THE DEFINITIVE THREAD Breaking-Santorum calls news conference for 2:00 Is he dropping?

You can bank on Santorum using his bound delegates to support Romney. UNLESS, they all quit and alternate delegates take over.

More than likely won't need to. Unless Paul does something significant to change the course of the race, Romney will win most if not all of the remaining delegates.

Does this mean he can't get anymore delegates than what he has now?

no. I'm pretty sure Ron got more after he suspended last time. Mind you, that was US, and I don't know that Santa has that kind of supporter thinking he will carry the fight even if they can give it to him.

No this isn't good news, but stop with the "it's over" crap... Romney does not have 1,144 yet, and we fight on as long as Dr. Paul is.

Really. STFU. No one knows what will happen. Will the doom and gloomers kindly go to hot topics, because the rest of us have work to do.

The In-It-T-Win-It Money Bomb on April 15th now becomes absolutely HUGE to show that Ron Paul Supporters are re-energized and ready to take on Romney.

The 2 Million Dollar Goal must now be just the floor. Spread the word NOW!!!! Ron has a fighting chance IF HE HAS THE RESOURCES TO COMPETE!!!

This ^

Dr Paul said it's like a track race, you stay the distance because others may stumble. Now Santorum is withdrawing it's only Romney ahead that is left to stumble.

Not that I disagree with the general strategy, but if something happened, to Romney, the media would be telling us that only Gingrich is left, or Santorum would magically reappear.

Well, our supporters will be telling all the Santorum people at the caucus he dropped out and Santorum said to go home and watch his new youtube channel =)

This is the time where Ron Paul needs to stand up and do something big. If the campaign doesn't do everything they can to capitalize on this... i just don't know anymore. Do something bold already.

Please explain to us why this is a good thing for us.

I didn't say it was good, except there is a chance that Santa's folks who held out this long REALLY are more conservative than Romney, in which case they should come to Ron. Ron has growing crowds everywhere he goes. Who knows, with Santa dropping out, the media may actually notice? In which case Ron's chances for BOUND delegates from CA and TX go up, not to mention PA where Ron got 16% even in 2008, but Santa was looked at as the son of the state, having represented it, while Ron just grew up there. So, it is a mixed bag. For TONIGHT in St Charles it isn't good though, because it will completely turn upside down our alliance assumptions. All we can do is the best we can.

Santorum wont endorse Paul because Paul makes him look like a complete fool during the debates.. oh and the TX debate.. wonder about that

For all the 3rd party advocates - now if the time for Paul to do it, if he plans on doing so. Personally, I do not support a third party run, but this is his window to do so.

It's not necessarily a good thing, but it's also not the apocalypse for Ron Paul's campaign. Santorum's delegates are STILL bound to him and will be until he officially drops out of the race (not just suspends his campaign). Once they are unbound, they can't be forced to vote for anyone, and many of them will be Paul delegates who were working undercover. Obviously, there are also a lot of delegates who will switch to Romney, perhaps enough to send him over the edge. But the race is only halfway over and now there's an entirely different dynamic at work. Santorum energized supporters that otherwise wouldn't have voted at all. Hardcore Frothy supporters aren't going to all of a sudden go vote for someone their candidate just recently described as the worst possible Republican choice. They're just going to stay home. We need to KEEP WORKING. No one knows who the national delegates really support until we get to Tampa, so let's make the best of the extra space in the race now and keep getting those delegates.

Exactly proves why santorum has no principles.. To spend the whole election bashing Romney only to turn and endorse him is digusting.

Brokered will not happen now.

I wouldn't start with that assumption. Remember the polls early on? They didn't flow to Romney but to everyone but. Now we will see if they are just exhausted, and ready to be worn down into voting for Romney, or if they are really ready to take a stand on principles and vote for Ron.

Eventually it was going to come down to this, and while the timing is as bad as it could be given lost opportunities for momentum and 'media inevitability' setting in, we need to gear up for this fight.

If you ask me it was the new "war on women" mantra from the left that was affective in getting the GOP establishment to urge him to drop out for the damage he was doing with the women vote.

Wolf Blitzer just now: "for all practical purposes the general election campaign begins now with Mitt Romney and Barack Obama"

I don't know, I imagine many Santorum supporters just won't show up, but ours still will.
