Global Warming anyone?

A bone-numbing Arctic blast drove temperatures down Friday to 30, 40 and 50 below in parts of the Midwest and Northeast, closing schools to spare children from freezing at bus stops and prompting police to keep a watchful eye out for the homeless.

Forecasters said temperatures in the upper Midwest could turn into the coldest in years as frigid air keeps spilling south from Canada. The cold snap has claimed at least six lives and contributed to dozens of traffic accidents as vehicles slipped and slid on icy roads.

One death involved a man in a wheelchair who was found in subzero temperatures stuck in the snow, a shovel in his hand, outside his home in Des Moines, Iowa. He died at a hospital.

By Friday morning, cities and towns in 13 states reported temperatures well below zero, among them:

-50 in Big Black River, Maine, in what could be a new state record
-46 in Embarrass, Minn.
-42 in Island Pond, Vt.
-42 in Necedah, Wis.
-39 in Berlin, N.H.
-38 in Monticello, Iowa
-36 in Sterling, Ill., possibly tying a state record
-35 in Paradox, N.Y.
-26 in Stambaugh, Mich.
-20 in Valparaiso, Ind.
-19 in Lawton, Pa.
-16 in Snowshoe Mountain, W.Va.
-14 in Dayton, Ohio
In upstate New York, meteorologist Dave Sage said areas near Lake Erie were walloped by snow, with 2 inches falling per hour in some areas on Friday morning.

See what you are missing in Louisiana?

Let me know if you ever want to come ice fishing with me. I'll provide the Schnapps.

One blast of cool air kills these blooming cannibals far quicker than they can devour any human repast.

its effen cold in louisiana. (in the 20's)
Our bodies aren't adjusted to this kind of weather, and most people here don't own heavy coats and stuff....

I normally can make it through the winter without the heater... not this week.

-30F at my Ohio home this morning--multiple thermometers said the same thing...I live in a small valley, but, none-the-less, it has an impact on these kinds of things.

not only this, but there was winds around 10MPH....so the windchill was even colder....Brrr! It's enough to freeze my fuzzy tail off.

Its a different cold there too. Its a damp cold, and it goes right through you.

We were at -9 when I got up this am, and right now we're at 4.

Hey in Europe most places have been around -10C for the past few weeks :) Expecting winds of up to 80-90mph from the Atlantic in Scotland tomorrow. All those carbon emission taxes to combat global warming are going to look mighty silly considering the 10 year cooling phase we've been going through.

In Maryland here, and its COLD!!!! My heater is having a hard time catching up. 17 degrees here now, with windchill near zero.

The UNG (natural gas) fund is down today to its lowest it has ever been. Can you fucking believe it? Nothing is making sense anymore.

A different cold and a different hot when you have 100% humidity all the time.
I guess its similar to soaking yourself in water and then standing in the cold.

I have never understood this. I have live all over this planet in many different climates.

When it is cold, it is cold. This "damp cold" feels colder is just pussy from warm climates who think anything below zero is cold.

:p

its also hotter when its 100% humid.
You can steam vegetables outside during the summer.

wind chill makes you feel colder, so does humidity.
Normally, cold weather removes moister from the air because of dew point.
not here.

What feels colder... and what would kill you quicker.
0 degree air... or being in 0 degree water.

It was bone cold here this morning -30 and I had to go out and cut firewood. Brrrr.

I'll agree with humidity and heat (from experience, lived in Texas, NM, Phoenix & Denver, etc).

Like I said, cold and humidity, haha. I played hockey and sweated with the temperature -30F in a t-shirt and a jersey.

Delivered Newspapers with it -77F wind chill outside.
