Thank you DARE for reinforcing rabid, dogmatic statism.

Elementary student brings pot to school to turn in his parents

MATTHEWS, NC (WBTV) - Two parents are facing drug charges after their child took their drugs to school and told a school officer his parents were breaking the law.

WBTV is not releasing the names of the parents or the name of the school to protect the child's identity.

The 11-year-old student is in 5th grade at a an elementary school in Matthews. Police say he brought his parents' marijuana cigarettes to school when he reported them.

Matthews Police say he reported his parents after a lesson about marijuana was delivered by a police officer who is part of the D.A.R.E. program, which teaches kids about the dangers of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.

"Even if it's happening in their own home with their own parents, they understand that's a dangerous situation because of what we're teaching them," said Matthews Officer Stason Tyrrell. That's what they're told to do, to make us aware."

Tyrrell says the town's D.A.R.E. officer spends time at each of the three elementary schools in Matthews teaching kids to make the right choice when it comes to drugs.

Police arrested the child's 40-year-old father and 38-year-old mother on Thursday.

Both were charged with two misdemeanor counts each of marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They were not jailed and were released on a written promise to appear in court.

"I don't give drugs to my kids," the father told us when we went to his house.

When we asked him how his kid got ahold of his drugs, he replied, "That's no one's business."

Police say both the 11-year old and a sibling have been removed from the parents' house by social services. Police say they are staying with relatives.

I was involved with my local NORML chapter a few years back and the President of the chapter won her school's special DARE award back when she was in Elementary school.

This kid who reported his parents will probably be toking up in another half decade or so and if it is not legal already will probably become a strong advocate for legal change.

Cannabis is such a strong example of backwards statism that we find some of the most brainwashed kids actually end up becoming advocates due to the strongly held beliefs they had which disappeared in a poof of smoke after their first time toking up.

I find this article to be lol... if I had a kid, I wouldn't expose to him/her that I was doing drugs, I also would keep my stash hidden/very hard to get to. This kids parents fail.

I'm sure they are going to "help" mommy and daddy, and the child will be much better of for it.

That kid is going to smoke for the first time and then feel sorry as hell for turning in his parents... lol.

Heh, I actually spent half my day yesterday typing up quotes I had marked in Orwell's 1984.
They had played a similar trick with the instinct of parenthood. The family could not actually be abolished, and, indeed, people were encouraged to be fond of their children in almost the old-fashioned way. The children, on the other hand, were systematically turned against their parents and taught to spy on them and report their deviations. The family had become in effect an extension of the Thought Police. It was a device by means of which everyone could be surrounded night and day by informers who knew him intimately.

Come on, people - focus on the real lesson here.
KEEP YOUR KIDS AWAY FROM SCHOOL.

Correct answer. The communists and Nazis realized the importance of controlling the education of the children. The department of education has to go, and get the schools back to local control or, even better privitized.

Yep! That's what happened to me when I was old and wise enough to look objectively at the issue.

Exactly! They brainwash you into believing they're right.

Yeah, and the cig smoking parents are completely trustworthy? Man these people are hypocritical.

Yep, kids often have access to their parents cigarettes, yet I don't see cops busting down doors....

And alcohol too! Some parents allow their kids to try alcohol at a young age to take the mystery out of it and encourage safe drinking habits when the kids get older. Some churches even use real wine (rather than grape juice) for communion.

Those criminals, giving alcohol to children! /sarcasm
