The Secret Billionaire is Peter Thiel or the Koch Brothers

Alright jokes about the secret billionaire aside, because I'm sure back in 07 that was meant to be a joke and not serious, there really are at least a few people in VERY high places supposedly supporting Ron Paul and libertarianism.

Peter Thiel is a filthy rich, billionaire level (he might be a billionaire I can't remember) venture capitalist. He invested in Facebook early on. He supposedly supported Paul in 2007.

The Koch(s?) brothers are billionaires, and formed the CATO Institute to promote libertarianism. I've heard a poster on here say they're actually involved with the current political establishment, and just want more of the same, not actual change libertarianism would bring. It would make sense. I mean they are billionaires, and most billionaires have used the government to make their billions.

Regardless, I find this stuff fascinating because most movements in history are financed before becoming successful. You just need money to do anything in life. Even the American revolution had financing if you stop to remember that. So I'm always curious to learn about who some of the big people are financing libertarianism. For a large part, libertarianism is financed from the ground up, but not entirely. Even if that was 99% of where the money comes from, there would still be big players involved too, and to me its just interesting to find out who those big players are.

So I thought I would share this for anyone else interested to hear that supposedly Peter Thiel and the Koch or Kochs brothers are financing libertarian causes. I might add some links later, although I think you all know how to use google lol.

Unfortunately as you alluded to I think the Koch's are too wedded to the status-quo to expect them to support the kind of radical transformation that this country desperately needs. That is not to say that some of the institutions they fund are not a net plus for the cause of liberty.

I don't know too much about Peter Thiel but he seems to be more willing to use his resources for libertarian causes that many would consider 'outside-the-box'. For example I know he was instrumental in providing seed money for the Patri Friedman run Seasteading Institute. (http://seasteading.org/)

Omgz the secret bajillionaire haz returned!?!? Ron paul can haz bajilionionioairrress!?!?!?

clearly not the Kochs since they donated in the primary to the great libertarian freedom fighter Trey Grayson, not Rand.

I wasn't here in 2007, though....

What difference would it make if there were a secret billionare? Kochs can't funnel unlimited money to another man's campaign b/c of campaign contribution laws, that's why one of them directly ran for VP a couple decades ago: to fund his own campaign.

This comment made me do the People's eyebrow.

Through our company we are preparing to donate 2.5m. I know that a recent dinner in Dallas several fund managers are getting new EINs and putting in place a system that will by 2012 have Paul over a billion in his war chest. He is going to have the money to win, now onto the debate!

It's probably BS, though. I do see an attorney named Mark Packard and a psychiatry professor by the same name, both living in the Texas area.

By the way, what is an EIN? And what would be the system? It's probably BS

Peter Thiel maxed out to Rand Paul ($4500?). I know this because I held the check in my hands.

EIN=Employer Identification Number
A social security number for a business, to put it simply.

Ron Paul has my support and I have a 5 figure income...

you hear it here first...
