Stabenow Talking "Fairness Doctrine"

SENATOR DEBBIE STABENOW (D-MI): I think it’s absolutely time to pass a standard. Now, whether it’s called the Fairness Standard, whether it’s called something else — I absolutely think it’s time to be bringing accountability to the airwaves. I mean, our new president has talked rightly about accountability and transparency. You know, that we all have to step up and be responsible. And, I think in this case, there needs to be some accountability and standards put in place.

BILL PRESS: Can we count on you to push for some hearings in the United States Senate this year, to bring these owners in and hold them accountable?

SENATOR DEBBIE STABENOW (D-MI): I have already had some discussions with colleagues and, you know, I feel like that’s gonna happen. Yep.

Accountability? What does that even mean? And speaking of transparency:

This will signal the end of AM radio and growth for the Sirius/XM. Not that I agree with the conservative host they are entertaining and Rush and the rest move to satellite it will kill most all AM except maybe for some of the sports/talk stations.

AM was for the most part dead 20 years ago until the talk format saved it. Anyone remember AM 'stereo' in the mid-80's? Of course the death of all these AM stations will be at the cost of thousands of mostly 'blue-collar' type jobs from board operators to traffic reporters.

Unlike FM, Many of the AM stations are still family or small business that work with local governments, merchants and the public to provide a true community service.

This bill is useless with today's media choices except for the fact is that it will eventually lead to silence all dissent. This bill will enrich the host with huge new satellite contracts and put many others out of work.

Maybe they can find jobs laying concrete with money from the Stimulus Work of Obama Program or will be later know as SWOP. The plan that swops money from taxpayers and gives it to the Democrats special interest groups.
