Shameless self-promotion for me and my colleagues in Tate County Mississippi. Copied from another thread to here in grassroots central just because I felt like it :)

Ok, finally done with the day.

I am an alternate delegate to the State Convention in Jackson Mississippi which will be held on May 18th.

In Mississippi delegates are apportioned to candidates who get over 15% of the popular vote, which alas Ron Paul was unable to accomplish.

So I will be bound, at least initially, to vote for a non-Ron nominee and I will faithfully discharge this duty for the Republican voters of the State of Mississippi.

The other two delegates from Tate County are more Republican Party establishment types and are willing to go along with the most popular nominee because they see beating Obama as the top priority. While I personally feel that there isn't much difference between Obama and Romney, and am not shy about expressing this opinion, I can't disagree that Romney would be worse than Obama so I at least can make that concession. But no, I will not give any type of pledge or anything to support Romney or any other candidate except for the narrow duty of discharging my obligation to the Republican voters of Mississippi in voting for whomever I am bound to vote for if I must. I don't know at the State level if there will be any sort of unbinding or release of delegates but if there is of course I will vote for Ron Paul, and regardless of how Mississippi's delegates may be bound at the National Convention I will be voting for Ron Paul supporters to fill these slots.

I have also allowed myself to be elected to the Executive committee as an at-large member for Tate County, and even volunteered to serve as the Secretary for the Tate County Republican Party. This will obligate me to attend monthly meetings of the Republican Party, keep some records (like email lists and such), and interact with the County and State officials to coordinate primaries for the Republican Party. Obviously this will force me out of my comfort zone and into meeting more people with whom I can try and convert to supporters of strict limited government and substantial changes in policy such as championed by Ron Paul. Oh, also, the Treasurer of our County party is a avid Ron Paul supporter too, and of the 11 total members of our Executive committee at least 5 of us are solid Ron Paul supporters, so I am going to go ahead and declare my intent to turn the Tate County Republican Party into a more 'radical' direction for liberty and individual sovereignty than it has been in the past, but of course I am not out to deliberately alienate anyone who has some real support for smaller government and less taxes and is willing to actively work towards achieving these goals.

It feels good to me to be taking a more active role instead of just yapping on RPF (as fun and educational as that is) and reading about stuff online. Indeed, my personality type (a 5 with a 4 wing in the enneagram system) actually needs to move towards the 8, which is the personality type of natural leaders, in order for me to actualize my innate abilities and more fully integrate myself as a mentally mature individual. Or as I see it my role at this stage in my life isn't necessarily to become a leader but rather to find and challenge those who are leaders to direct their talents towards my goals; in other words I see myself more as a kingmaker than a king, I just need to find the right person to get behind. Of course this may require me to actually lead by example, but being a 'leader' isn't what I really want to do.

Much thanks to all on here who have supported me, debated with me, confided in me, and generally reminded me I'm not alone in my quest to find more freedom and to be able to pursue my own happiness as I decide. I remember in 2008 how much work I did and at the end had essentially nothing to show for it (heck we didn't even have rep back then!), it's very satisfying to now see many others like me in my local who are now also willing to step up and fight with Ron Paul to get our sovereignty back.

Yours In Liberty,

I'm a 5/4 too! What's your instinctual variant?

I'd love to be more active but I'm not in America at the moment. Just contributing money and cheerleading basically. I'll be down in mid July in Miami if anything's going on there at that point I don't know.

You know...with the highly partisan nature of the vast majority of dolts in this country, I have to ask...is it better to revive the anti-war sentiment (temporarily) in the country because a (R) is inside that white house instead of a (D) in lieu of the (R) destroying the general anti-Government inclination among the (R) ranks. I can't answer, but I can give a qualified they're both hellspawn (figuratively of course). :p

We're talking about you, WilliamC, at the MS for Ron Paul 2012 Facebook page. I told them you refuse to do Facebook, but we're very proud of you and there are several posts about you. We are sticking together as a group even after the delegate selection is over. I suggested we form a forum, or start posting in the MS section here, but everyone seems to love FB and thinks it's easier. Member of BOTH groups have decided to try and keep RPF updated in the MS section of posts from the FB group. WE HAVE TO STICK TOGETHER as there is much work to be done.

Congrats, WilliamC -- hope to meet you at the state convention in MS!

How about ABSTAINING on the first ballot????

because they see beating Obama as the top priority.

This is why ELECTABILITY AGAINST OBAMA should always have been Ron's CORE ISSUE due to his appeal amongst Indies & Dems as the anti-war, pro-civil-liberties candidate

I haven't really bought any of the books or such so the only knowledge of the enneagram I have is from free information I've gotten off of web pages and such, but I would think I tend towards the self-preservation instinct.

It's good to know Ron Paul is winning supporters all over the world, well it makes sense since his message of liberty and individual sovereignty is Universal.

I don't pretend to know 'what is right' in the sense of whether or not it would be 'better' for Obamney or Rombama to win the White House, I just think things will get worse instead of better regardless of which one is elected.

They may get worse in different ways are at different rates but there won't be much difference in the end result.

We'll figure out a way to coordinate, I just don't have any desire to sign up for a Facebook account or to get a Google account if I don't choose to.

Heck, one of the members of our Executive Committee seems to be a real sharp fellow and strongly independent minded like me and he won't even get an email account, he isn't interested in being 'plugged into the system' as it were. He gets his email and internet through his wife's account.

Some of us just don't have as much trust in new-fangled technogadgets as the rest ;)

My email to the Tate County Ron Paul supporters this morning, posted here because I am a rep seeking attention whore ;)

Greetings All,

I am grateful to everyone who turned out to the Precinct and County Caucus this past Saturday, thank you so much and it was a true pleasure to meet you and have a chance to get to know some of you. It seems we have a very good foundation of patriots in Tate County who are highly motivated to work towards restoring our inherent rights as individuals and to greatly reduce the power and authority of the Federal government which is seeking to dominate every aspect of our lives.

I am pleased to report that we had two victories for Ron Paul. First, I was able to be selected as an alternate delegate to the State Convention from Tate County, along with two other gentlemen who are more experienced in State politics than I and who, if not active Ron Paul supporters, at least share many of our same concerns. Second, myself and 4 others of us volunteered to serve as Executive Committee members for the Tate County Executive Committee, giving 5 of 11 members who are moderate to strong Ron Paul supporters.

Also, unlike in 2008 when I was briefly involved in the Tate County Republican Party, it seems not only did most people I talked to on Saturday know exactly who Ron Paul was they also had very good things to say about him for some of his positions. There is still concern over issues such as foreign policy and his potential electability, but from my impression the past several years have definitely shifted the mood of many people so that they now understand more fully the serious economic and financial problems our Nation faces.

I have also been in touch with xxxxxxx, the District One coordinator for the Ron Paul campaign, and he is arranging a meeting this next Saturday, May 5th, in xxxxxxx to discuss organizing a Campaign For Liberty chapter in Mississippi with the hope of getting more involvement from Mississippians all over the State in not only the Ron Paul campaign (which is one way or another winding down) but in promoting pro-liberty candidates for all levels of government. I will forward details about this meeting when I get them. For those of you who may not be aware the CFL is an organization started by Ron Paul and others after his last campaign to work on getting like-minded folks elected to political offices, they were instrumental in getting Rand Paul elected as Senator from Kentucky. The website for Campaign For Liberty is http://www.campaignforliberty.com and I would encourage anyone who is interested to check them out.

I will work on refining this list in the days to come. Obviously we all have demands on our time and money and some of us are very busy with their work as I used to be myself. But these days I do find myself with spare time so I am both willing and able to help try and organize us Tate County patriots and Ron Paul supporters so as to maximize our influence both locally and in our State. For one thing I will be attending more various meetings from here on out, this includes the monthly Tate County Republican meetings (held at the Senatobia Public Library on the Second Monday of every month, 7:00 P.M.) and the Tate County Tea Party meetings (held the 7:00 P.M. on the third Thursday of every month at the Senatobia Community Center on Southern street.) Their website is http://teapartyoftatecounty.com/pages/board-members.php

For now these seem the best two venues to use for us to meet as a group. Of course any future activities or meetings or such will be at the discretion of those of us who wish to participate, but I for one do not have a desire to create any unnecessary meetings or bureaucracies or groups, we have too much of that already and in my opinion they are often part of the problem instead of the solution. As I see it, the solutions are to be found in the actions of individuals and spontaneously organized groups who are narrowly focused on specific issues instead of broad philosophical ideas, so I strongly encourage us to seek out each other and work together on things that matter to you.

Again I will include the link to the County Project as promoted by a group Freedom Reigns. I do not have much direct experience with this group yet (I have listened to a couple of their radio programs and it seems one of the founders/leaders is herself a resident of North Mississippi) but they give very good ideas on how power can be restored to individual County governments at the expense of taking it from the State and Federal governments. While I think that all governments are inherently trouble I am not any sort of anarchist and I strongly believe that whatever government exists the most power it has over us should be at the local level. That way if I don't like something I am at least free to move to a different place where folks think more like I do. This link is http://freedomreigns.us/County_Project.html please check it out.

Again, thank you all who are open to the ideas that Ron Paul champions. His 35 years in public office and his integrity, honesty, and humility have been an inspiration to me and, regardless of the outcome of his campaign, I am proud to support him for President and to follow his lead in trying to return the United States to its founding principles, as expressed in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. We will never have a perfect life in this world, but it is incumbent upon us to work to better ourselves and our communities if we wish to honer our forefathers and secure the blessings of liberty to our children.

I also know there is perhaps some fear and uncertainty in many of us about the direction our Nation and our World seems to be heading towards, sometimes I wonder about this myself. But I will just end with the words from Thomas Paine, one of America's founders who was not a particularly religious man but who became the voice of the Revolution nonetheless. He said, and I repeat, “If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.” So whatever is to come I wish to confront it head on myself so that my children, and theirs, my have a better life than I have. If you feel the same then I am ready to stand with you, even if there may be other reasons we could find to disagree with each other. Freedom brings us together.

Yours In Liberty,

William C Colley

*****Keep in mind that Delegates don't have to vote in the first round.*****

I have no doubt we Ron Paul supporters will meet and discuss strategy prior to the State Convention. If there is any way that I can ethically support Ron Paul I will.

But note that Ron Paul himself has never waivered from his positions nor has he deceived others as to his intentions. If I must ethically and legally do something to represent the will of the voters of Mississippi I will discharge this duty and keep my word, just as I believe Ron Paul himself would and would expect of me. But if by using the rules of the system in an ethical and legal manner we are able to actually directly support Ron Paul I will support that.

Just see my sig line if there is any further confusion as to my position on this issue :)

How about I fulfill my obligation I voluntarily took on by becoming a delegate to represent the Republican voters of the State of Mississippi?

There's no bigger "ethical" argument than doing anything one can to curtail violations of people's liberties

Unfortunately, campaign & most Paul-supporters don't want to hear it, they think everyone thinks like a Paul-supporter & cares about "useless" things like integrity, one look at the government tells us how much people care about integrity, it's deluded to think that they do, they don't; they only care about winning & that's precisely why Romney is leading because he's "most electable & capable of beating Obama"

Well, as an old political animal from another country on the other side of the world, I have heard of people who solved their inner conflict between duty and prosaic mind by giving their vote to the candidate of their obligation and to the candidate of their wish at the same time.
Sadly, that renders the ballot spoiled, but hey, that's a problem of the rules, not the person.

However I am not advocating that people en masse should purposely spoil their ballots come convention day. That would be very unfair and a very cheap trick to get into a second round of voting.

abstaining is ethical. It is perfectly legal under gop rules so not sure why your getting hostile against a rpf member for asking you to follow rules.
