Today would have been Bob Ross' 70th birthday. RIP

Honestly, I thought he had passed already. Hey, the guy did beautiful things on canvas. Thanks Bob.

Having held military positions that required him to be, in his own words, "mean" and "tough", "the guy who makes you scrub the latrine, the guy who makes you make your bed, the guy who screams at you for being late to work", Ross decided that if he ever moved on from the military, "it wasn't going to be that way any more", "vowing never to scream again".

That was a great show. I wish my painting teacher had taught me to paint as well as him. R.I.P. :(

Having held a military position I decided I would never work for someone I wouldn't hire. :D

His show used to mesmerize me as a kid. I'd try to mimic his techniques, but it never came out nearly as well as when he'd do them. That guy had magic in every brushstroke.

I couldn't afford all the materials when I was a kid or I would've imitated him too. :(

Fluffy little clouds.

Ultimately, I can only draw technically, like my dad. My "fluffy little clouds" look more like the marshmallow man.

I was going to start a thread about his birthday but I was beaten to it. :)

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Anti Federalist again.

He was such an inspiration to me as a kid. I would watch his shows and its like all my stress would melt away and I was in the painting. I loved how he would catch squirrels and raise them then let them go

same here.

When asked about his laid-back approach to painting and eternally calm and contented demeanor, he once commented: "I got a letter from somebody here a while back, and they said, 'Bob, everything in your world seems to be happy.' That's for sure. That's why I paint. It's because I can create the kind of world that I want, and I can make this world as happy as I want it. Shoot, if you want bad stuff, watch the news."

He was so calm and creative and happy, and every painting was too. I used to love that show. A real mood-lifter.
