Stick a Fork in the Daily Paul ... it's done.

The Daily Paul has been my bread and butter for the last 7 years and I hate to see it go. At the same time, I'm glad to see it go since Ron is gone from politics and they are starting a new venture which I know will be more focused on Rand and the next election. The DP's main drama queen Michael Nystrom, is starting a new blog called "Popular Liberty" (in beta http://popularliberty.com/ ) and surprise it looks just like the old site so far. I really don't get the name either, its a little bland and generic. I guess traffic will pick up over here for awhile until the new site gets it kinks worked out. Godspeed ahead.

I just checked the "new" site and it's even worse that the old DailyPaul and RonPaulForums. What don't I like about these two sites?? The fact that what you post you can never archive for yourself (unless you go back and click on every one and then "save" it). I know this is not a hard feature to add because the old forum at FreeTalkLive allowed it and I know the code for that forum is many years old.

I'm even thinking I won't even bother posting at "popularliberty" because the site lacks this one basic feature. Is it wrong to want to archive things you've written over the space of several years???

He says it will be there for another week to 10 days, then it's done. Sounds like he is keeping the domain and just making the DP a static site.

"Have fun."

Have fun, Rand Paul supporters. Seriously - have fun & enjoy & learn. That is what life is all about.

For me it would only be a drag and a repeat. I've seen the movie twice. I know this one has a slightly different plot, but I'm not a big fan of the lead.

And I realize that as a result, I have to close the Daily Paul.

No hard feelings. In fact, thank you.

And best wishes.

Doesn't make sense to me. He could have shore up a lot of support for Rand.

At least make some money off it and sell it to someone who supports both Paul's.

He doesn't like Rand as much as Ron to the point where he doesn't want to run a site that would directly support him.

I'm sharing this with you because at this point I don't think he would mind. At one point in the past couple of months I was talking with him about what his thoughts were on his support of Rand Paul official campaign efforts, having worked with him in 2008 and 2012. I described to him my personal views and potential efforts regarding volunteering as a grassroots activist, and we were talking about the level of commitment required to accomplish certain things which he agreed with.

From experience I know this becomes essentially a full-time job it takes hundreds of hours to run these activities well, do the coding and integration, the promotion work and coordinate with others, and for me it basically becomes something my entire world revolves around.

This was essentially his response:

I'm not really into Rand, and I'm not interested in trying to re-live the Ron Paul experience through Rand. And I can't see my entire world revolving around Rand Paul.

...

Certainly there must be other, original, Rand friendly venues to do this? Rand remains a divisive issue on the Daily Paul, so it is just too much of a headache for me. If Rand Paul venues do not exist, this seems like the perfect opportunity for someone to create something similar to the DP for Rand.

My perspective is that Rand doesn't need the same kind of support from the grassroots that Ron did. No one had ever heard of Ron before. Rand is already famous, and has big fundraising power already. I also know that the Ron Paul campaign was annoyed by many of the grassroots efforts, and I'm sure that Rand's would be as well.

I'm not interested in getting involved this time around. Rand doesn't inspire me the way Ron did.

...

best wishes in your endeavors.

Although some may disagree with his views or what he's doing with DP (and maybe take it personally) we should show at least a level of respect (as we would expect) for his past commitment to both the 2008 and 2012 campaigns, supporting; grassroots efforts, Ron Paul, and liberty.

I could see him having issues with moderation if he keeps the site running as-is. They had issues in 2012 after the primaries were over. It is going to happen here, too, I do not envy the moderators here.

The guy is not mentally stable.

I think this is an adequate summary of why he's shutting it down.
Those still interested in a government mandated liberty want no assistance from those who see that for the oxymoron it is.
