Thomas Woods Talks How Rand Can Get Back in the Race

Summary: "Rand sucks, he needs to be more libertarian, more like Ron, more isolationist, run an educational campaign."

Tom Woods wants to tell Rand how to win elections?
Tom is exceptionally arrogant, but he doesn't even know it. He is completely blind to his arrogance.

Tom is a brilliant orator, scholar, historian, and economist, but he does not know anything about electoral politics. He doesn't understand that he is ignorant on the subject, but yet because he is so well educated in other areas he assumes he is smart here too which is not the case. Electoral politics are not intuitive, and voters do not act on rationale, logic, or facts. The worst part yet is that he apparently refuses to get educated on the subject before running his mouth about it . :(

I have to agree with that assessment, and he also seems to forget that Rand actually won a Senate race somehow.

Steve Deace absolutely destroyed the campaign's surrogate that went on Deace's radio show. Tom Woods held his own against Deace, and even managed to educate him a bit that got him to rethink some things.

Tom is exactly right. To get Ron Paul you need much more explanation, and in many instances, you have to hold the hand of voters as you go over the bumps in the road that they've been led to believe; and I'm not only talking misleading things about Ron, but about history, economics, foreign policy, etc. You really need to nurture these people, because voting for Ron was so often an exercise in self-examination and working through things you never contemplated before.

Tom just needs to listen to Jesse Benton.

Woods is right, and has been right. None of the empty suits running Ron's campaign listened, and I'd bet a thousand bucks nobody in Rand's campaign will listen either. Right now Rand is running an uninspired campaign. Something needs to happen soon or he's toast.

Here is an interview Tom did with Scott Horton in early May, discussing the same thing. The Rand talk starts around the 11 minute mark.

Bottom line, Rand has run a horrible campaign. He's turned off much of the base with his pandering on voter ID, weakness on immigration and damaged his support among libertarians trying to appease hawks in the party by signing the awful Tom Cotton letter.

The idiot Trump has shot up because he speaks for the working class and Cruz has been very shrewd by agreeing with much of what Trump says. All Rand had to do is say the Washington Elite has been telling the American people since 1986 that the border would be secured and 29 years later it's still wide open. While I might not have put it the way Trump did, but he has a point. How hard would that be??

I've maxed out on the money I can give Rand in 2015 and so far I've been disappointed. His dad almost got 21 percent in Iowa in 2012. With the crowded field in 2016 if Rand could hold on to his Dads supporters he would win Iowa. But polls show he's not close.

I'm getting a little irked by the weak-kneed supporters on this subforum. How about we have a little faith and save the panicking until at least Christmas?

And having seen how the pollsters did Ron Paul, can you really trust them when it comes to Rand? I'd bet anything Rand is already polling close to those numbers, but the polling firms will not report it until it gets time to when their credibility/bottom dollar will be affected. Damn guys, just hang in there, Rand is doing fine and is already polling higher than Ron ever did at this point in a much more crowded diverse field. Damn..

I hear ya! Holy crap!

The pessimism is palpable. And pathetic.

Rand will be in the debates. Rand will stand out in the debates. He will have to fight the media, but this ain't over yet.

Woods still hasn't told us whether he supports him. We can only assume. Rand's following is much larger than Ron's. The only difference is we were more excited about Ron because we knew he would put everyone on blast with no remorse. We wanted to see that. Rand is actually trying to grow the movement.

I'm not convinced Rand will have a better showing than his dad in Iowa and NH at this juncture.

Great Post. Rand has disappointed me greatly and has deviated from what led to his Randslide in Kentucky.

Can he do it? Yes.

Is it likely considering where he is at the moment? Probably not.

I completely agree with this assessment. Wead was downright terrible on Deace's program, and may have been even worse in selling Ron to Deace and his listeners. Woods was masterful in his interview. Woods can pitch Ron not only in anti-state terms, but also in terms that evangelicals and other conservatives can understand. And he does it while being personable.
