The Hill: Ron Paul SHOULD run as a Third Party candidate...

3rd party run is awfully short-sighted considering the direction he is pushing the GOP. Not only that but he would be constantly ignored and his legacy diminished IMO.

There is now an article on Drudge that says Ron does not rule it out.

: )

I would like to see RP get the GOP nod of approval - my guess is he won't... What I want most is to have his name on the ballot no matter how that happens. Let people have a choice to vote for him, without that choice I don't know if I will even waste my time voting and writing his name in again like I did last time?

Right now I do the work to get him to be the GOP nominee and will be a district and precinct delegate for my state. If he loses I am all for a 3rd party run, and a name on the ballot to vote for. I expect to get a bunch of -reps for my opinion so hit me with them..

They mention many legit reason why he should run third party with out peeping a word of the negative side of a third party run.

The Republican party will never let Ron be their nominee, even if he gathers enough votes to win the nomination. I think Ron needs to run as a 3rd party candidate. It will spark that level of excitement from 2007-08 that this campaign has been lacking.

First things first. Ron needs to create as much havoc in the Republican primaries as possible and continue his rise in the polls. He may even get the nomination in doing so.

No negative rep here. Short of the Republican nomination, I am fairly confident you will get your wish, for a whole bunch of reasons.

A second party run (the term 3rd party is wrong when there is only one party that supports the status quo of big government and wars) would continue to get the message of liberty out there for the future. This is bigger than a presidential race. If 08 run did not happen how many people would not be exposed to the ideas of freedom? Push on no matter what.

The GOP does not nominate him then the status quo wins and the average people of USA will lose.

I think he should focus on getting the GOP nomination, because if he drops out of the GOP race now, to run third party, he's guaranteed not to win the general election. Sorry, but a third party is just not gonna win. If he doesn't get the GOP nomination, I don't care if he runs third party. He's not gonna win, so it'll be a colossal waste of time and money, but if that's what he wants to do, then more power to him.

I say he should form a new third party that uses the principles that many of the third party candidates ran on in 2008.

An early end to the Iraq war, and an end to threats of war against other countries including Iran and Russia.

The safeguarding of privacy and civil liberties, including a call for the repeal of the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, and FISA legislation

No increase in the National Debt

A "thorough investigation, evaluation and audit of the Federal Reserve System."

A united third party run on the presidency and the congress. A super-charged tea party with support from the left, right, and center.

Dr Paul should just leave it as a very unlikely but possible situation. A situation made more possible by the media asking him(which makes voters want it) and worsening U.S. economic and social situation. It's a win-win on this.

I disagree. A Paul 3rd Party run will keep a RINO out of the White House. If a RINO wins the White House then Rand is out for a generation. Eight years MINIMUM, possibly 16 years.

The media is trying to tell us what to do. Let's focus on getting him nominated for the GOP candidate.

Ron Paul will not go third party because HE IS GOING TO WIN THE NOMINATION!

BINGO.

They are trying to get us off-track and also to make the Republican Party stalwarts think less of Ron Paul.

Why has this thread run to four pages when the correct answers are all on the first page?

Forget the independent run talk. We need to get this man this nomination, and we need to make the Republican Party safe for conservatism again. And that's not just what we need and what Ron Paul needs, that what the United States of America and all of the people in it need too.

If you can't get enough existing Republicans on board to suit you, make more--out of independents and disgusted Democrats. It's so easy these days, it's ridiculous. Get off this board and go to it! We're running out of time!

Third party/independent run my ass. I don't want to have to collect all those damned signatures. Sounds real good in theory, but for those of us who have been libertarian a while, we're sick of trying to get people on ballots. Why the hell don't we just do this the easy way and concentrate on getting the man the nomination?

the 3rd party threat helps in the battle to win the nomination

In some ways, perhaps. But it's sure also a big stumbling block with 'team player above all' Republicans. Which is why they're making a big deal of it in places like Faux.

I heard Medved say one day that the reason he doesn't like Ron Paul is because he didn't endorse McCain last time around, and that his supporters won't vote for the GOP candidate THIS time around.

Wah.

The hatred is already baked in.

That's a correct statement. We won't.
