There are too few atheists in the US

Richard Dawkins gave an awesome speech on how atheists need to become militant and proud in this country. He talked about how political opportunity is closed to intelligent and competent candidates who don't subscribe to the Christian fairy tale. Youtube 'richard dawkins militant atheism' and see what comes up.

Some of these evangelicals are absolutely insane. Check out pages 13 & 14 in the thread about a liberal judge forbidding the Gideons from passing out Bibles in schools (Issues subforum).

Often you will see people using religion to advance their own agenda at the expense of others. These cannot be held as representatives of the religion if they're not following their own teachings! It's the same as someone using government to get ahead. You don't condemn the idea of government and working out differences with other humans - you condemn the excesses and abuses, not the concept of "government" itself.

To be an Atheist requires as much (or more) faith as to be a Christian.

Saying you are 100% sure no Supreme Being exists is a statement of faith in a belief you'd have a hard time proving.

I'll allow that proving God's existence is challenging and takes a while too, but the point remains - Atheism requires a good bit of faith. It always struck me as odd that people would try to hard to believe in nothing, but hey, to each his own. :)

Basically, people trying to ram their beliefs down others' throats and being condescending toward the other party is annoying. Christians do this too, but this thread is a good example that Atheists are fond of it too.

We're pretty similar, aren't we? :P

*SNIP

Theistic religions scare the bejayzus out me. This is because all of them sanctify violence because the 'sacred texts' contain so much of it.

Jews, Christians and Moslems do not seem to address this problem of violence in the sacred texts. Nor the problem that it seems that God's overwhelming character is that of a violent, punishing, pathological Deity who uses unfathomable violence to both reward and punish.
I'm sorry if this seems like a superficial analysis of the Bible, the Koran and the Talmud or Torah and i certainly do not want to cause offense. I just feel that the problem of sanctifying violence needs to be addressed if we are to survive as a species.

The Old and New Testament shows us the difference between Law and Grace.

Violence is addressed in the New Testament: turn the other cheek, if he takes your shirt, give him your coat, and the fruit of the Spirit.

"Atheism is not a philosophy; it is not even a view of the world; it is simply an admission of the obvious. In fact, "atheist" is a term that should not ever exist. No one ever needs to identify himself as a "non astrologer" or a "non-alchemist". We do not have words for people who doubt that Elvis is still alive or that aliens traversed the galaxy only to molest ranchers and their cattle. Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make in the presence of unjustified religious beliefs. An atheist is simply a person who believes that the 260 million Americans (87 percent of the population) claiming to "never doubt the existence of God" should be obliged to present evidence for his existence-and, indeed, for his BENEVOLENCE, given the relentless destruction of innocent human beings we witness in the world each day."

God does exist and design is evident in the world. Food-chains, hierarchy of life, hierarchy of government, hierarchy of qualitative value (intelligence, goodness, etc.), and it's evident, although not self-evident, that God exists.

Actually it's the atheists who need to show how they believe in causeless effects that have design, and even if you deny design how can you deny effects of existence? Matter is finite and matter is non-causal.

The destruction of innocent human life is proof that God exists and loves us. Love implies a choice, something which cannot be quantified. This same choice can allow me to choose to love and hate, to be good and evil. Without such a choice I cannot love God. Free-will cannot be quantified as good people can do evil things and vice versa. When I choose good or evil God is not choosing, but allows through the capacities He has given us.

It would be like saying black people are evil because the majority of them comprise the prison system, which is racist because it fails to look at the individual and personal responsibility. Secondly, it contradicts common sense to realize that the freedoms that make us great and can be harmful, and yet simultaneously blame God for the gift. It's intellectual lunacy.

Atheism is emotional, it's not intellectual. I can prove God exists through causation. In fact the quote you posted shows the insanity of "atheists" that I mentioned before. No one says they are about something they are not. I said this earlier and was blasted as an ignoramus. You quoted the same thing from an atheist and no one has used the same argument against me as against your quote. Care to guess? Because reason can be suspended as atheists often do.

Lastly, atheists have done Dr. Paul's message a great disservice. Instead of realizing that Dr. Paul is a Christian and so all the sorry criticisms on the board be against Dr. Paul, and hurt all the potential people who don't want to use religion as a wedge against a candidate.

Great job guys!!!!
