THE DEFINITIVE THREAD Breaking-Santorum calls news conference for 2:00 Is he dropping?

Come on guys, let's get the campaign some money so they can purchase ad time. Peter Thiel we can use you now.

Ron Paul has to go to the Libertarian Party now to have any chance of winning and most importantly, get into a national debate between Republican and Democrat.

Not good at all, coming at the time when they're pushing the "coalesce around Romney" meme, clearly worried about a brokered convention if they didn't...

If there was any doubt that Santorum just stayed in as a puppet to take away Paul votes, I think you've got your answer for him to choose now to drop out, at the most opportunistic time possible to help Romney....

CNN mentioned that Romney had a ton of ads coming out about Santorum's staggering loss in PA in his failed senate bid but postponed them until Santorum's daughter was discharged from the hospital.

Of course Santorum is going to say he wants to spend more time with his family, and his child; but he could have decided that months ago. At this point Santorum is just worried about the PA. embarrassment, IMO

Wonder what position Romney will offer him in his cabinet?

Well if he gets to make one that is.

His delegates should become unbound, right? Meaning if Ron Paul supporters became Santorum delegates they can now vote for Ron Paul?

Wtf does this kill the hope of a brokered convention?

Santorum endorses Romney???? Or by some miracle, he'll endorse Paul?

Santorum suspends campaign***** (strategy going forward)

http://nbcpolitics.msnbc.msn.com/_n...antorum-to-suspend-presidential-campaign?lite

NBC News has confirmed that Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum will suspend his campaign for the nomination. The announcement, expected shortly at an event in Gettysburg, Pa., follows a recent hospitalization for his 3-year-old daughter who suffers from the chromosomal defect Trisomy 18.
A senior source in the Mitt Romney camp confirms to NBC News that the front-runner received a call from Santorum today.
Santorum’s decision to suspend his campaign will effectively stifle the opposition to Romney from within the GOP; former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Rep. Ron Paul remain active candidates, though neither of them have a plausible path to winning the 1,144 delegates needed to secure the nomination.

How does this affect grassroots and Caucus strategy????? Input???

This might not be the disaster you all think it is. Ron could now do rather well. He could build on the 20% in Pa last time and actually rise to challenge Romney.

Well now we work double time and hope that a lot of those Santorum delegates are either very anti-Romney or have been Paul delegates all along. We'll see what happens in Tampa.

What are the odds of this happening hours before our huge caucus in St. Charles county? The State GOP is going to try and get their chairman elected.

This should be an interesting night.

The last time around Santorum had the most people followed by Paul followed by Romney. It was something pretty close
