ISIS storms Deir Ezzor in new bid to capture military airport

BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:55 P.M.) - On Wednesday morning, the Islamic State
launched another powerful attack in the Deir Ezzor Governorate,
targeting the Syrian Arab Army's (SAA) defenses at the Panorama area
and Harabish District of the provincial capital.

Under heavy bombardment by the Russian Air Force, the Islamic State
attempted to seize more territory north of the Deir Ezzor Military Airport
in order to completely besiege this installation.

Despite sending several waves of combatants towards the Syrian Arab Army's defenses,
the Islamic State was unable to make any important gains
near the Panorama Roundabout or Harabish District thus far.

According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army in Deir Ezzor
has managed to push back all Islamic State militants in the Harabish District,
but they are still under heavy assault in the Panorama area.

The Syrian Arab Army attempted to reverse the Islamic State's gains north of the military airport yesterday;
however, they were ultimately repelled after a long battle at night.

►ISIS has been sending a huge amount of reinforcement to Deir Ezzor because of devastating losses they have sustained in their battle against the Syrian Army.

►Most of the reinforcements are coming from villages in the Deir Ezzor countryside and from Iraq, primarily from Anbar Province where they are being routed by Iraqi forces.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:00 P.M.) - Syrian and Russian jets have been nonstop bombing
the Islamic State (ISIS) militants across the Syrian Desert today,
destroying several of the terrorist group's trenches and hideouts
in order to forestall their offensive operations.

With Russian and Syrian airstrikes bogging ISIS down in Deir Ezzor and east Palmyra,
the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has taken the opportunity to regroup and prepare
a large-scale counter-attack to recover what they have lost to the terrorist group over the last six days.

According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army
has already begun military operations in western Palmyra,
liberating several sites en route to the village of Al-Baridah south of the T-4 Airport.

Meanwhile, in Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Arab Army
is mounting a counter-offensive near the military airport in order to reclaim
the cemetery, Jirayah village, and much of the Harabish District from the Islamic State militants.

If these counter-operations are successful,
then the Syrian Arab Army should be in prime position to reverse
all of the gains made by the terrorist group in December.

made their first push towards the Al-Raqqa Governorate this year,

Backed Russian airstrikes, the Syrian Arab Army and National Defense Forces (NDF)
managed to liberate a number of villages in the Khanasser Plain,
creating a large buffer-zone around the government's only supply route to the Aleppo Governorate.

According to a military source in Aleppo, the Syrian Arab Army
is making a push to the Islamic State's heartland in the Maskanah Plain;
if they successfully reach this area, they will be in position to enter the Al-Raqqa Governorate
for the first time since their failed offensive last year.

Perhaps there is no better time to launch this offensive in east Aleppo for the Syrian Army,
as the Islamic State has gambled a lot by carrying out their latest large-scale assault in Deir Ezzor.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:50 P.M.) - For over a month, the Turkish Army and their rebel allies
have tried to capture Al-Bab from the Islamic State (ISIS);
however, each and every assault has failed to achieve any significant gains around this strategic city in east Aleppo.

With the Islamic State concentrated on beating back the Turkish Armed Forces,
the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has taken advantage of the terrorist group's poor defenses in the southern part of Al-Bab,
liberating a number of villages in the last 48 hours.

On Thursday, the Syrian Arab Army's "Tiger Forces" continued their rapid advance in the east Aleppo countryside,
launching a powerful attack to capture the village of Barlihiyeh from the Islamic State terrorists in the Al-Bab Plateau.

This attack would prove successful, as the Syrian Arab Army declared Barlihiyeh
under their full control before nightfall on Thursday.

The Syrian Arab Army's next target is the key village of Souran,
which is considered one of the Islamic State's last strongholds south of Al-Bab city.

Turkish forces have penetrated deeply into the western countryside of Kobani,
targeting the Kurdish People's Protection Unit's (YPG).

Turkey recognizes the YPG as the Syrian extension of the outlawed Turkey-based Kurdistan Worker's Party
that it deems as a terrorist organization.

Turkish engineering teams accompanied the military forces and began digging trenches,
raising barrier and building walls to secure the countryside.

The invading forces also targeted the YPG in the Jaregli area of Kobani countryside.

The siege of Kobani in late 2014 and into early 2015 became an infamous battle
where ISIS had virtually captured the city, but ended up having a resounding withdrawal
with a resurgent Kurdish fighting force with the backing of US-led coalition airstrikes pushing them back.
Allegations were made that some ISIS units even attacked northern Kobani from Turkish territory
and were supported by the Turkish military.

Before Leaving White House Obama Bombs CIA-Vetted Syrian Rebels Embedded with Al-Qaeda

If one event can symbolize the incoherence of the Obama administration's support
for the so-called "vetted moderate" rebels in Syria,
it would be one of Obama's last acts in his last full day in office.

On Friday the Pentagon reported that they had struck a terror training camp near Idlib, (like fish in a barrel)
killing more than one hundred Al-Qaeda terrorists.

The wrinkle is that several members of a group that had previously been backed by the CIA
and received TOW missiles as part of an Obama administration program—
and were at the camp
and embedded with Al-Qaeda
—were also killed.

The New York Times reported:

The B-52 strike on Thursday, the Pentagon said, was directed at the Shaykh Sulayman Training Camp in Idlib.
Pentagon officials said that it had been in operation for several years
but had only recently become a base for “core Al Qaeda” extremists,
who have largely come from outside Syria to fight and plot attacks. (yeah... no shiit.)
All told, 14 bombs and missiles were used in that attack.

“The removal of this training camp disrupts training operations and discourages hard-line Islamist and Syrian opposition groups
from joining or cooperating with Al Qaeda on the battlefield,” Capt. Jeff Davis, a Pentagon spokesman, said in a statement.

'MODERATES COMPLAIN' (bb-bb-but WE'RE yer friends Senator McCain... hello? hello? )
The airstrike was condemned by the Syrian opposition group Jabhat Fateh al-Sham,
which complained that the camp for new recruits was one of theirs
and that the practical effect would be to eliminate fighters
who are confronting Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian leader.
Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, formerly known as the Nusra Front,
claims to have broken with Al Qaeda,
but American officials say they are still a Qaeda affiliate. (ok... so NOW we tell the 'truth'. )

But it quickly emerged that not only was this an al-Qaeda terror training camp,
but one operated with a rebel group previously supported and "vetted" by the CIA, Harakat Nour al-Din al-Zenki:
And it was quickly noted that Zenki had previously been supported by the Obama administration and many Western think tank "experts":

As I reported here at PJ Media just two months ago,
Zenki was using CIA-provided TOW missiles as recently as late November,
even posting video firing the missiles to their Twitter account.

SUNDAY:

BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:35 A.M.) - The Islamic State (ISIS) launched a massive assault in Deir Ezzor on Sunday,
targeting the Syrian Arab Army's (SAA) defenses around the Panorama area.

Taking advantage of the rough weather, the Islamic State terrorists
stormed the Syrian Arab Army's defenses at the Panorama Farms;
this resulted in a fierce battle that lasted for much of the morning on Sunday.

Despite some rumors spread on social media regarding the battle at the Panorama roundabout and farms,
the Islamic State never took control of these sites in western Deir Ezzor;
instead, they ended up on the defensive
as the Syrian Arab Army launched a powerful assault at the cemetery.

According to a military source in Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Arab Army
advanced at least 400 meters through the cemetery,
forcing the Islamic State terrorists to withdraw from several points
after suffering a number of casualties.

Among the points captured by the Syrian Arab Army on Sunday
was the strategic cemetery hill, which overlooks the Deir Ezzor Bus Station.

The military source added that over 40 Islamic State terrorists
were killed during Sunday's field operations, including a large number
of foreign combatants from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq.

The long awaited peace talks in Kazakhstan's capital, Astana,
that were organized and to be mediated by Russia, Iran and Turkey
began with a rocky start after a disagreement
on who would deliver speeches first
which delayed the processions by 40 minutes.

Along with this delay, and to make matters more tense,
Russia and Turkey agreed to negotiate on behalf of the Syrian government and the militant groups respectively
so that they would not have to face each other.

The Astana conference began with a speech by Kazakh Foreign Minister.

Before the start of the peace talks,
the Syrian delegation only spoke with the Russian and Iranian delegates,
not the Turkish,
suggesting that there is still a long way before a Syrian-Turkish rapprochement.
