The 2012 GOP Presidential Primary Will Be Ugly

While talking politics with a mentor last night, it dawned on me just how ugly the Presidential primary will be. This also makes me question whether there is any candidate that will actually be able to build enough support to overthrow Obama.

1) There is an increasing divide in the Republican Party

Ron Paul might have been a small player in the last primary, but his support has increased over the past two years. Anyone who knows Paul supporters knows that they are extremely passionate about their views and oftentimes find many problems with mainstream (or neo-conservative) Republicans. Many of these supporters will have a hard time voting for a Republican candidate if they have views that are radically different than Paul.

This divide has shown up recently in the differing reactions to the CPAC straw poll (which Paul won) as well as many neo-conservatives lashing out against the non-interventionist foreign policy of Paul.

Yep I have understood ths for quite some time. Republicans need a candidate who is not your traditional beltway type. They need a new face someone who can appeal to those who are tired of the government.

In fact it's in the interest of everyone in DC to do this. Otherwise things are going to get difficult for everyone in Washington.

Obama is gone, he is done. The HC bill must be dealt with and it means Obama has to go. There is no question the Democrats have finished themselves off for quite awhile. They will have to reinvent themselves to gain trust again. It will take some time, in the meanwhile get some R's in there that are small government and make as much progress as possible towards claiming states rights and buffering against the growth of government and start to reverse the process.

It will be easier to push states rights under Republican leadership than Democratic.

How come no Liberty Candidates have called for impeachment? The only way you are going to solve any of the problems is to get the man safely out of office by impeachment or by resignation from increasing threat of impeachment. Before he gets himself killed and, thus, the country as well.

The democrats you say? There are only 3 candidates running for the 2010 congressional seats calling for impeachment. They are all democrats, and one has won her primary and freaked out the Tx State Dem Party like you wouldn't believe.

So quit bashing the dems my friend. There are some of us who never wanted this man in office, didn't vote for him, and want him out. Instead perhaps get the liberty candidates currently running to grow a pair of cahones and publicly say impeach obama, otherwise absolutely no one in the list of the liberty candidates understands the systemic risk he runs to the republic and the world if he continues to head the executive.

Although I agree wholeheartedly with your point: impeach Obama. Although I'd suggest we do it for constitutional reasons. I wouldn't trust any of these three to do it for a constitutional reason, since they apparently haven't read it.

The primary will be hideous, but the general election will be very different. The reason the primary will be so heated is that the GOP smells blood in the water.

I would not put it past the Democrats, if they were smart, to put up someone to "run against" Obama, leaving him as a sacrificial lamb to posterity, already having accomplished the goal of furthering the programs. Putting someone else more "moderate" up there might scare the GOP enough, and rally enough Democrats who'll buy the line that whoever it is really is "different," to make the general election interesting.

I'm not sure I give the Democrats that much intellectual credit, though.

Kesha might have won her primary, but the 22nd is a GOP stronghold. The only reason a Dem held the seat for 2 years was because DeLay withdrew under fire.

Summer. Up against Pelosi, like Shirley Golub two years before, bless him for trying, but it's not going to happen. Anyways, this forum already has a candidate in John Dennis.

Rachel. Up against Frank, bless her for trying too, but it's not going to happen. She kind of looks like Rachel Maddow, so people might vote for on that confusion.

We need to get an Austrain Economict to B*** slap him though. He voted for the bailouts. He is an economic midget and will surround himself with statist economists. He is not bad for a neocon lite but I think his lack of understanding economics is fatal. We cannot afford to have stupid people in the WH anymore.

Bush was quite possibly one of the stupidest presidents we ever have had. I don't want to see it happen again. Ryan is sharper than Bush but he has no background in Austrian Economics. I saw him speak about his vote on the bailout and he was defensive and not apologetic at all.

I've said this to others, but even if Ron Paul loses the general election, if he won the primary it would be a game changing event for the country just based on the educational outreach effect the campaign would have.

I think Ron Paul running at all is a win situation for the freedom movement.

bottom line the problem in the gop is not obama but the gop leadership itself. the gop will alienate themselves if they do not follow Ron Paul 2012.
