A so-called "Straight Pride Parade" in Boston on Saturday drew as many counterprotesters as marchers in addition to a heavy police presence.
The parade, which drew several dozen participants, kicked off at around noon to the sound of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” with some floats displaying messages of support for President Donald Trump, with signs such as "build the wall," "Trump nation" and "Blue Lives Matter."

Since plans for the event were announced in early June, organizers have come under criticism. Some critics said that parade organizers are white supremacists whose intent was to bait members of the LGBT community in one of America's most liberal cities.

The planned parade route through downtown Boston alarmed Emerson College President Lee Pelton, who earlier this week sent a campuswide message to students calling the event "a perversion" and a "desecration of beauty, truth and generosity."

Those counterprotesters must not like the idea of straight people having pride in themselves.

Yeah, it needs more men pretending to be and dressing up as women, with maybe some skinny white guys in tiny speedos.

It is true , boston has a long history of being a less than desirable place to live .

It isn't. And neither are the counter-protests. Nor are "gay pride" parades.

Indeed.

I get the idea of the "gay pride" parades... gay people have been "closeted", and the idea is (or, should be...) to get out in public and express the fact that they're really no different than anyone else other than their sexual orientation, etc.

But what ends up happening is a not small contingent of flamboyant deviants put themselves on display and seem interested in demanding endorsement (specifically chosen word) of the depravities.

Depravities and deviants, by the way, are not exclusive or inherent to homosexuals. Their are straight people into all manner of sexual stimulation that falls outside of what would typically be considered outside the norm. The difference is there's no attempt to brashly put those peculiarities on display and to attempt to normalize them.

With regard to "straight pride" efforts, I see this as just a "counter-attack" in the culture war. There is an obvious effort by certain elements within society (news media and entertainment specifically) to bring out-sized attention to the "causes" of homosexuals, transsexuals, etc., when those folks represent a rather small segment of the society at large. Some folks who populate the in-lier sections of the bell curve with regard to sexuality are I think responding as could be expected.

It's just the MacGuffin ...

I had to look this up. Nice reference. :)

This sort of goes against MAGA spirit for a more liberal, tolerant, diverse America.

Won't be surprised if MAGA inner leadership team, Trump Jr or another GOP rising star Richard Grenell marched with LGBTQ Pride to show their support.

Trump administration launches global effort to end criminalization of homosexuality
Feb. 19, 2019
U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, the highest-profile openly gay person in the Trump administration, is leading the effort, which kicks off Tuesday evening in Berlin. The U.S. embassy is flying in LGBT activists from across Europe for a strategy dinner to plan to push for decriminalization in places that still outlaw homosexuality — mostly concentrated in the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean.
“It is concerning that, in the 21st century, some 70 countries continue to have laws that criminalize LGBTI status or conduct,” said a U.S. official involved in organizing the event.

Your view of the purpose of the parade is undermined by the fact that the grand marshal is both flamboyant and a vocal advocate of homosexual pedophilia. If what you say were true, he would not have been asked to represent the movement.

Hmm... maybe you're hitting upon something there... maybe the whole response, "straight pride" parade is more about trying to articulate that most people just want to be left alone to do as they wish and not be forced to condone any particular behavior is the actual message. That would be poor messaging for the left, if that were the case tho, no?

Well said, TheCount...
