One of the nation's premier experts in numbers has a tough diagnosis for President Barack Obama's health care law.

In a report that could prove a big political headache for the administration, the Society of Actuaries estimated Tuesday that insurers will have to pay out an average of 32 percent more for claims on individual health policies under the Affordable Care Act, a cost likely to be passed on to consumers.

While some areas will see declines in medical claims costs, the report predicts the majority of states will see double-digit increases in their individual health insurance markets, where people purchase coverage directly from insurers rather than get coverage from employers.

By 2017, the estimated increase would be 62 percent for California, about 80 percent in Ohio and Wisconsin, more than 20 percent for Florida and 67 percent for Maryland. Much of the reason for the higher claims costs is that sicker people are expected to join the pool, the report said.

And another thing...who wrote the ACA? Surely the people's representatives, right? HAHAHAHAHA!

Just in time for the 2014 elections! But this is dreadful, all in the name of trying to get insurance to a small number of people.

I don't believe this is a mistake. This is exactly what Democrats want. The only way they can have control is by making people so desperately poor they are forced to clamor for more government.

And your typical liberal will read this: ...

and think, "Good! Those greedy bastards don't need all that money!" without reading this:
a cost likely to be passed on to consumers.

Heck, even if they get that far they will just clamor for Washington DC to put price caps on insurance. Problem solved in their little minds.

But why would the Democrats assume people want more government after this? Every time government has meddled in health care going back to HMOs, the costs have gone up, but the most with this. Furthermore, this law is still in everyone's mind so I think it's fair game people will want less government.

Most people didn't want this. IIRC, polls showed that about 65% of us were against it. Now that it's in effect, the loud minority will start shrieking that the Republicans are going to take away insurance from sick people and the ever important free lady pills, too.

It isn't about a majority. It's about the powerful minority.

But it's opposed in most places. People aren't going to buy into those bogus arguments, because they've been made over and over again. Look at how well the healthcare freedom acts have done. This isn't a minority against Obamacare. Exit polls nationwide show majorities that want either partial or total repeal. Less than a fourth want the law "strengthened," which I interpret to mean more government.
