Unfortunately this recent news would put the Obama healthcare surge on the back burner an d move Yemen, Nigeria and Phillipines to to the front burners.

Nigerian man charged in Christmas airliner attack

By LARRY MARGASAK and COREY WILLIAMS, Associated Press Writers Larry Margasak And Corey Williams, Associated Press Writers – 39 mins ago

DETROIT – A 23-year-old Nigerian man who claimed ties to al-Qaida was charged Saturday with trying to destroy a Detroit-bound airliner, just a month after his father warned U.S. officials of concerns about his son's religious beliefs.

The suspect claimed to have received training and instructions from al-Qaida operatives in Yemen, a law enforcement official said on the condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.

Aides to President Barack Obama are pondering how terror watch lists are used after the botched attack, according to officials who described the discussions Saturday on the condition of anonymity so as not to pre-empt possible official announcements.

Rep. Jane Harman, D-Calif., chairman of a House Homeland Security subcommittee, said there were "strong suggestions of a Yemen-al Qaida connection and an intent to blow up the plane over U.S. airspace." Several officials said they have yet to see independent confirmation.

Some airline passengers traveling Saturday felt the consequences of the frightening Christmas Day attack. They were told that new U.S. regulations prevented them from leaving their seats beginning an hour before landing.

The Justice Department charged that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab (OO-mahr fah-ROOK ahb-DOOL-moo-TAH-lahb) willfully attempted to destroy or wreck an aircraft; and that he placed a destructive device in the plane.

U.S. District Judge Paul Borman read Abdulmutallab the charges in a conference room at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Mich. where he is being treated for burns.

Are Obama aides really looking into this now? Shouldn't this have been looked at before the surge planning?

Another State intervention to try and fix the previous State intervention ad infinitum.

Sell the masses fear and you will have absolute power.

No, this shows irrefutably that we need to invade Iran.

By having 100K troops in Iraq and now building 100K troops in Afghanistan now to surround Iran from both sides? If that's the case, who are running Obama's interventionist policy, America firsters or Israel firsters?

If Afghan troop surge is for surrounding Iran really under the guise of fighting almost non-existent Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, this is a troubling development for US tax payers.

Obama doesn't seem like the kind of person who would say NO to an easy route to power.

I think we should surprise everyone and invade Iceland.

Was it CNN report that said that current focus was to confuse everyone to keep them guessing what we're doing, surprise is below that somewhere.

If the objective was to befuddle, then it was mission accomplished.

On one Air Canada flight from Toronto to New York's LaGuardia Airport, crew told passengers before departure they were not allowed to use any electronic devices - even iPods - and would not be able to access their personal belongings during the one-hour flight.

An hour before a US Air flight from Manchester, England, to Philadelphia landed, flight attendants removed blankets and told passengers to keep their "hands visible," said passenger Walt Swanson of Cumbria.

On Continental Flight 1788 from Cancun, Mexico, to Newark, three airport security agents frisked everyone at the gate, including babies. On the plane, the crew announced the toilets would be locked for the last hour of the flight and passengers would not be able eat, drink, or use electronic devices.

One of the restrictions that most annoyed airlines was an order to shut off in-flight entertainment systems on international flights. Airlines objected, and the TSA apparently relented and left it to the discretion of crews.

Meanwhile, Canadian officials have banned most carry-on luggage for US-bound passengers.

bring ALL the troops home; no more AF-PAk, Korea, Germany, UK, and the other 120 countries.

I'd be real happy if they sent around 250 million citizens permanently abroad to control foreign peoples:D I wouldn't be one of them.
