Smug Walter Block, EPJ outwitted by Rand Paul

Smug Walter Block writes on September 6:

"I assume Rand Paul will not only vote against bombing Syria, but be one of the Senate leaders for a “no” vote. But what about Mitch McConnell? Right now, Rand Paul supports his re-election. But suppose Senator McConnell votes in favor of bombing Syria, or abstains. What, then, will be Rand Paul’s decision as to whether or not to continue his support for McConnell? I hope and trust that Rand will then withdraw his support for that candidacy. Interesting times lie ahead of us."

Of course, we all know that Rand Paul lobbied Mitch McConnell, and then McConnell announced on the senate floor that he would vote 'no' on the war upon Syria. Interesting, but McConnell was the ONLY legislative leader, democrat or republican, to be a no vote on Syria.

We all expect a prompt apology from smug Walter Block and the EPJ.

It is a given that McConnell is going to vote how Rand votes. He's trying to get elected in a state that is absolutely tired of him.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell looks the worst right now, having stayed on the sidelines of this debate until it was clear military action wasn’t immanent, and then declaring, unbelievably, that he opposed a Syria strike. Everyone knows McConnell would be gung-ho behind a strike against Syria but for two problems: a Tea Party primary challenger named Matt Bevin and a president named Barack Obama.

In EPJ world

Alan Grayson, Ralph Nader, 9-11 Truthers, JFK conspiracy theorists, and Jesse Ventura are great friends to libertarians.

Rand Paul and Milton Friedman equal Satan's little statist helpers. Their pollution of the libertarian message is the only thing standing between the status quo and anarcho bliss.

Well to be fair, Friedman, was a Chicago monetarist.

But yes, outside of that, you're right, EPJ is completely nonrelevent and Wenzel just seeks to divide the movement.

The hell "we all" do. Speak for your own damn self - especially when you're going to put your foot in your mouth.

There is nothing "smug" in anything Walter Block said, and he has nothing to apologize for here.

Or perhaps you do not understand plain English - and the nature of what it means to "suppose" something?

It's always easier to claim to be more pure when all you are is a talker. Rand Paul actually worked and got elected and is making a difference in Congress.

The presumption is that winning political elections is all that matters.

That said, much as I cringe at times, I still like and respect Rand.

I like Walter Block but EPJ represents the hipster libertarians that always want to be the oppressed minority. It's not that libertarians aren't that but they actually want it to be that way.

They sit on the bench pointing fingers at the ones at least trying.

"You're a fraud!"

"You're a poser!"

"You're a traitor!"

"Sellout!"

No, I think the point was that it is easy to talk. I mean just look at Ron Paul, even he was more reserved in what he said or did when he was in office.

I don't agree with him on everything, but Walter Block is one of the best. Rand Paul doesn't hold a candle to him when it comes to libertarian purity.

Rand Paul doesn't hold a candle to me when it comes to libertarian purity.

But all I have to do is be a retired fisherman on a backwater dead end street and all you have to do is run your 18 year old mouth.
Walter Block will never be elected for any public office anywhere for anything.Like you and I,he can say anything he damn well pleases and not have to worry about any electoral consequences.

EPJ hipster libertarians? Idk, maybe more radical an-cap than anything? But lewrockwell.com is much friendlier to Rand than EPJ is. I think it's more a personal grudge than anything. Wenzel hates Cato and Reason more than Rand...

I just wish there was video of that great speech at the NY Fed

I never denied this. I'm defending Block moreso than attacking Rand.

Incidentally, the only LRC post I can remember that was positive on Rand was by... Walter Block...
