The real Mitt Romney surfaces as a school bully. (Washington Post)

The part that is disturbing isn't mostly that he did this kind of thing, its the part that he doesn't supposedly remember doing it. At the same time all of his classmates remember the incident clearly. Either that means he is a liar, or he participated in so much bullying that it didn't make an impression.

I agree. To fail to remember the incident seems strange. Very strange.

However, what Mitt Romney did half a century ago, when he was a kid, is completely irrelevant to the election today, and whole article brings more shame on the Washington Post than on Romney.

I don't think I ever treated anyone like that, but I certainly teased the holy hell out of everyone within earshot in a mostly friendly manner. Anything for a laugh. That's pretty much what high school was all about. ...but I still hate every version of myself that existed before about a year ago because of my general d-baggyness and stupidity. Mitt probably isn't proud of shaving a kid's head either. With that said, it seems silly to hold a retirement-aged man to things he did and said when he was 16. All of us did things that were less than noble in our youth.

There are plenty of real, philosophical and political reasons to hate Mitt. We don't need to dig up things he did 50 year ago.

I can relate to this. I agree we shouldn't be digging this up. It's just not relevant anymore, although I must say he has retained a bit of that even in his age: his generally hopeless, out-of-touch way of relating with the American people. He is the last man I would want as president, and that is one of the reasons why, but it really doesn't have anything to do with things he did in high school. It's the way he is now.

If I were him I would just say "if I did it, it was stupid," and brush it off. I'd expect some follow-up question like "do you apologize?" To which I would smugly say "Yes, absolutely. Now, can we talk about things adults are doing? Like unconstitutionally ordering drone attacks across the middle east and central asia that are slaughtering hundreds of innocent children?"

What a delightfully cheesy way of getting to the real issues.

And said announcement came one day after the North Carolina voting. Chain of events. NC bans gay marriage. Obama comes out as pro-gay marriage. Romney attacks "suspected" homosexual.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, CISPA, NDAA, WAR, etc...

You can't make this shit up man. It's art the way they play Americans, it really is. Like a well-tuned violin sheep are getting stroked and played on a daily.

Definitely agree. Discrete brainwashing.

I agree there are bigger issues. However, this prep school bully talk reminds me of the movie School Ties. Perhaps Mitt was similar to Matt Damon's character. lol

Mittens before his perpetual good hair days.

Anyway, Romney is a statist and hence by definition a bully.

I severely dislike Shinedown. Bully is like the rock version of that country song, "Don't laugh at me, don't call me names, don't get your pleasure from my pain..." which, I might add, probably caused more bullying than it prevented just by its unbearably cheesy nature.

Good observation. I've known they've been playing us for quite a while now, but sometimes it's not so obvious.

it'll help romney in the GOP... like maybe romney will bully china or russia.

I can't help but feel like most GOP'ers are putting on the whole Christian facade because they like to act righteous and, in reality, hate people in general. It really seems like they are all-too-ready to abandon Christian principles if it means killing or otherwise demeaning people who are different from them. At any rate, they are not Christians. I can tell you that much.

Thread title should sound more like

"Presidential candidate Mitt Romney sexually assulted gay schoolmate with scissors with the help of multiple young boys."

Except that he is the one who came up with the idea, he egged them all on, and he actually cut the hair.

can you see them pulling the strings already??? Look... its Gay People.. keep looking at them until AFTER THE elections!
+1 An oddly amusing sideshow, ain't it? Definitely keeps people from talking about substantive issues.

Interesting the timing of this story and Obama's announcement, the tinfoil hat in me says that the Dems knew about this story already and prepped up everything to fall in place.

As much as I'd love to give Romney everything he deserves, this seems pretty weak to me... I sure hope what I did while I was in high school doesn't come back to be used against me.

Not surprising from the media, but using what someone did in high school to try to paint their views as an adult is pretty weak...

There are two separate things here. 1) Interesting article and 2) relevant article.

People give the media a lot of shit but in a free market the media is like any other business looking to maximize revenue. I guarantee that this article received a lot of eyeballs and a lot of advertising $$$ for the Washington Post.

I personally found this a very interesting article to read about people with an upbringing so different from my own and get a peek at that world. I read the whole thing and I usually skim 90% of the articles I come across.

Did it change my view of Romney? No.
