SWAT flash-bangs toddler in play pen - the "Baby Bou Bou" saga

Reading about shit like this makes me squirm in my seat, how can they be allowed to do this? How can they live with themselves?

A chief assistant district attorney for the county, J. Edward Staples, says the target of the warrant could in fact be charged for the injuries the sheriff's deputies caused the toddler.

So essentially it sounds like we have a green light environment fostered by DA's office that promotes this kind of disgusting behavior. It would therefore appear that J. Edward Staples is an accessory to the evil act and the suffering of this baby is on his hands as well.

CNN has updates on the story of the Georgia SWAT team that threw a flash bang while executing a no-knock warrant that severely burned a nineteen-month-old baby. Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell says the deputies involved are "devastated" and that they've been called "baby killers" and received threats. "All I can say is pray for the baby, his family and for us," the sheriff told CNN.

Terrell has insisted his officers and those of the local police department did nothing wrong and blamed the target of the warrant (not found at the house that was invaded) on the attack on the toddler. A chief assistant district attorney for the county, J. Edward Staples, says the target of the warrant could in fact be charged for the injuries the sheriff's deputies caused the toddler. In an obvious attempt to immunize himself and his office from liability, the sheriff has claimed the situation was unavoidable even as he attempted to offer reassurances that his SWAT team would be more diligent in the future. He told CNN that his officers "obviously would have done things different" (IF they knew there was a child in the home), like go in through a side door or not use a flash bang. Until using violence to crack down on non-violent "crimes" becomes politically untenable for "public servants," it won't matter how much ass-covering law enforcement does after the fact, these kinds of incidents will continue to happen.

The toddler's family, who was staying with a relative at the home that was attacked after their own home in Wisconsin was burned down, say they don't have insurance and a family friend has set up a website for donations.

A circuit district attorney is conducting a "review" of the incident, which should be done next week according to the chief assistant district attorney. Terrell had previously said neither the district attorney's office nor the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was investigating the incident.
That is F'ed up. F'ing "just us" low life pond scum.

... "What are the chances of this 'review' finding anything wrong with what the cops did?"

They won't charge the guy who had the warrant; there's too much publicity now. Hello local PD, meet internet.

Never, apparently. I find it absolutely flabbergasting that they have yet to cross someone who has the MANhood to take out everyone of those fucks on the SWAT team after something like this happened.

truly, a nation of fucking cowards. God it breaks my heart on the deepest of levels to say that about my own country, but I immediately feel better knowing its the truth.

This is exactly where I'm at. I'm no longer outraged that cops do this and get away with it. I'm outraged nobody has the balls to give them their own medicine in response. Until I start hearing stories of these pricks being found after suffering horrendous payback I'm running out of sympathy.

Where are this kids relatives and why don't they permanently end these fuckers ability to commit these acts?

Most people are not willing to become a martyr. Perhaps if you showed them how it is done, you might get a few takers.

I don't think a martyr can exist in our current times due to how the media is set up to tell people what to think.

Get bent.

I take from your comment, maybe I should have my family raided and kids blown up, to "show them how it's done", or "get a few takers"....because that's what I was opining about.

Then I will GLADLY show them how it's done, asshole.

And then you can sit back in the comfort of your chair, and wax eloquently about how you would've done it differently.

SMDH, just sickening...

Warrant: Raid that injured toddler based on info from informant

HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. —

The application for the no-knock warrant that left a toddler in critical condition says a criminal informant saw guns inside the home on previous occasions, but not the day of the raid according to Channel 2's Kerry Kavanaugh. That day, authorities say a SWAT team entered the home and used a flash-bang device that landed in 19-month-old Bounkham Phonesavanh’s crib.

Kavanaugh went to the courthouse and pulled a copy of the search warrant application. A judge signed off on the warrant around midnight. Hours later, the special response team moved in through the side door into a room where the child was sleeping.

According to the application, the investigator told the judge a criminal informant “was able to purchase a quantity of methamphetamine from suspect, Wanis Tthonetheva, at the residence.” The investigator also described several individuals “standing guard, heavy traffic in and out,” and the “presence of weapons on previous occasions.” The report says that was the basis for the 'no-knock' provision. However, Kavanaugh found that nowhere in the application does the investigator detail a specific threat or danger to officers.

After the raid, when the warrant was returned, the only evidence reported was a “glass smoking device with residue of methamphetamine.” The report says there were no weapons and investigators didn't find their suspect either.

“Our primary focus is what rises to the level of ‘was that criminal,’” said District Attorney Brian Richman. “Should an officer go to jail for that? Was there an oversight or was there something that rises to the level of criminal liability?”

....

“You can't do a thorough review in a matter of 24, to 48 to 72 hours. It has to be done appropriately,” said Rickman.

...

During a news conference Monday afternoon, others pointed to the lack of an investigation saying key evidence is still laying around the house.

“The pin from the grenade is still in the driveway so there has been absolutely no collection of evidence and that first and foremost is an issue,” said the family’s attorney, Mawuli Mel Davis. “The other thing that you will see is that we are doing our own investigation because as far as we're concerned no investigation has started."

yes, the best way for officer safety to protect himself, is to get the address wrong and flash-bang the playpen.

mission accomplished, proceed to doughnut shop and hope for paid leave.

:)

So now in the front of every door and window should we put, "baby on board" type of signs, so that cops are "aware" children are around????

Because it's the family's fault for not telling the SWAT time at 2AM, that there is a baby sleeping.

So let me get this straight.....A guy is a suspect and is assumed to be at home....Cops barge in and blow up a kid....the guy's not around....and the guy who wasn't around is going to get charged with blowing up the kid?

Did the DA just say that?

That is what he's saying right???

In any other world or country does that make any fucking sense at all?

Oh and you bet for damned sure the cops searched every fucking corner and crack of that house looking for drugs and weapons. Just to try and justify blowing up a kid (which it wouldnt expect somehow in their twisted minds), and still they came up empty. How fucking pathetic is that.

So the cops are like, "Hey man! I was looking for you! And I plowed into your home and threw a flash bang grenade and burned a baby's face and put him in a coma! And you weren't even there! And we couldn't find your drugs or weapons! Now people are calling us baby killers! Man, this is so your fault!!!!" Huh!? Wha???

Baby Bou'bou did this to himself.

Quadruple check the home for children? There's an old playpen outside...There's a van with FOUR children car seats!!!

Quadruple check!?!

Baby in Coma After Police ‘Grenade’ Dropped in Crib During Drug Raid
(Better title than some other Shit Media)

(snip)

My son’s old playpen was right outside because we were getting ready to leave, we were going to throw it away… it was very, very visible,” Phonesavanh said.

“They can’t tell me there was no signs of kids,” Phonesavanh said. “My van sits right next to the door that they busted into. My van has family stickers on it, four car seats inside, right next to the door that they kicked in,” Phonesavanh said.

Terrell said. “It makes you do some soul-searching, and it makes you question, ‘Are you doing what you’re supposed to be doing?’” (FUCK YOU! You fucking Baby killer! Doing what your supposed to be doing!?! You actually just said that!?! You crack skulls for a living on people who commit non-violent crimes and now you are asking if you are doing what your supposed to be doing!? Tears for the camera?? Fucking sicko.)

“It’s hard, it’s difficult,” Terrell said.

“It’s going to make us double, triple, and quadruple check to know that there aren’t innocent parties in the house,” Terrell said. “It’s going to make us approach each situation differently.”

(Quadruple check!?! How about..Hey...is that a fucking playpen outside?? Hey, is that a van full of car seats we are standing next to as we chuck a grenade into the house?? Disingenuous fuckers.)

(snip)

The Phonesavanh family is without insurance and have set up a fund to pay for medical expenses. According to Terrell, the sheriff’s department has already contacted the hospital social worker to request that all hospital bills be forwarded to the county.

(Oh how sweet, let the gov't pay for it. Your heart is so big. You blew up a kid, and then told the hospital..Don't worry, the goberment will pay it.)

Comments from the ABC article.

This lady must be married to a cop or she is a cop:

They went top the house earlier in the day and di buy drugs. That's why they went back later. So they didn't just go on a tip. They bought the actual drugs and when they did it was clear this was a drug house. It sucks that this young baby had to be hurt but if you want to put your children in danger then its your own fault.

Another:

So she thought the security guards at the front and back doors were for what exactly? Would you live in a drug house with your kids? She lived there for months. It's not like she was there one night, and was leaving the next morning. This is her fault, and only her fault. The police were doing their job. Does she have a job? Does her husband have a job? Not to mention babies aren't supposed to sleep with a pillow, but lets blame that on the police somehow too.

Looks like this guy is ready to give out bj's to our overworked heroes:

The cops did the job they were hired to do. No cop went in without a proper execution of a no knock search warrant issued by a judge. This is an unfortunate situation for all. Yes, the cops should have done more to make sure innocent victims were protected and this is the lesson all police forces take from the day. Yes, there will be lawsuits. I'm impressed that the county has stepped up and had bills forwarded. But don't simply blame cops. They work hard trying to protect you. They enforce laws the people have enacted and we pay them to do so. If you don't like the system, get out there and change it. But don't blame cops arbitrarily. The are human. Everyone makes mistakes. But most of the time they get it right. Without them you would need to be barricaded inside your home and eventually killed by gangs and criminals.

At least one of them made me laugh..BEST COMMENT OF THE DAY! So sad but true:

"Funny how drugs can be bought, sold, and used, yet no one throws a grenade into a baby's cribs until the cops show up to do their job."
