Get a load of this: The New Republic is trying to rehabilitate Waco as a progressive cause célèbre.

You see, reaction to the Waco Massacre has been hijacked by misogynistic, transphobic, QAnon-ing, J6-er white supremacists for their own vile and nefarious purposes. Really, though, it ought to be "fold[ed] in" with George Floyd, et al. (no doubt in service to the noble and heroic causes of "trans rights", Antifa, etc.).

That's a 50 year sample of school shootings.

There have been more than 35 mass shootings just this year.

The takeaway for me is that schools are relatively safe and yes, arming teachers would help reduce those numbers.

Yep. School shootings are rare. And most gang shootings affect people in poor neighborhoods. Something to be dealt with for sure but it's not happening everywhere.

My cousin, who was a middle school principal, hired veterans to be janitors for that very reason.

The last one from this weekend was a black house party of some sort, held in a white neighborhood, and 18 people got shot.

So no, you can not avoid it simply by staying away from poor black areas.

British female darts player Deta Hedman refused to play against a transgender competitor in the Denmark Open over the weekend and removed herself from the competition.

Hedman was set to face Noa-Lynn van Leuven in the quarterfinals of the tournament but opted not to play instead and forfeited.

Hedman pushed back on reports she pulled out of the match due to an illness and also declined compensation she may have lost due to her decision.

“No fake illness I said I wouldn’t play a man in a ladies event,” Hedman wrote on X.

She added, “This subject causing much angst in the sport I love . People can be whoever they want in life but I don’t think biological born men should compete in Women’s sport.”

Van Leuven eventually lost to Beau Graves in the semifinals.

Van Leuven defeated Graves in March in a women’s event in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) as well as a mixed event.

Van Leuven told The Guardian last year that the transition began at the age of 16, and as van Leuven started to move into women’s competitive darts, the backlash began.

“I was getting more and more unhappy with myself, to a point that I didn’t want to live any more,” van Leuven told the outlet. “And that was the moment where I thought: I can go two sides now. I can end it, or I can live as who I want to live.”

PDC chief executive Matt Porter told The Guardian last year that van Leuven complies with the organization’s transgender participation policy.

The PDC follows the Darts Regulation Authority’s policy, which is governed by the International Olympic Committee.

The IOC’s darts policy requires transgender female competitors to have a testosterone level below 10 nanomoles per liter for at least 12 months and that gender identity cannot be changed for at least four years. The transgender female may not have a “presumption of advantage” and the IOC advises sports to “disproportionate advantage, which needs therefore to be mitigated.”

I have no idea. I thought about that myself when I first heard the story. I do think that some of the drama would go away but just making as many sports as possible co-ed. Equestrian is already that way.

Ah. A hip hop party in the middle of an open field in rural Alabama. You're telling me you couldn't take one look at that poster and say "Yeah....I'll pass?" I stand by what I said earlier. The gangsta types are mostly a menace to each other. And there is a real cultural problem. It's not just the music. Games like "Grand Theft Auto" and movies like "The Fast and The Furious" and "Bad Boys 1 - 3" make gun violence and street racing seem cool and without real consequences. And who's driving a culture that promotes black on black violence? Ice Cube knows.

Yes, of course I would, especially when I found out that most of these folks came from Pritchard and Scaryland in Mobile.

And if said as much, I'd be called a racist.

You're missing the point of why I am keeping this thread going, which I'll come back to later.

But in the meantime, let me ask why does this happen.

We have car shows and gatherings just like that every summer all across my state with almost no incidents of any kind.

We have had 20 years now of PorcFests, where thousands show up over the length of the event, some folks walking about carrying Class Three fully automatic weapons, just because we can, and there has never been a shooting, let alone a mass shooting.
