There is always an Elite. There has always been an Elite. There is every Reason to think that an Elite is natural, if powerful. Power corrupts. We know this.

Like in the Wizard of Oz, there are good witches and there are wicked witches. Wicked is not too strong a word for Capitol Corruption, I think. Bad Elite.

From time to time, a People is obliged to rise to the occasion of ridding society of Wicked. We shovel the shit (or another generation does, cursing us under their breath), and you know what will happen? Good Elite will preside magnanimously for awhile, and then people will start to cut corners, and riff-raff will cook up schemes to get a bigger piece of the action, and someone will cry, and someone will turn a profit by drying their tears, and all the people who are benefiting from the bullshit will keep quiet do as they're told and look the other way, and all the people who are getting screwed will get madder and madder while fewer and fewer live better and better . . . and then we-not-me can do it all again. Rinse and repeat, but not in my lifetime.

We're going for it now, or I'm skedaddling it to enjoy what's left of my life as best as I can. I am standing up to be counted. If the numbers aren't there, well -- we are nothing if not Bottom Line people -- the numbers aren't there. I've a big mouth and a bad attitude. This would be a good time for me to get out of Dodge.

Brain Drain is a well-recognized syndrome. That would be because Power Mongers are well-known to silence intellectuals. Can't have people filling people's heads with notions. Might makes right.
