The Hill: Ron Paul SHOULD run as a Third Party candidate...

Budowsky's latest post:

The truth is that most Democrats I know would be thrilled if Obama did not run, and very few Republicans believe
Romney stands for anything, he is the worst weather
vane and shape shifter. The grassroots of both parties
are going to be trapped with nominees they do not
believe in. It is a bizarre situation, which is why I made
this suggestion about Ron running as a third party.

We basically have two parties dominated by lobbyists,
big donors and insiders. Wall Street cheers the latest
giant bailout. Romney and Obama are racing to see
who can raise the most money and be most dominated
by lobbyists and special interests. The whole situation
is ridiculous, in both parties.

The media who says he should run as a third party want to split the Republican vote so Obama can win.

What I think they're missing is that Ron Paul supporters don't necessarily vote Republican. I have my doubts about how much of the vote it would shave off the GOP nominee and I think it could shave just as many off Obama, if not more. I know former Obama supporters if faced with an Obama vs Cain vs Ron Paul election, they would vote Ron Paul. I think there would be equal damage to both parties, yet the damage would be minimized thanks to the media and the strict 2-party system.

He would not win as 3rd party under normal circumstances, no matter how much he was liked. That said, you can never rule out the fluke factor. A dollar collapse 1 month before an election for example... or the Republican candidate's dead skeleton surfaces weeks before the election and damage control is impossible. Only the fluke factor could cause a 3rd party to win.

I think focusing on it is a bad idea, we should focus on taking over the Republican Party with Ron Paul and after Ron Paul. If they fail to elect Ron Paul, the currency collapse will happen and the people will still be looking for a fresh viewpoint that supports liberty & truth. That's when RP's message could best be heard by the people. So don't give up, I think supporters should be in this for the long haul. We should craft our candidates in the image of Ron Paul, candidates who carry his message and receive the stalwart support of his solid and unwavering 12% base, which will slowly grow.

I think it would be a remarkable thing to see Ron Paul signs waving at every election from 2012 forward, whether Ron Paul is there or not. He is a man, but his message transcends just the person. It's a policy that we ultimately stand behind and he's the embodiment of that policy. Whether Ron Paul is in politics or not, that policy remains as true as ever.

Just my thought on this, and for now, let's get RP voted GOP nominee! :D

If you think winning the GOP nomination is an uphill battle, you don't want to see how steep the 3rd party hill is...

Why? Paul is in the right party for what he stands for, everyone else is in the wrong party.

There's a video interview around here somewhere where Ron said the dollar will collapse by next summer (2012).

Reagan had a lot of democrats cross over and vote for him against George H.W. Bush in 1980?

Pretty sure, yes. "Reagan Democrats" is the stuff of legend, and many people sem to think that's the genesis of the neoconservative takeover of the Republican Party.

Reagan had a lot of democrats cross over and vote for him against George H.W. Bush in 1980?
Actually Reagan democrats first appeared in the south carolina primary in 1976. I remember the news reports on how badly Reagan blew Ford away there and the talk
about thousands of democrats crossing over to vote for Reagan which was pretty much unheard of in the south in those days.

In some ways, perhaps. But it's sure also a big stumbling block with 'team player above all' Republicans. Which is why they're making a big deal of it in places like Faux.

Why is this? It isn't baseball or hockey? It makes me insane that GOP politics has nothing to do with the best conservative candidate. Are these neocons that blocked him out still running the party today? I wonder how the convention will play out?

All this third party talk reminds me of the press conference RP gave before the last election where he was pleading with people to vote third party in an attempt to disturb the two party system. It was brilliant, I can't find the video now, but he had most of the third party candidates there with him (bob barr never showed I think) and you can hear it in his voice, his hands were shaking, as he begged voters to vote third party, he keeps taking his glasses on and off... That was an interesting election for USA; I wonder what this one will be like! ;)

We want everyone to think he will run as 3rd party

I'm sick of the media asking RP if he will run for a 3rd party and I have a rebuttal that will stop them in their tracks. First, I'm using game theory for this rebuttal. The game is who should a republican vote for in the primary? As we all know, Obama will be the democrat's choice; so who will be the republican choice. Well I would have to say "Anyone but Obama". So the least favorite outcome of a republican is Obama winning. That was easy enough, but who should they pick to represent them. Well, I would say Dr.Know but this isn't my choice. We will say they think Mr. Silky Hair is the best choice. So Mr. Silky Hair wins and now RP can make a choice to run as a thrid option against the stats quo and let's say Obama wins because Silky Hair and RP split the vote. Oh no, what republicans didn't want happening happened. So what is the best choice for republicans; Ron Paul because he is the only candidate that can possible run as a thrid party. With this is mind, all right wingers should vote for RP just in fear that if he doesn't win the nomination RP will run as a 3rd party and Obama will win. Please tell me what you think. note: I think RP will win, this is just an argument against the 3rd party bid.
