If this comes about it could bigger and better than woodstock. Can you imagine a million or more people showing up fpr RON PAUL plus good tunes.

They want to hold a concert for Dr. NO in San Antonio TX on Juky 4.

I want to go YEA!!!!!!! Good Guy and good tunes. Give all proceeds to DR. NO

I think it's been moved to July 14th, as that would be better for Ron, and he wants to attend, from what I understand.

I believe BandsForRonPaul is arranging the event, you can find him here or on myspace. He's one of my friends on myspace, you can find him through that.

I'd love to see millions of people show up to this. However, I'm from SA, and there's only about 2 mil in the county, but if you include large amounts of support from Dallas, Houston, Austin ect., I'd say 100,000 isn't a longshot. Hey... 100,000 people is *a lot* of people for an event that's only been in the works for about 3 weeks and is not being ran by any corporations or pre-planned with any major music artists.

Damn. I have summer finals then. I missed Ron Paul when he came to NYC because I had class, too. There is obviously a conspiracy! :D

Ron Paul has been bad for school -- I spend more time reading about him than studying. :p

My apology for nor being up to date with the July 14 date which would be better for all. It will blow away anything since. Please anybody out there please keep me informed of the biggest event of this century and last.
Up the the Rev"love"ution

If they move it to the 14th, I am there. I will be working the week of the 4th, but I'll make the trip if it is on the 14th.

I'll Drive From Pennsylania

I'll drive to San Antonia from Pennsylvania.

I like this slogan I heard on that myspace page...

"Liberty has two first names....Ron Paul.

Hey all!

Hey just got referred to this thread. Glad to see some enthusiasm! Ok, where to begin.. The whole concept for the first Concert was presented to me by some of the Campaign heads for Ron Paul here in Texas. It would be a fundraiser. Although it seems to be more difficult than they thought scheduling Ron Paul. Of course he's very busy these days running all over appearing in so many TV interviews, Radio Interviews, etc.
I haven't heard how to proceed on that just yet, and actually I'd rather do these kinds of things outside of the main campaign and will be most likely proceeding on my own soon to get something off the ground started, and hopefully help Event planners, and Promoters in other cities get the same things going in their towns accross he nation, just like the Ron Paul meetups.
Bands4RonPaul needed to grow before we could garner enough attention to be approached by more bands, and we're almost at that point. Now with over 1000 members, and over 100 of them I have confirmed are definatly Ron Paul supporters. The many other famous bands who join us, but don't communicate one way or another will eventually come around we believe as they actually take notice, just like people everywhere are taking notice of Ron Paul. Also many of our smaller bands make contact with the larger bands from time to time and the buzz will spread, and when we get some shows going that draw some media attention, that will help too.
As for the 14th of July. Hopefully Ill hear something on whether they are serious about planning that or not. If I dont hear something substantial soon, Ill go more full swing into the planning on my own, and try to have something around that same time ready. Also bands4ronpaul really has alot of great bands up around PA and NY. So something planned up there would be alot easier to get going sooner. Ill get back here within the next few days and comment again on this.
Meanwhile if y ou haven't yet. Come join us on www.myspace.com/bands4ronpaul
Thanks!

Hello Bands4RonPaul and welcome to the forums!

My wife has surgery on the 10th but if she can't make it then I'll definitely be there with some others. I will be spreading the word in the meantime. :)

I wish I could be there. I'm in Sweden at the moment. One band you've got to get: Poker Face!

hmmm...

Some thoughts... please don't misconstrue this as pointless pessimism, I sincerely mean to be constructive, but two things: First, and I say this as an active musician, from a family of musicians, who's also worked in record stores for over ten years, and booked shows too... the only well known name on that list of "bands that support Ron Paul," is Jimmy Vaughn. I know, I know... there's more than likely a slew of great bands on that list that people haven't heard of yet. I'm not making a claim as to whether the bands are good or bad, I'm just stating what I believe to be this fact: none of the bands on that list, other than J. Vaughn, will draw well, if at all, the out of town bands in particular. The cruel truth is, it doesn't matter if they're good, if no one's heard of them, who will care? I would of course, love to be proved wrong. A million people?? You'll need some seriously major players to pull that off. I'd advise to aim ridiculously high, and then work your way down.
Second, you want to pull this off by July 14th? No. Way. At. All. Again, I'm only trying to help here. For that level of an event, the organization needed, from top to bottom would put it somewhere in the timeframe of Spring 2008, maybe. You'll need a legit promoter or promotion company, a first class sound reinforcement company, or in-house p.a.. If you're going to go "festival style," you might need festival permits, alcohol licenses, security, sound engineers, production mangagers, stage hands, clean up crew, outhouses, etc. etc. This is a maaaaaasssive undertaking that would also greatly benefit from a ton of sponsoring. If this is supposed to be a benefit show, you will be lucky to even make back the money you spent on setting all of this up unless you charge a crazy entrance fee, at which point, no one will want to go and the whole "benefit," will be lost. Intimidating stuff indeed.

Otherwise, as just a suggestion, what I see as a more practical alternative would be to simply have an "all day" musical event in your city. Find a decent sized venue, anything from 150 to 1000 capacity venue would be fine, and book whatever good, solid local bands you can get to fill the bill. Any national bands/performers, put on the end as headliners. Do it on a saturday, start it around noon, give local bands no more than 45 minute sets (trust me), make it a bbq or something, have it end around midnight. Involve some other aspects like, t-shirt giveaways, Ron Paul sign making contest, pay-per-entry pie eating contest, etc.,.. I dunno, whatever you can think of. If it's at a bar/venue, try and get beer/booze vendors involved to get crazy beer deals, PBR is good for this. Again, July 14th? You'd have to start working on this yesterday, and not rest until the day of the event. It always always seems easier until you get bogged down with the details. Attention to detail is absolutely KEY. I would think something in September or October would be much much easier to manage, though it will still be a bear of a job. Plus, the further you push it back, the more time you have to promote it. Plus, most venues of this size will in all likelihood, already be booked. If the above style event still seems like a hassle, then go even smaller.

Now, if this first "smaller," event goes well. Then plan another, perhaps even bigger one sometime down the road, with bigger bands. Decent, national touring bands that are likely to draw well are most likely booked 3 to 5 months in advance, so keep that time frame in mind.

Whew! Ok, again I can't stress enough that this is all simply my take on the situation, and is in no way an attempt to discourage you. Do with it what you will. :)

Well, I'm pretty sure Green Day is anti-bush, and therefore anti Neocon. I would imagine that Rage Against the Machine would also be in favor of Ron Paul. Just a thought. Could you imagine the type of exposure Rage would bring now that they are reunited?

This sounds HOT. It would be great for the apathetic rockers to get involved.

Has anyone approached Willie Nelson yet on this? I know this is a dream... but how about the Dixie Chicks?

Listing all the really big bands is probably just dreaming at this stage, but I was listening to System of a Down today, and realized how potentially perfect they could be for matching a huge chunk of Paul's message (individual liberty, respect for foreign nations' sovereignty, anti-war, anti-drug war, et cetera). At least a group to keep in mind for later down the road. They could probably attract a huge chunk of independents/democrats if they were willing to get on board.

[edit]Nevermind, it appears they're not actively touring or being available as a unified band currently. Bummer.[/edit]

Rush - Neil Peart. so what if they're Canadian. i'd love to see Green Day.... i thought Billy Joe had some lib in him. Rage would be cool, as would 311. wish i could help out with a Seattle band, but i think they're primarily Nader folks - especially Pearl Jam. PJ would throw a killer RP concert
