Stumbled on this article, now i am sick

http://www.adl.org/MWD/students.asp

This has to be one of the most insidious articles I have ever read, and no, I am not anti anything ( . . . well anti corruption, but that comes in all flavors)

Call for laws that will more effectively deal with the problems caused by extremists. Contrary to what some people would have you believe, these laws need NOT be intrusive nor limit our liberties. Passing effective hate crime legislation, for instance, will help protect vulnerable groups such as minorities, religious groups and gays. .

If it wasn't insidious, it would be ridiculous. Did he just say that limiting speech doesn't intrude on liberty?

An extremist is someone whose political/ideological views are so far from the "mainstream" (i.e., what most people believe) that he or she has no realistic chance of accomplishing his or her goals using all of our normal and acceptable means of accomplishing political and ideological goals.

5. What is the "patriot" movement?

The "patriot" movement is a name given by themselves to a group of organizations and individuals who more or less share the same extreme right wing beliefs. They call themselves "patriots" to suggest that they are the people who really support America the way it was intended to be. It is a loose movement a great deal of variation, but includes white supremacists, common law activists, militia sympathizers, tax protesters, and others, many of whom use similar terms such as "constitutionalists." The primary focus of the "patriot" movement is anti-government in nature.

sheesh

Is it me or does it seem like this article does nothing but defame a zillion groups, not that i am sticking up for them, just illustrating a point, that it is written by the ANTI- defamation league. . . lol, :D guess they're the only ones allowed to defame! :D

You think that the Defamation league would have wrote that

This world gets more retarded every day :(

yeah this.

Now you know where government has been getting it's "talking points" all these years.

This was distributed as an FBI flyer ten years ago, let alone it's current manifestations.

Im not sure how to deal with these fools. It seems that fighting them openly makes them even stronger, but they have got a mainline to the .gov's brain anyway...

Its maddening.

The ADL and SPLC have certainly got government's ear.

Question is: how and why?

How? Same way that PNAC, or any other think tank does. Connections to voting blocs and lots of money.

Why? To discredit opposition to the Government by labeling them "extremists", "racists" and "anti-Semites", in exchange for access to their voting blocs and lots of money. On the flip side, the Government scratches their back and changes legislation that they want changed.

Those would be my best guesses anyway.

And check this out for disinfo:

The militia movement claims to be the "militia" mentioned in the Constitution and federal and state law, but they are not. They are private, unregulated paramilitary groups.

The labeling war has begun. He who defines the language defines the war...and wins.

First you educate by redifining the terms. you label you enemy first so he spends all his time fighting the label instead of being on offense.

We need to take back words like "patriot" and "militia" Those are great american words with real american history to them.

We need to continue to fight them with more mass marches.......we hit a nerve....they are nervous......we need to continue......and defend the language.....or we will loose more than just great words and concepts.

Man, that flyer pretty much sums up any possible human views on earth, but then puts the final demonization on all on the list by throwing in 2 or 3 Real hate groups. Kinda like throwing 12 dozen puppies in a box with 2 or 3 scorpions and saying that all in the box are the same/ WTF.

So true, so sad. Ever notice how more and more people use words without ever having looked up various definitions of the word. (or especially the root etymology) The biggest broad brush word today is "communism" - not a fan of it, just illustrating the point here, - that word means any friggin thing you want it to mean anymore!
I mean, it is the all purpose word, sorta like the "F" word. You can use it to describe any suspect political activity, any form of collusion, deceit, tyranny, any person you don't like, any leftist, . . . it is almost synonymous to democrat . . . etc, etc. when, really, IMO the only true "commies" are Monks! Now that is communism! (I always knew they were evil, leftist, democrat, tyrants infecting our schools . . . ;) )

They tend to believe that government interference usually makes matter worse, not better, and that people should be responsible for their own lives rather than depend on the government to give them everything they need. They tend to be sympathetic to such issues as the rights of property-owners, tax reduction, opposition to abortion, maintaining a competent military, and reducing the size of government. However, right-wing ideology can also tend towards authoritarianism as well; the result is fascism.

Explain to me how less government interference in peoples lives leads to fascism?? The writer here needs to review a dictionary...

"The militia movement claims to be the "militia" mentioned in the Constitution and federal and state law, but they are not. They are private, unregulated paramilitary groups."

Isn't it interesting how quickly and smoothly they transition from 'the government is the people' to 'the people are not the government'? They sure want to have it both ways, don't they?

The poorly written stuff being from the SPLC I can understand, as they are not too bright. I would think that the ADL would be well aware of the danger of a powerful state, but may be blinded to the facts here, due to the amount of influence they have. Jews used to have a great deal of influence in Germany, too.

Every time I see that old warning, I LMAO at the picture of the US Army soldier. I had no idea the 7th Division was a terrorist organization - no wonder they got deactivated.

It is one thing for people to be fooled by first rate propaganda and disinformation, but this stuff is amateurish.
