Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia died at a resort in Texas on Saturday. Scalia, 79, was the court’s conservative leader and his death means it is now more likely that key EPA rules that aim to curb climate pollution from the power industry will be upheld.

Last week’s ruling suggested to many onlookers that the Supreme Court might make a similar ruling on the Clean Power Plan case, striking down the rules. If that happens, the U.S. would be left without a credible plan for fulfilling its pledge to reduce its climate pollution by a little more than a quarter in 2025 compared with 2005 levels.

Scalia at least claims to be a strict originalist. He's a Reagan appointee, and certainly leans right. Better than most on the court even with his obvious issues.

As much as I feel bad for the loss of a man's life, there are bigger issues at play here. This is a disaster. Obama will appoint a radical progressive. The Court will now be majority wingnut progressive. This will be a serious problem.

It's especially bizarre considering that if I was going to smother a person to death with a pillow, I would either A: remove the pillow from the face so it didn't look like a murder or B: turn the body face down and put the pillow under his face so it didn't look like a murder.

Now in most cases petechial hemorrhaging would betray asphyxiation, but in this case even with known asphyxiation his state of health could lead to a ruling of natural causes. If he was in fact murdered, then leaving the pillow on top of the face is frankly the last thing I would expect.

Only time I would expect a pillow smothering murder to leave the pillow on top of the victim's face, is if the victim was a loved one of the murderer and they wanted to cover the face out of guilt/remorse. Like a husband or a wife or a parent who thinks they are doing the right thing but cannot bear to look at their victim's face.

Nothing whatsoever about that makes sense, and I half suspect it's someone having a laugh at the expense of conspiracy folks, trying to make conservatives look dumb.

Or it could simply be a warning to others that they can get away with murdering a Supreme Court judge and nobody can do anything about it.
