The Blimp Should Fly...

The Rose Bowl (1/1/08) and Super Bowl (2/3/08) would be great, but both are on the west coast.

Obviously it should fly over the cities w/ early primaries on the day of the primary. Either NYC, Atlanta or Chicago on Super Tuesday.

160 hrs of flying time x 30 mph(average)= 4800 miles that the blimp will be able to travel on average for the month. Keep that in mind.

Yes but, and I may be wrong here, I would imagine that we're going to want the blimp to hang out in some cities and fly around for a little while rather than making a beeline from destination to destination. So I think that would cut down a bit on distance traveled vs. flying time.

As a pilot when I rented airplanes, the clock starts ticking when the engines start up, so any time on the ground taking off, landing and safety checking will burn up some hours.

That on the ground time could be just as or more important as photo and media opportunities. Especially where they park it.

Population centers

There's a flaw in many people's reasoning. Luckily, there's a perfect gauge at our disposal for figuring the best path...

If the size of population centers is what is important, all candidates would be blitzing the Boston, NYC and Washington DC metro areas with campaign ads right now. But all candidates are not doing this because they know campaigns are won and lost in the earliest states. That's whey everyone keys primarily on Iowa and NH.

Luckily, there's a line of key metro areas all the way from Elizabeth City, TN to Iowa. As evidenced by this map...

Route-to-Iowa.jpg

This route would take a week to get to Iowa and would fly over the busiest interstate traffic in the country. (I'll gladly provide references if anyone requests)

This decision is huge and we don't want to botch it. Let's get our thinking caps on.

JN

New England Patriots home games right in New Hampshire's neighborhood.
2 NFL games in New York in 2 days right before New Years.

Sun. Dec. 16 NYJ@NE
Sun. Dec. 23 MIA@NE

Sat. Dec. 29, NE@NYG
Sun. Dec. 30, KC@NYJ
Mon. Dec. 31, New Years countdown in Times Square

If the blimp goes to Iowa, it should take a slight detour to take in a wider sweep of Michigan. Taking it over northern Illinois would be good because You'd hit Chicago and all it's suburbs.

The bad thing is that Penn. and Ohio even though they have a few big cities, both vote after super Tuesday.

If you take it to Iowa, I don't think you can have it in Boston for the tea party.
Instead of using all the flying hours to go from point A to point B, it might be more effective to fly in circles over point A. In other words, it might be better to skip Iowa and just really focus the blimp on New Hampshire and New York/New England for a couple weeks, flying over Patriots home games, Times Square, covering New Hampshire really well, and inviting lots of media and VIPs for free blimp rides.

Maybe there is time to be in New York on New Years eve then get to Iowa, across Michigan back to New Hampshire, then back to Michigan.

Reverse course!

Unfortunately, it has to start from North Carolina; that's where the blimp will be returned to.

In that case, follow my original flight path starting in North Carolina, dip down to Charleston, SC, and Orlando, FL, then reverse course up along the Eastern seaboard to New Hampshire, then cut across to Iowa.

After reading the capabilities of the airship on ronpaulblimp.com, it is obvious, we can not fly it to all the locations we would love to. And weather plays a key part also. Having it in Boston for Dec. 16th would be awesome, but again, a blizzard might be blowing.

Fly it in the southeast with emphasis on sporting events, mainly NFL games, Ron Paul Rallies, or even opposing candidate Rallies, and upcoming primaries. Call ahead to local stations to let them know when and where, and what time the Ron Paul Blimp will arrive and milk the publicity for all it is worth. There will be lots of bowl games in the south and southeast with national coverage, so lets not forget them also.

Somehow I doubt the FAA and all the other governmental agencies would be cool with a blimp flying over times square, football stadiums, etc. They'll make up some excuse about terrorism and stop it.
