This could be extremely bad for the US. If Oblamo gets another one of his justice's into the SCOTUS he can use them to push through his Gun Grab. We could see the rise of the next American Civil War.

This seems on the surface to be a momentous event, but I am hard pressed to name anything specific that will change as a result.

The same Supreme Court that brought us Obamacare? They are already not defending the American people from any sort of tyranny as it is. RIP America. The republicans, if they can block any Obama nominations, will not appoint a conservative themselves either. The position will be filled by screaming liberal or a liberal who claims not to be. He / she will be the epitome of pussification. He will be interested in protecting the rich and powerful and masqurade as a defender of freedom.

Don't overestimate the impact. With Scalia on the court all this time, I have witnessed this country go from semi-free to a totalitarian permanent war state where the government has its hands in every aspect of the economy and individual personal lives and imposes total, full-spectrum surveillance on each and every one of its citizens, and more other abuses than I care to enumerate.

Perhaps some good will come of this, if it causes enough people to understand that there is no white knight in black robes who will save us. Seeing reactions across the web it is quite striking how much political conservatives subconsciously relied on Scalia to be there forever.

And yes, if you suspect a murder, you are not alone, not even close to it.

Just off the top of my head the Bush Vs. Gore, the Heller decision and Citizen's United Case were 5-4 decisions. Having a liberal judge instead would have changed the country.

Not to mention there is value in having someone who consistently votes pretty well in decisions in the same way Ron and Rand Paul have value voting.

If you think it made a positive difference that Bush was made President instead of Gore, then we have a very different understanding of the situation.

Heller doesn't matter because the government doesn't obey the law and hasn't for a very long time.

Citizens United was of no benefit to you or I, and didn't substantially change anything at all.

The other 8 were all nominees of George HW Bush, Bill Clinton, George W Bush, and Barack Obama. Scalia could have been Jesus Christ and Lord Blackstone reincarnated and it would make no difference.
