Student Calls Out Teacher in Front of Class

True story about the packet fodder. This needs to be spread far and wide. He makes an excellent point. I've made the exact same argument that this kid just did many, many times.

Real talk, teacher could not come up with anything intelligent, so she just kicks him out. The "kid" is literally smarter than his teacher. Obviously more government is needed.

Nice. That teacher had no clue what to do with all of those truth bombs.

Was very powerful what he said in that video. I'm not talking about emotionally stimulating either. His method gets things done because he speaks the absolute truth and no, they can't say anything because they know he's right.

This isn't something libertarians would do anything with except use for fuel for self indulging chuckles because they want to see education fail anyhow but more and more students are reacting in this manner and is a good thing. So are others. Coughjebcough. Sorry. Had something stuck in my throat.

What is this packets business?

Students are basically copying from textbooks material in an outline form. Usually a few pages. It's not teaching at all but merely parroting what they are reading and then receive a grade essentially upon conformity.

Depends upon the class. Some are different and actually contain targeted questions like these social studies packets... http://www.fmschools.org/webpages/jworm/files/intro to social studies packet.pdf

Is just a random one I looked up.

One of the big problems is that some of the textbooks are ...oh, lets say...a bit biased. Could be said to be indoctrination depending upon political positions of the authors and the packets are often loaded questions.

Interestingly enough, we only see the packet thing in classes like Government, ecomomics and law.

This^ It's lazy teaching. Basically doing homework in class instead of engaging in real classwork.

Sounds like my Civics class from I think 11th grade. We didn't have "packets" but instead of him teaching we were just assigned to read the textbook during class and to write the answers to the questions in the text verbatim. Terribly boring. If we finished early we couldn't even do something else like read a magazine - we were told to just keep doing the same thing for the next chapter.

But I won't pretend that the teachers who presented classes orally were much better. The closest related class I had to Civics was American Government (which was presented orally) and that class was absolutely horrible. A petition was passed around to have the teacher fired and I gladly signed it. The interesting thing is that if you to her one-on-one outside of class she seemed nice but in class she was mean and boring and ineffective as a teacher.

"Packets" were basically my whole education. Slight exaggeration but very few teachers actually got up in front of class and taught. Even if they did try to actually teach I'd say it was about 50/50 at best if they were capable of doing it, I went to a pretty rough school tho so I don't blame the teachers 100% for that.

Her desk is so big it looks like a fort. Why does she need a desk so big? Why does she even have 2 big writing boards when her desk blocks the path to them and she has to go around to get to them, which I highly doubt she does.

Although I have never had something like this packets during my education, believe me they would be a much better solution to learning than hear someone talk stupid for 45 minutes.Especially when it is the first class and its 7:30 in the morning,45 minutes of pure stupidity and all you want to do is go to sleep.

A teacher friend posted this. He said, "A professor once told me, 'There are two kinds of teachers: There are those who teach their first year 30 years in a row, and then there are those who teach 30 different years.'"

"You're wasting my time," she projects.
