Should it be "Rand Paul 2016" or "Lamar Smith is a Commie" on my 8x44 billboard? IDEAS?

Where are you located? Before 2016 comes 2014. I don't know if you are in an area where Tom Davis for Senate - defeat Lindsay Graham would be helpful. But it is a great contribution, whatever you end up deciding.

He is in Lamar Smith's district in Texas.

I'm in LAMAR SMITH's district ---- But like a previous poster said -- his seat is sealed. Gerrymandered his ass a life position. Not to mention that even my tea Party is ga-ga over his marxist/fascist ways. They love him. I hate him. I'm just trying to get a head start. I haven't made my decision yet --- but before you leave this thread what is your opinion?

Who or What organization or what great quotes or philosophies like the "non-aggression principle" , ETC ---> will do the most good for freedom. Thats the point of my billboard. Could I be educating folks for 2 years on voluntaryism, then put the Rand banner up in 2014? This is my dilemma. It would cost me 2x more money unless I made a chip-in.

Well, Ron just gave a powerful speech today, to my mind, and if I had a truck billboard I'd probably take a quote from that, or something else he said which powerfully speaks to me, rather than a billboard four years in advance of a campaign. But that would be MY billboard, not your billboard. And were it Ron running in 2016, I'd probably not mind it being four years in advance, so it comes back to being YOUR billboard...

Ron just gave a powerful speech today

from that speech you might want to consider the connotations of:

Why are there not more individuals who seek to intellectually influence others to bring about positive changes
than those who seek power to force others to obey their commands?

in reference to the usage of $ to buy billboard space.

How might you use the billboard to enlighten; to intellectually draw people to the liberty movement?

I remember your mobile signs from 2007 Mike. Gage took a beautiful picture of Rand that is billboard worthy. Passersby could connect a face with a name.

Good question. Thats what I was hoping the forum would be discussing. I have thought of many ideas - From founding father quotes to Ron Paul quotes to everything in between. And From Oath Keepers to Campaign for liberty. And of course Rand Paul. I'm leaning towards putting an educational message for the first two years, then Rand Paul 2016 for the last. It'll cost more but I'll deal with that then.

fixed it - In a fast, but not so good way...

Yes I agree, my first draft had a picture . I couldn't make it look right. I just made those to garner attention. To add a picture I will have to redesign the colors to make it work --- not to mention a that I need a better pic. That Gage pic does look good.

The #1 responsibility for each of us is to change ourselves with hope that others will follow. This is of greater importance than working on changing the government; that is secondary to promoting a virtuous society. If we can achieve this, then the government will change.

also from that speech

Still brainstorming...How about a Rand Paul liberty quote that inspires folks to think about individual freedoms? This way we are killing two birds with one stone.

  1. Promoting Rand Paul
  2. Promoting the ideas of liberty

keep the right side, replace the left with a ben franklin portrait. Add, liberty/security quote.

Anybody else want a stab at it? What is the most influential and most effective founder quote that supports liberty action?

edit fixed pic

IMO the Oathkeepers idea is where I'd put my vote. From everything I've read about them, it seems like a great organization, and one that needs exposure. Every ex military I talk to in my store gets a mention of the OK'rs and they all seem very interested in checking them out, so just imagine the exposure they'd get from a moving billboard. :D When it gets closer to upcoming primary season, then the Rand idea would be a better idea, it's just too soon for that to have the impact you'd want it to have.

Very nice. At the very least someone needs to snatch that for bumper stickers.

I might go white and all caps on the "RAND PAUL 2016"; might show up better. Or redRAND whitePAUL blue2016.

Perhaps that makes a great "format". Using a format might broaden horizons a bit.

sorry bad structure to follow, stream of thought:

Break up the situation into 3 sections 8x8 28x8 and 8x8.
you keep rand on the right and change the lettering and the portrait on the left.
Then all you're really changing is a much smaller (8x8) banner on the left.
The lettering you can just black out with paint and order new (relatively cheap) white vinyl lettering;
you could go total crafty cheap and make lettering stencils. http://www.stencilplanet.com/customletteringstencils.aspx
That might give you the budget to change it more often.
The 28 x 8 could be the side of the rig painted black, two cheap 10x15 painting canvases from home depot painted black, 7 sheets of cdx plywood, etc.
Also, you are reducing your color printing to 2 8x8's on each end of the rig with 28 feet of blank banner with text.
Keeping with the double ended 8x8 banner concept with 28x8 of cheap editable space in the middle might allow for a quick change up for Lamar.

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
Thomas Jefferson

All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.

Government has no other end, but the preservation of property.
John Locke

That the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others.
[T]he individual is not accountable to society for his actions, in so far as these concern the interests of no person but himself.

This billboard will not be driven around -- its capable of that - but too expensive unless there is a rally in town etc. This billboard is double sided but as it sits on my property only one side has good visibility. Otherwise an OK's sign would be a no brainer for me. --> However, I do have a barn roof. I'll give that a thought or two.
