THE DEFINITIVE THREAD Breaking-Santorum calls news conference for 2:00 Is he dropping?

You can bank on Santorum using his bound delegates to support Romney. UNLESS, they all quit and alternate delegates take over.

Santorum can not make his delegates do anything. If he officially drops out of the race, his delegates become unbound, and they can vote for whomever they want. Sure, he can ask that they vote for Romney, but if we've been doing this right, there will be Paul supporters who are acting as Santorum delegates-- and they'd never go to Romney.

Absolute clusterf*ck going forward. But there is a huge vacuum Ron paul could fill... We have to wait to see.

No no, he isn't officially dropping out. He is 'suspending' his campaign. That means he could still control his bound delegates.

The silver lining here is that at the RNC Paul's contingency could be larger than if Santorum had stayed in the race, which will give our side more effectiveness when it comes to influencing the platform and possibly the VP nomination.

Santorum wont endorse Paul because Paul makes him look like a complete fool during the debates.. oh and the TX debate.. wonder about that

hm. I wonder too. Gingrich and Paul is silly from Ron's point of view, kinda, although it is free media time. But more likely the network will have something to say about it. Wonder if PBS still wants to do a debate.

-START POSTING ON SANTORUM FRIENDLY FACEBOOK PAGES (BOTH OF THEM) AND TRY TO GET HIS SUPPORTERS.

-STOP TALKING GET MOVING.

As I stated, IF he OFFICIALLY drops out his delegates become unbound and can vote for who ever they want. If he does not drop out he can not force his delegates to vote for Romney on the first ballot. Their votes are bound for Santorum on the first ballot.

Well now we work double time and hope that a lot of those Santorum delegates are either very anti-Romney or have been Paul delegates all along. We'll see what happens in Tampa.

This makes it VERY unlikely that there is anything to "see" in Tampa. Not only does this give Romney virtually a guarantee of the rest of the states and all the bound delegates that come with it, but even if 10% of Santorums delegates go to Romney (and they will) that is 25 or so closer that Romney is to 1144. But again...with Romney ALREADY so close to locking it up even if Santorum had stayed, it will likely not come down to unbound anyway.

This DOES get Ron Paul some more delegates, but from Santourm's now unbound (though right now, they are still bound to him since he is suspending, not officially dropping out.) and the rest of the way since it will likely help him pick up enough votes to reach the minimum thresholds for delegates. But that is going to be more for power at the convention..bot for the nomination. It would have required a miracle 2 hours ago. But now it is going to require the mother of all miracles. Without something happening to Romney, it is over.
