A bomb nearly killed Vice President @KamalaHarris on January 6, 2021, said the FBI. But now the former FBI official who oversaw the investigation said it couldn't have. In fact, the "bomb" appears to have been a hoax created by and covered up by the FBI and the Secret Service.

FBI And Secret Service Are Covering Up Their Role In Alleged January 6 “Pipe Bomb” Plot, New Evidence Suggests

Video footage shows multiple agencies may have lied about the alleged explosive devices and mishandled their investigations

by @shellenberger and @galexybrane

It should have been a national scandal. On January 6, 2021, the day of the Capitol riot, a bomb nearly exploded at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters in Washington, D.C., according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Had it gone off, it could have killed Vice President Kamala Harris, who drove by the alleged bomb and was in the DNC headquarters when the bomb was discovered.

“Although these bombs did not detonate,” said the FBI earlier this year, “it is important to remember the suspect walked along residential and commercial areas in Capitol Hill just blocks from the U.S. Capitol with viable pipe bombs that could have seriously injured or killed innocent bystanders.” Among those innocent bystanders was the Vice President.

But the incident never became a national scandal. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times on January 17, 2021, Harris never mentioned the potential assassination attempt. In fact, Harris’s near-death experience was unknown until the Department of Justice revealed it in a court filing in November 2021. The government had previously incorrectly stated that Harris was in the US Capitol.

And the US House of Representatives’ official January 6 Committee investigation’s 841-page report only briefly mentions the pipe bombs in an appendix. The pipe bombs, which were initially key to the narrative that the Capitol riot was a premeditated act of domestic terrorism, are omitted from the report’s detailed analysis and timeline.

A video released by Rep. Thomas Massie and first reported on by Revolver News [see this post - OB] and The Blaze [see this post - OB] shows that a passerby with a backpack alerted Capitol Police officers sitting in their cars outside the DNC that there was a pipe bomb nearby. Congressional staffers told Blaze reporter Steve Baker that a Capitol Police plainclothes officer found the DNC pipe bomb. In the video, Capitol Police do not react with alarm, and they let people, including children, pass just a few feet from the pipe bomb as though it is not dangerous. The evidence suggests that the Capitol Police officers knew the bomb was not a threat.

The FBI appears to have taken the explosive devices seriously. The FBI offered a $500,000 reward for help in finding the person who left the bomb. The FBI’s Washington Field Office Director, Steven D’Antuono, recorded a video urging the public to report suspicious individuals to the FBI. The FBI says that its lab determined that the devices, both pipe bombs with 60-minute kitchen timers, were “viable.”

But a National Explosives Task Force (NETF) Quick Look Report, leaked to CBS News, suggested that the bombs could not have been detonated remotely from a secondary device like a cell phone. “All of it suggests that if they had been set, they were designed to go off on January 5th,” reported CBS News investigative correspondent Catherin Herridge. This leaked report calls into question the accepted pipe bomb timeline.

What’s more, Kyle Seraphin, a former FBI agent who worked on the investigation, said the explosive devices were inoperable. Technicians from the Joint Program Office for Countering IEDs, Seraphin stated, told him the devices lacked the necessary assembly to work. And even D’Antuono admitted to Rep. Thomas Massie, who participated in the questioning of D’Antuono before the House Judiciary, that the bombs wouldn’t have worked.

Massie: Do you think it was technically possible for a kitchen timer –

D'Antuono: No, no.

Massie: — that has 1-hour duration —

D'Antuono: No.

Massie: — to detonate a bomb 17 hours later?

D'Antuono: No, I don't. And I saw the same kitchen timer as you. I agree. I don't know when they were supposed to go off. Maybe they weren't supposed to go off. We can't — we don't know. We honestly don't know…

FBI agent turned whistleblower Steve Friend told Public, “Without compromising sources, I’ve heard there are components of this that are part of the Department of Homeland Security’s training for bombs.”

Garret O’Boyle, another FBI whistleblower who was an Assistant Weapons of Mass Destruction Coordinator, told Public that the FBI’s use of the term “viable” may be suspect. “What do they mean by ‘viable’? Simply that the components work, like the timer and what not? They are very lawyerly with their words,” O’Boyle said. “In some of their manufactured terrorism cases they have provided what the subject thought was a ‘viable’ explosive device, but in actuality wasn't since the explosive component isn't built into the ‘bomb.’”

The FBI released CCTV videos and photos of the suspect holding a cell phone and possibly texting. The phone would allow the FBI to find the user based on the time and location. However, the data from the phone company that could have identified the suspected bomber was mysteriously corrupted.

“There's some data that was corrupted by one of the providers,” D’Antuono said. “Not purposely by them, right. It just — unusual circumstance that we have corrupt data from one of the providers… it wasn't purposely corrupted. I don't want any conspiracy theories…”

The FBI claims that the pipe bomb was planted at the DNC on the night of January 5, 2021. Yet given Harris’ presence at the DNC, it is very likely that the Secret Service would have conducted a security sweep, possibly with a bomb-sniffing dog, upon her arrival on January 6, when the bomb was supposedly already on the premises.

An independent security analyst who has worked for senior elected officials, including on Capitol Hill, wrote a Comprehensive Threat Analysis of the alleged pipe bombs, which Public obtained.

Interviewed by Zoom, the expert, who asked that their name not be used, said, “Something had to have happened to not to have found the bomb, or it wasn’t there on the night of the 5th. Had they conducted a regular security sweep, they 100% would have found the bomb. It’s in plain sight. You’d have to be blind not to find it. And if you had a dog? Give me a break.”

PkojIGf.jpg

The expert found it highly implausible that the Secret Service did not do a sweep. “I can’t believe the Secret Service would put Vice President some place and not do a security sweep. It’s hard to explain how bad that is.”

On January 31, 2022, CNN reported, “A law enforcement source familiar with the event told CNN that the US Secret Service, which was responsible for Harris’ protection that day, swept the interior of the building, the driveway, parking deck and entrances and exits prior to her arrival.”

The expert said the FBI’s behavior was inconsistent with standard security procedures. “If it’s true a bomb was planted at the DNC on the night of January 5, the FBI would have had many questions. Was Harris the target of an attack? Why was the pipe bomb not found by Secret Service agents during its security sweep? … One would think the FBI would have wanted to conduct a full-blown investigation…”

FBI didn’t even try to find the individual who reported the DNC bomb, even though D’Antuono admitted the person would be a prime suspect.

Massie: But the individual in a hoodie going up to two police cars after he's passed by that bench, did your investigation review this video?

D'Antuono: I'm not aware of the video you're talking about, sir. I'm not.

Massie: If you had seen that video, would you be interested in speaking to that person —

D'Antuono: Absolutely.

Massie: — who seems to have discovered that second bomb?

D'Antuono: In any investigation, whoever discovers the device is somebody you need to talk to, right, because they could be the one that planted the device in the first place. You know, so that's just investigation 101. So, but I am not aware of that video. I'm not aware of that person.

Either way, it should have been a scandal. There was either a catastrophic security failure that resulted in the near-death of the Vice President, which is scandalous in its own right and even more so considering that there was no investigation of it, or the bombs were not real or “viable.” In that case, the FBI, the Capitol Police, the Secret Service, and senior government officials, including perhaps even Vice President Harris, have lied to the American people.

The Secret Service and the Capitol Police did not respond to our request for comment. An FBI spokesperson declined to comment and directed Public to the agency’s pipe bomb webpage and most recent statement.

Even D’Antuono has admitted that the case is mysterious to him, even though it was his office that investigated the pipe bombs. “It just is a lot of coincidences happen [sic] all the time. There's a lot of unanswered questions,” he said. “There really are."

J6 pipe bomb [thread]

On 6/7/23 the House Judiciary Committee interviewed Steven D’Antuono, former FBI Assistant Director in Charge of the DC field office.

Most of the interview covered topics such as the warrant served at Mar a Lago, but I asked questions about the J6 pipe bombs.

If you are just becoming familiar with the rapidly collapsing narrative of the J6 pipe bombs, I suggest reading @DarrenJBeattie’s comprehensive and insightful coverage of this topic [see this post - OB].

The purpose of this thread is to post the original transcript of my interview with the FBI ADIC.

In addition to reading this transcript, you might want to watch my questioning of the ATF director and the FBI director. I also suggest watching the video of the discovery of the DNC pipe bomb.

I’ll post those three videos at the end of this thread.

Mr. D’Antuono was in charge of the Washington DC FBI office from 2019 (just before J6 2021) until November of 2022. He was in charge of the agents who were conducting the J6 pipe bomb investigation. Previously he was the Special Agent in Charge of the FBI office in Michigan.

A one hour kitchen timer on a bomb allegedly placed 17 hours earlier. How could that be operable?

Could the detonator even function?

Did it contain explosives?

Remarkable timing of discovery.

Here I asked about the video my staff and I found regarding the discovery of the second pipe bomb.

Would the people who discovered the bombs be suspects?

Do we have all of the video at the best resolution?

Did the FBI release false or incomplete information?

Transcribed interviews like this are not always released to the public. I want to thank Chairman Jordan and his staff for releasing this transcript.

Here’s my questioning of the ATF director about these pipe bombs:

Rep. Massie Grills ATF Director Over Jan. 6 Pipe Bomb Investigation: "I'm Not Accepting That Answer"

{RepThomasMassie | 05 May 2023}

Unbelievable: ATF director refuses to say whether the Jan 6 pipe bombs were operable and how they were discovered. Also doesn’t know the location of the firearms used in the Vegas shooting and whether any were machine guns instead of rifles with bumpstocks.

Here’s my questioning of FBI Director Wray about the pipe bombs:

I’m publicly releasing footage about the discovery of the pipe bomb at the DNC on 1/6. After 900 days, why won’t FBI Director Wray answer congressional questions about the case? Did they even interview the person who appears to have found the bomb?

Bomb Sniffing Dog Performed Vehicle Search Outside DNC Hours Before 'Pipe Bomb' was Discovered
Surveillance video shows a trained canine performed a check of a vehicle in front of the Democratic National Committee on the morning of Jan 6. How did the dog and his handler miss the pipe bomb?

An individual who appeared to be part of a security team guarding the Democratic National Committee headquarters used a canine to conduct a search of a small sport utility vehicle in front of the building more than three hours before a plain-clothed Capitol Police officer discovered an alleged pipe bomb just a few feet away on January 6.

Grainy footage recently obtained by "Declassified with Julie Kelly” from Committee on House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight Chairman Barry Loudermilk adds yet another question to the unsolved mystery of the so-called January 6 pipe bomber. The FBI claims the suspect planted the devices between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on January 5 near both the DNC and Republican National Committee headquarters. (A woman allegedly doing her laundry found a device near the RNC around 12:40 p.m. on January 6.)

But despite the FBI’s ongoing investigation and a $500,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator, no one has been identified or charged.

Video Raises More Troubling Questions

At roughly 9:44 a.m. on January 6, an unidentified SUV pulled into the driveway of the DNC building.

The vehicle sat idle for approximately five minutes; at 9:49 a.m., a dog that appears to be a breed of shepherd and his handler approached the driver’s side of the vehicle. The handler walked to the back of the vehicle and pressed the unlock button on the rear liftgate; it slowly opened. The dog used his front legs to partially enter the back of the vehicle for a several seconds then exited. His handler proceeded to the back of the passenger side of the vehicle, opened the door slightly, and allowed the dog to sniff for a few seconds.

The guard then walked to the front of the vehicle to complete a perimeter search. As another security guard moved a traffic cone in front of the garage door and permitted the vehicle to enter the DNC building, the canine and his handler walked in the direction of two exterior benches where the alleged explosive device was discovered at 1:07 p.m., which is shown on the right. (Video of the canine and handler walking in front of the benches is not available.)

Then-Senator Kamala Harris and her Secret Service detail, which included officers with the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, arrived at the DNC at 11:25 a.m. on January 6. Harris has never explained why she, as the incoming vice president and sitting U.S. Senator involved in the certification proceedings that day, left the Capitol following a briefing of the Senate Intelligence Committee at 10:00 a.m. and went to the DNC a few blocks away.

It is unclear why Secret Service apparently did not conduct a sweep of the premises before her arrival.

In fact, video retrieved from the same security camera published last month by Darren Beattie at Revolver News [see this post - OB] showed law enforcement’s lackadaisical response to the discovery of the alleged pipe bomb. Despite the presence of the incoming vice president and her staff as well as the presence of children and passersby outside, officers with the Secret Service, MPD, and Capitol Police seemed unconcerned with the threat that could have taken the life of the first woman elected vice president and several others.

Her arrival at the DNC that morning also means multiple officers and agents did not discover the device sitting in plain view for nearly two hours. Harris is seen on a separate video camera exiting the building around 1:17 p.m.

The occupant or occupants of the vehicle are unknown; other cars that entered the garage before this vehicle that morning were not subjected to the same search.

According to the FBI’s bulletin about the pipe bomber, the devices contained “homemade black powder.” Bomb-sniffing dogs are trained to detect numerous types of chemicals associated with explosive devices including black smokeless powders. Top FBI officials insisted the pipe bombs found at the RNC and DNC were legit. “These pipe bombs were viable devices that could have been detonated, resulting in serious injury or death,” FBI Washington Field Office Assistant Director in Charge Steven D’Antuono said during a video message in March 2021.

He later told Congress his agents failed to find the pipe bomber.
