retires and run for his seat...he would be a great successor!

Either way...we need this guy in the national stage!

yes. congress needs this man

or he could run for a house seat since those are easier races for us to win.

I don't think it works that way. Republican seats in Republican areas are easier for Republicans to win. If you are thinking of Bills, he is in a Dem area with a popular Dem Senator opposing him, not that I'm giving up hope there at all -- he is Ron's first pick for Senate as a person, in this election.

But we can win state wide races. It does matter which state we are talking about.

And also, which candidate. In this case we have an excellent potential candidate.

I am hoping that he runs for a Congressional seat. I admit, I was really wondering what would happen now that Paul is retiring. But with Amash, Bentivolio, Rand, and Davis all on the rise, I have hope.

Trust me I'd prefer a Senate seat to a House seat, but I'm not sure when the next Senate seat will open? Do we know for sure when Demint or Graham will retire? And State-wide races are almost always harder for anyone to win because there are way more opponents and your chance of winning the primary is way smaller, especially in a state like SC. In the meantime I'd love for him to upgrade to the House, which is usually an easier route with less media smearing and opposition. imo.

Demint said he would retire at the end of his term. :(

Graham doesn't plan to retire...he's running in 2014. Davis can primary challenge him or wait until Demint retires in 2016. Demint is an honorable man and has sworn to not run in 2016 (and I believe him...why else would he give most of his campaign funds to the Club for Growth. His bank account is nearly empty while Graham has nearly a million dollars in the bank).

If Davis wants an easier route...I suggest he waits until 2016. I don't encourage him to run against any of the congressmen (unless it'sClyburn...although I don't think he lives in Clyburn's district) because the Club for Growth fully supports all 5 other representatives...and I do too (they're awesome...even Justin Amash is supporting some of them (like his friends Jeff Duncan and Mick Mulvaney). If he waits until one of them retires or he runs for Demint's seat...I think he could get the Club for Growth's support (they've helped people like Thomas Massie, Rand Paul, and Justin Amash). If he runs against Graham...there is a chance they will support him (considering Graham's pitiful rating with them).

Tom Davis has a bright future...he just has to wait for the right time...consider that Amash, Bentivolio, Paul, and Massie all got (or are getting their seats) because these seats are open. I suggest he waits for an open seat...it may be easier. But running against Graham isn't a bad idea. Conservatives all over the spectrum hate Graham (although for different reasons).

I mentioned to Senator Davis at one Ron Paul SC Debate that we sure could use being done with Graham. :p

I sent the honorable state senator this e-mail:
State Senator Davis,

A lot of us are excited about your close friendship with Rep. Paul. We were discussing you, and I started wondering: What is your relationship with the congressmen from South Carolina like Reps. Mick Mulvaney and Jeff Duncan? I understand that you all served together in the state legislature. Please let me know. A lot of us would like to know.

(I will disclose if you want why we are asking this after you respond. Thanks! :) )

Spoa

Mick Mulvaney and him served in the state senate together for 2 years. There are only about 27 of them in this chamber. If they have a close relationship, I can imagine some in the SC congressional delegation supporting him over Graham.

I read an article before I went to this event that said Sen Davis may challenge Gov Nikki Haley. For those that don't know, Haley had protesters arrested on public property.

Weeks afterwards, the state said she did not have that power so they proceeded to pass legislation to give her that power. She also endorsed Romney and shockingly has a speaking slot at the RNC.

Don't forget Thomas Massie! We're just getting this party started folks.

Demint said he would retire at the end of his term. :(
This is true. We might need Davis to replace Demint in the Senate so we actually wouldn't even have to fight Lindsey in a costly primary. I want to replace Lindsey more than anyone but it would take a lot of money, a great candidate, a volunteer army, and a lot of luck to do it.

By the way Davis replacing Demint would be a net gain too. Demint has been getting better in recent years and is rated about three stars ★★★ on the Liberty scale. Davis is much more aligned with the Pauls on every issue and is endorsed by Ron himself so he gets ★★★★★ - green five stars.

Everything hinges upon getting him back in the SC state senate this election. We can play it by ear when 2014 rolls around if he have him take on Graham or wait till 2016. I think 2016 will be a huge year for us because when Rand runs he will elevate all our other candidates running for office and will make public appearances with them across the country. Rand will have long coattails in 2016 and he could help propel our people to victory.

No, no...a thousand times NOOOOOOO! Governor Haley may have made a mistake, she may be a Romney backer (which some here don't like), but she has been pretty fiscally responsible (better than most governors).

America needs Tom Davis in the senate or congress. We have a lack of good people there. Tom Davis should forget about the governorship (unless he wants internal fighting...I know conservatives who would hate his guts if he ran against Nikki Haley...this would also renew the "Republicans are racist" comments by the liberals.) Tom Davis has better things to do than run for governor. If he ran for senate against Graham, almost all conservatives would support him. Tom Davis should repeat after me: SENATE 2014...NOT GOVERNOR!

God help us if we can't get rid of Graham until he's ready to retire. That man is a primary challenge waiting to happen.

The right to life is a huge issue to me. I know that Dr. Paul would not endorse anyone who is anti-life, but I decided to just check to make sure:

http://righttolifeactofsc.net/?s=davis

If you scroll down, you'll see that Tom Davis is fully pro-life. (By the way....what about Lee Bright? Maybe he could run for the senate or congress. My thought is that we should let Tom Davis run for senate, then one of the congressmen (hopefully the one where Lee Bright lives) run for senate when Demint retires, and then Lee Bright can run for congress :) )!

(I also found out that Tom Davis sponsored a pro-life bill. He should run for senate :) ! Lindsey Graham has supported the most pro-abortion supreme court justices like Elena Kagan. )
