This forum goes through stages and cycles like everything else. The Barr/Baldwin Bashing Brigades came out in force when RP suspended his campaign and it seems we are nearing the end of that cycle. While the majority of us seem be small L libertarians, most of us are registered GOP, who want to return the party to it's stated platform and resume constitutional gov't.

It, also, should be noted that we are a political group who has achieved remarkable successes, because of that we have a following of goons whose sole purpose is to make us look like kooks.

You mean the preamble?

"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."


I'd argue it's not really a clause but a general statement of purpose, the rules and protections that follow it are the entirety of its powers toward that purpose unless amended to include new powers previously retained by the people.

I believe that a constitutional republic is what was intended for this country and believe that a return to the ideals of such as limited government and Federalism is exactly what this country needs, but the libertarian occult nature of these forums is out of control. Almost enough to turn a FredHead convert away from this movement. What gives?

Its easier to see it, when you aren't in it.
The GOP is fractured, but that isn't talked about.
The Dems were fractured, but a lot of the southern dems, started voting GOP in the 90's. That swung the GOP into majority.
A lot of Dems switched over the GOP, hijacking a good platform and purpose.
Now the GOP is fractured.. and the proof?

If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals — if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is. Now, I can’t say that I will agree with all the things that the present group who call themselves Libertarians in the sense of a party say, because I think that like in any political movement there are shades, and there are libertarians who are almost over at the point of wanting no government at all or anarchy.

Anybody who is for reducing the size of government is welcome here. Some of us are more "hardcore" libertarians, however I feel that we should all get along since we are working for the same goal. I'm an anarcho-capitalist working with this movement even if it doesn't totally mesh with my ideas. Lets get to more limited government first and then from there some of us will continue pressing for even more limited government.
