The Convention

She got it. I'm sick to my stomach. Schiff got 44??? You have got to be kidding me.

Is there any way to find out who all the Schiff turn coats are? Like contact info?

So what? Simmons is out, his votes would mostly go to Schiff if his fans knew about Schiff. Let's face it, out of mcMahon and Simmons, he is the most conservative one.

The primary is effectively over.

Prove me wrong, but once the party officially endorses someone, that's game over in my mind.

I'm confused. On CT-N they said only Simmons can force a primary. Can Schiff force a primary without the necessary amount of delegates? Is this what a petition is for?

Schiff can force a primary in August if he gets 14,000 valid petition signatures by June 8th. Simmons can force a primary for free if he wants.

McMahon wins GOP convention endorsement for U.S. Senate. Unclear whether Simmons will primary.

Self-proclaimed political outsider Linda McMahon stunned former 2nd District Congressman Robert Simmons on the first ballot, winning the Republican State Convention's endorsement for U.S. Senate late tonight.

Greenwich economist Peter Schiff, considered a long-shot, fell well short of winning 15 percent of the delegate vote, the minimum threshold needed to qualify for a primary. But Schiff said that he would take advantage of Connecticut's open primary law and petition his way onto the Aug. 10 primary ballot nonetheless.

The official tally, announced just before 11:10 p.m., had McMahon outpolling Simmons 737-632, with 44 votes for Schiff.

It was not clear immediately whether Simmons, who still held more than 44.5 percent of the delegate vote, would engage in a primary for the GOP nomination.

OK thanks
I know you shouldn't count your chickens before they hatch, but if/when Peter forces a primary, it is my opinion that he needs a no holds barred campaign to expose McMahon, to explain our fiscal emergency, and to express his libertarian positions.

Does anyone think Rand would have made it through a convention like this without Grayson winning? All this means is the party hacks don't support Peter. Big surprise.

Yeah it was definitely big-establishment people over there. And I could tell why the super delegates voted the way they did... only 1 went to Schiff because the rest want to be in good terms with the more likely (in their minds) next Senator.

The delegates of 3 towns went 100% to Schiff. That, at least, was encouraging (and surprising to me). My town actually endorsed Schiff, but none of the delegates voted for him... so yeah, they definitely went with their second choice when they saw momentum wasn't in our favor.
