Am I right? As I read through the majority of the posts on these forums there is an alarming trend of intolerance for us good ol states rights conservatives. I believe that a constitutional republic is what was intended for this country and believe that a return to the ideals of such as limited government and Federalism is exactly what this country needs, but the libertarian occult nature of these forums is out of control. Almost enough to turn a FredHead convert away from this movement. What gives?

Conservatives are prominent and beloved here. We even have a few liberals.

Authoritarianism will not be well-received, and justifying a law by saying the founding fathers wanted it that way probably won't fly.

As for hostility, welcome to the internet!

We're fighting years of brainwashing that centralized control is a good thing. We can't be soft and do it.

Sorry maybe I was a little unclear..... I am not new to the internet, nor to hostility, I attended one of the most intolerant liberal ivory tower law schools in the western united states, rather my point was that if the idea is to attract liberty minded individuals to the cause perhaps trying to hammer libertarian positions and barr/baldwin candidacies might not be the best way. Well, this site somehow became more of a support group for such people--and a way to share information and digest it before taking it to the streets.

First and foremost, the internet is not a friendly place. Anonymity causes schmucks like me to act like, well, schmucks.

But conservatives are a major part of this movement. What I think you are seeing is young people who share your basic values have a tendency to identify as libertarian as opposed to conservative, since they have known only the neoconservative Republican garbage during their lifetimes.

The labels aren't terribly important, I think. I myself migrate amongst the terms "classical liberal" "minarchist" and "libertarian", and "true conservative" is also applicable.

Meh.

Ron Paul himself is a good ol' states rights conservative. There is only a small 'squeaky wheel' minority here who are not really states rights people...don't let yourself be driven off just because they make so much noise. :)

Hang in there. I'm a traditional conservative myself.... a Goldwater-Conservative. There are a lot of libertarians on this board right now, but the vast majority of them believe in states' rights too and also very much want the Constitution reinstated. Also, remember that traditional conservatives have a lot of libertarian in them too, which is probably why many referred to themselves as libertarian-conservatives.

We are an opinionated bunch here, so you'll have to have a thick skin, but you are very welcome. :)

Thanks Gunny Freedom, that is a fair answer.

Kludge, care to clarify before I assume you are equalizing authoritarianism to something I said in my original post here?

Both conservatism and liberalism have a mix of authoritarianism and libertarianism in them.

While we have many conservatives, I don't think we have any fascists, so fascist ideas probably won't be welcomed here. I'm unfamiliar with your post history - I was just speaking in general.

You are kidding me right?

I'm the only damn liberal left on these forums.. it's infested with conservatives, anarchists, and right wing theocrats.

This forum goes through stages and cycles like everything else. The Barr/Baldwin Bashing Brigades came out in force when RP suspended his campaign and it seems we are nearing the end of that cycle. While the majority of us seem be small L libertarians, most of us are registered GOP, who want to return the party to it's stated platform and resume constitutional gov't.

It, also, should be noted that we are a political group who has achieved remarkable successes, because of that we have a following of goons whose sole purpose is to make us look like kooks.
