The Blimp Should Fly...

I honestly think you should maximize the largest population EARLY, which means focusing on E. Coast. This will also allow you to hit hard early just in case the weather dumps on you you're at least hitting D.C. instead of Nashville, TN (nothing against TN).

Not to mention, this way you are able to hit Boston on/about Dec 16 for Tea Party 07, hit New Hampshire, THEN bolt west to try and make it to Iowa for the 3 Jan caucus.

This is true. You don't need to to reach geographic areas, you need to reach large populations and events on the east coast, that will generate the press read in Iowa and other places, so you need to stick to the east coast - ie New Years Eve, Christmas, &ct.

MSM on our side?

Forgive me, but I'm unable to see any historical precedent which would make me believe the MSM would be on our side to promote this project. This should be especially transparent after tonight's debate and wrap-up.

Additionally, a political blimp will be unlikely to get significant national press billing over the Holiday season. It's in competition with the typical holiday story crap... retail sales, end of year stuff, feel-good Christmas stories.

Forgive me if I post to much on this topic, but I see this as the most important topic in RP's campaign right now.

I think there are a lot of "what-if"s here to consider on both accounts. On one account, if you tie the blimp to the largest populations along the E. Coast and try to coincide that with the Tea Party 07 donation, the media will almost CERTAINLY grab a hold of it. Look how much media coverage it garnered when the $4.3M was raised in the one day last time...then you get someone talking about where that blimp will be heading and to tell the American public (really the people on the E. Coast unfortunately for those out west) to look out for it.

On the other hand, I see the point of having guaranteed airtime on TV with that money. I think if you can coincide events (i.e. Blimp & Tea Party donation day), it will be more effective.

It is the first political blimp ever. That will deserve coverage. Plus the local media will cover it. It is the most interesting thing visually for the 2008 campaign.

Television coverage is about visuals.

Just fly over Time Square New York City on New Years Eve! Over a BILLION people watching TV!

Think of the millions watching in the USA, everyone watches the ball fall in Time Square New York at midnight!

East Coast

I'm now on board for keying on the east coast, but not for any of the previously stated reasons. Unfortunately, I believe Huckabee will be the big news out of Iowa. Before the debate, the Iowa fight was shaping up to be Huckabee vs. Romney. After tonight's debate, I think Huckabee KO'd Romney and it would be hard for anyone to make more Iowa caucus news than Huckabee. IMHO, anyways.

But our prize fighter can take New Hampshire, so keeping the blimp on the east coast can play to this advantage.

However, I reject the notion the blimp would get any Time's Square coverage. This is just silly optimism. In what dream sequence could this happen? "We're live here in Times Square about ready to celebrate the New Year. Wait... Wow. There's a blimp. Could one of the cameras pan in on that blimp?"

But regardless of when/where the blimp flies, I'm for it.

Notice how New Years Eve revolves around a Ball in New York. A blimp could provide the same effect for the campaign. It is the visuals.

Yes, and that's exactly why this current private buisness model is such a horrible idea, it has destroyed the original plan.

Uh... wow. You really believe if they see a blimp in Times Square they wont be amazed? What? Not trying to be offensive but you make no sense... They will be all over the blimp if it were in time square... I don't know how you could think differently... Maybe you can explain why you think this? Anyways, I think the biggest issue would be getting the blimp there. It is winter... weather can be nasty. Of course the experts will decide these things and if it is do-able I'm no weatherman or political strategist.

We need to challenge the students of Iowa.

If they can raise money or get enough supporters to pledge to go to the caucus, then we should consider sending the blimp their way weather permitting.
