Starbux CEO- We Are Going To Hire 10,000 Refugees

They should be free to hire whomever they want to.

“We have a long history of hiring young people looking for opportunities and a pathway to a new life around the world. This is why we are doubling down on this commitment by working with our equity market employees as well as joint venture and licensed market partners in a concerted effort to welcome and seek opportunities for those fleeing war, violence, persecution and discrimination,” Schultz wrote.

He continued: “There are more than 65 million citizens of the world recognized as refugees by the United Nations, and we are developing plans to hire 10,000 of them over five years in the 75 countries around the world where Starbucks does business.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/266465/number-of-starbucks-stores-worldwide/
This statistic shows how many Starbucks stores there are worldwide from 2003 to 2016. In 2014, there were 21,366 Starbucks stores around the world, up from 19,767 the previous year - an increase of 1,599 stores.

That would translate to less than one person hired over the next five years for every two outlets they have. Kinda like a lot of WalMart promises- mostly PR.

The grocery store near me has a Starbucks kiosk inside it and there is another Starbucks 20 feet from their door.

Women might get hot coffee in the face but I'm sure this will be every bit as successful as their program to have baristas talk to custormers about diversity.

These look like people ready for the American Dream.

Great idea! Kids from Detroit and Chicago need those jobs. Hold on, has the United Nations recognized people from Chicago and Detroit as refugees yet?

Well that video just about sums it up.

Need executive order to punish corporations whose actions go against the safety of US citizens. In the same manner that was used with the war against apartheid.

It always good to hire a workforce that deals directly with customers who don't speak the native language fluently.

Are they hiring 10K immigrants or 10K refugees? There is a difference and does Starbucks know that?

When I worked at burger king, only a handful of the kitchen staff could speak English. You would be surprised how many people who work at such establishments who never interact with paying customers.

They would probably work those job and the customer contact workers would be filled by natives.

Good for them, although I won't buy any of their products anymore. Besides-- Dunkin Donuts has better coffee, IMHO.

When I worked at McD's, pretty much every coworker was from my high-school, with the exception of 1 who had dropped out the year prior. One of the funnest jobs I've ever had.

Agree about the funnest job I ever had. But here in Nebraska, I learned how to say hamburger in Spanish while working at Burger King. Hambugesia or something. I remember Artoro and some breathtaking beautiful Spanish fly called Maria that usually worked the kitchen on Sundays. And yea, our manager had TV at the back where we watched NFL football at work. Had I earned a living wage at that job, I doubt I would have ever gone to college :(

I think everybody else that worked the register and drive thru was in high school. But the kitchen was 90% Spanish speakers.

Next he will announce that 1000 of those will be Palestinian refugees living stateless under Israeli occupation.
Unless he is another fake crier like Chuck Schumer.

Hopefully they get humiliated when one of them is a sex offender like Sen. Mendendez with a sex offender in his immigration volunteer coalition.
