See sig line.
If they ever did get charged with anything (and we both know that's not going to happen) then it would be on the premise that they've broken the state's rules.
It would have absolutely nothing to do with the fact that they harmed another human being. Our legal system has no concept whatsoever of victims. Since victims aren't necessary for there to be a crime, since it's just about breaking the state's rules, an agent of the state, acting on behalf of the state, cannot legally be breaking its rules.
The state directed these people to do exactly the things they did.
If anything serious did happen to these men at the hands of the legal system, it would be nothing more than a show trial to get the crowd of 1000 rifle-wielding citizens standing outside the police station to agree not to burn the place down with everyone inside.
But they're short about 1000 people for that scenario. And one reason why you're never going to get 1000 people to go along with that is because at least one of those is going to point out that show trials are not justice. And then someone else is going to recognize that killing them isn't justice. And then when everyone's discussing the topic of justice, we might all realize there's a complete void there, and what we were taught is justice, since we were that burned kid's age, is anything but justice.
We all need to slow the hell down here and recognize just how monkey fucked this system is. Our legal system is incapable of regularly producing justice and has been since day one.
So before we go lynching folk, we ought to have an idea what things are going to look like when we're done. And "anything but that" is not a complete enough answer to justify grabbing ropes.
