Sign waving is worthless, become a precinct leader and canvas.

I don't agree,

I have been to several and have worked out great. Especially the Rudy rallys. The one in Lakeland most people that came out to see Rudy said they were just there to here him and see what he had to say. They said they were still undecided. At which point I handed them a slim jim and told them about Ron Paul.

For you to say it is worthless is just BS on your part. I am already a precinct captain and I have been canvassing. However every precinct doesn't have a captain and this is one more way to reach people. Name recognition will help for the election.

I disagree, I think sign waiving has it's place in the grassroots campaign. It's fun, relieves some of the stress of campaigning and shows the public just how enthusiastic we are. I think it could be improved by putting some of his stances on issues on the signs rather than just waiving a "Ron Paul for President" sign.
Though, I do believe there should be more emphasis placed on canvassing and setting up booths at local events.

STOP SIGN WAVING AT RUDY EVENTS jeez! total waste of energy FOCUS on UNDECIDED voters. Come on lets get focused!

canvass til the sun goes down, THEN if there is an event sign wave near it.
I think sign waving can be effective if you can pick a spot where you can hand out slim jims, also it is good to feel like you are part of something and sign waves are a good chance to network with other RP supporters.

Canvassing IS key for votes, but sign-waving IS good for morale-which is just as important right now

Not true. As much as I don't particularly like crashing another candidates party, the people who have, have been successful.

A few people from our Meetup went when he was here and there were actually lots of undecideds there who were just coming so they could say they did.

One of our guys had two old ladies walk up to him and ask who Ron Paul was... he explained, gave them slim-jims, etc... One said "Oh, is this Rand's daddy?", He said "uhm, yes ma'am it is" she said "really!? I just LOVE Rand and I LOVE his dad!!!" He's running for President?!?". More than likely she'll vote for him, she was undecided, just came for the sight, but she had NO idea he was running for President.

WE know he his... WE can't fathom how someone wouldn't, but the truth is some people still don't and while we're doing our best to canvass, we won't get every door by next week. So whatever we do IS worth it.

Sign waving is nice, but we're past that now. Be a precinct leader.

It's nice that you reached a little old lady at a Rudy event, but if there were 10 people there for 2 hours....you could have made a lot of phone calls in that time period.

The best part about the sign waving is the camaraderie. Get together with your MeetUp members and have a precinct captain phone party.

I love how everyone ASSUMES they know everything.

There weren't 10 people there. There were 2 there from 7am to 9am and a different 2 from 9-10. We aren't stupid like most of you here imply. Nobody can make calls at 7 in the morning anyway.

ALL OF US are precinct leaders. Some people need to get off their high horses and stop assuming things and telling other people what they're doing wrong when they don't even know what they're doing. That's my entire point. How dare anyone here judge the efforts or success of someone else's work.

Don't you realize how positively arrogant it is to tell other people what to do? We're all capable of making our own decisions, we don't need anyone else to tell us what to do or what we're doing wrong. We have jobs, kids, and other things that need to be taken care of. We're doing our BEST. We've drained our bank accounts, walked road after road, stood on the sides of the highways, passed out at least 20,000 slim-jims... you have no basis on which to direct us in what we're doing.

Ron Paul on Overpasses

I think 90% of all the people I've met who know about Ron Paul first learned about him by the banners people put up on overpasses around the country. This is an incredibly efficient advertising method.

Sign waving is simply self-gratifying for the sign wavers. It's a good pick-me-up for existing supporters, but doesn't get any votes come election day.

exactly we should take all signs down, stop buying them or waiving them anywhere. So what if it works. Are you guys serious?

Signs on roads are read by most anyone, you want to know why? WE ARE NOSEY people who like to know everything.

Why do protests work? because there are PEOPLE supporting a cause and just like a car accident people will slow down and say "who is ron paul?" and then go look for themselves.

I think being a precinct captain is great BUT 9 out of 10 people will not walk their precinct and simply say they did already. All we need to do is do something just go and do something

precinct captain
just walk the neighborhood anyways
sign holding
call your precinct
donate to the main campaign
donate to some grassroots deals like the blimp, call4paul or something else
toss a yard sign in your grass and a banner in your front window
put a bumper sticker on your vehicle

Insteading of wasting time saying this works this doesn't, the great thing is at least they are doing SOMETHING which is better then many can say.

Sign waving is a ton of fun AND can get the media there for some free advertising as well. It works and so does door to door and calling people. They all work......

agreed, RP signs kept showing up at Mccain events in NH and became a running joke in voting circles :(

do you want to be a JOKE or win an election!

Wow... have you talked to people at a Rudy event? Most are undecided and only there to hear him speak. I have swayed many by being at these rallys

I don't know how you all do your sign waving. At ours, some people hand out lit and DVDs, and bumper stickers while cars are stopped at the lights. They run up and down the rows. Often a table is brought at a side walk corner where more lit, buttons, bumper stickers, DVDs and even T-shirts are given out to passer bys. Some people pull over and park to get stuff and ask questions. Some people want in on the action and end up joining the meetup group. There are always a lot of American flags to show Paul supporters are true American Patriots. We smile and wave and have a lot fun. Enthusiam is contagious. All of the honking amplifys the energy rushing behind Paul.

The Bradenton/sarsota/venice groups have been in the local News pappers a hand ful of times for it and so have the Clear water/St. Petes groups.

Sign waves can get local press also!!!

They can be done effectively.

Canvassing is great too.

People should do what they most feel like doing for the cause.

Force and pressure and limitations just turn potential activists off, more then on.

Continue putting out ideas everyone, let others know what you are doing, how it's working and leave it to the members to decide what they want to use and do. We'll ultimately get more well rounded action from every angle that way.
