The question Rand needs to consider moving forward

Please explain Rubio's presence then. Rubio rode a tea party wave to office and has since been an establishment hack, and everyone knows it and nobody cares. He's still doing well in the polls.

Did Rubio attack Ted Cruz for calling Mitch McConnell a liar? Rand did.

Ron polled the best against Obama but nobody listened to that.
We went door-to-door to Reno Republicans just before the 2012 Nevada caucus asking "Do you want to beat Obama?" and let them know Ron Paul was the candidate that would do best. Ron Paul averaged 26% of the caucus votes for precincts that we walked and 15% for the ones that we didn't make it to. So it definitely helps that he polled best against Obama and voters who heard it voted differently. Just don't expect the media to inform the voters of it.

All Rand did was just answer a question that he was asked. It's not like Rand went out of his way to attack Cruz. Was Rand just supposed to ignore the question or answer the question in a dishonest way?

I bet very few people watched the debate though--I didn't watch it either. The only thing people are going to see are highlights from the candidates.
99% of people aren't going to watch any highlights. They'll read a review of the debate if they're interested and ALL of them I've seen say Rand was one of the losers.

Well thank you for that bit of good news. From what I hear Rand has a solid ground game. Hopefully it pays off.

It would not have been dishonest for Rand to have said "You know I'm friends with both Ted Cruz and Mitch McConnell and I'm not not going to get in the middle of that. They are both intelligent men and can handle that with out me." That's not ignoring the question. Nor would it have been dishonest. (Unless he really wasn't friends with Ted Cruz and/or Mitch McConnell.) You can either choose to learn from mistakes or choose to excuse mistakes. Attacking Ted Cruz for attaching Mitch McConnell was a mistake. And I say that as someone that doesn't like Ted Cruz.

You think he stays in through Iowa?
Uh, no. The SuperPACs have money, and Rand is raising money. Remember, he has enough to fund the effort saved up. Not to mention that he will raise more between now and then.

Rand will surprise a lot of people in Iowa and New Hampshire. How far that will take him is what remains to be seen.

You think your question is not stupid?

You don't poll less then 2% and get big donations and endorsements. Politics = money

Feel free to neg rep me. I'm on board. I've had a Rand for president sign in my yard for over a year and I've had a Rand for President bumper sticker since 2012. But none of that changes the truth. Rand will not be the GOP nomination in 2016

At this point in 2011, Rick Santorum (eventual winner of IA) was polling at 5% (in a much smaller field).

It's far too early to be dismissing Rand's chances.

Whatever ...

I think more than all the issues you mentioned is the fact that he endorsed McConnell and has stuck with him. Rand might be better on the issues, but if McConnell is the main problem why trust Rand?

Devils advocate:
1. If Rand is doing so poorly in the primary, why would I expect him to win the general election? Besides, that is why Romney and McCain were chosen-electability-and look how they turned out.
2. Rand endorsed McConnell, so he can't talk. This is the response I get from talking to conservatives about Rand all the time.

Firstly, the fact that Rand Paul is getting grief for following Reagan's Commandment (thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican) just proves how susceptible Republicans are to propaganda. It's just sad. Rand Paul endorsed McConnell because he's a team player. Since when do Republicans dislike team players?

And that same source of Foxshit--which should be the brand name for the propaganda they spew--is the ones responsible for Republicans falling under the delusion that the whole nation will fall in love with whomever throws them the most red meat. Well, McCain threw them a lot of red meat. So did Bob Dole. And Gerald Ford. And Goldwater. And Dewey...

Independent voters don't buy the same bullshit the partisans buy. If the partisans of either party could ever figure that out, the other party wouldn't put anyone in the White House for generations to come.
