Seven bikers killed in upstate NH crash

New Hampshire officials released the names of seven bikers killed Friday evening after their group collided with a pickup truck towing a flatbed trailer.
The victims were identified as Michael Ferazzi, 62, of Contoocook, N.H.; Albert Mazza, 49, of Lee, N.H.; Desma Oakes, 42, of Concord, N.H.; Aaron Perry, 45, of Farmington, N.H.; Daniel Pereira, 58, of Riverside, R.I.; and Joanne and Edward Corr, both 58, a husband and wife from Lakeville, Mass. All were members or supporters of the Marine JarHeads, a motorcycle club made up of Marines and their spouses.
Soon after the names were made public, New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu ordered all flags on public buildings and grounds in the state to be flown at half-staff from dawn to dusk Monday.
"Friday’s tragic accident in Randolph has struck our state and our citizens in a profound way," Sununu said in a statement.

Dartanyan Gasanov, the owner of Westfield Transport, told The Boston Globe he planned to talk to investigators Monday and has been unable to reach Zhukovskyy, who has not been answering phone calls. The Globe, citing U.S. Transportation Department records, reported that the company has not had any crashes resulting in deaths or injuries in at least the past two years.

I think TheTexan has a patent one one of those.

I've been trying to market it to the NFL but so far no luck. Maybe Brett Favre can speak to them about the importance of helmet safety.

Who was perhaps driving drunk on a load of vodka..................
The driver of a pickup truck in a fiery collision on a rural New Hampshire highway that killed seven motorcyclists was charged Monday with seven counts of negligent homicide, and records show he was stopped on suspicion of drunken driving last month and in 2013.Volodymyr Zhukovskyy, 23, was arrested Monday morning at his home in West Springfield, Massachusetts, the New Hampshire attorney general's office said. He will be arraigned Tuesday in Lancaster, New Hampshire, authorities said.
He was handed over to New Hampshire authorities after a brief court appearance Monday in Springfield, Massachusetts. Zhukovskyy looked down at his feet as he was led into the courtroom with his hands cuffed behind his back.
Connecticut prosecutors say he was arrested May 11 in an East Windsor Walmart parking lot after failing a sobriety test. Officers had responded to a complaint about a man who was revving his truck engine and jumping up and down outside the vehicle.
Zhukovskyy's lawyer in that case, John O'Brien, said he denies being intoxicated and will fight the charge. Zhukovskyy refused to submit to a blood test, prosecutors said.
Additionally, Zhukovskyy was arrested on a drunken driving charge in 2013 in Westfield, Massachusetts, state motor vehicle records show. He was placed on probation for one year and had his license suspended for 210 days, The Westfield News reported.
Records from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration indicate that the company Zhukovskyy was driving for, Westfield Transport, has been cited for various violations in the last two years, MassLive.com reported .
There were two instances where drivers were in possession of narcotic drugs. Other violations including a driver without a commercial driver's license, one for speeding and another for defective brakes.
The company did not respond to repeated requests for comment.

JarHeads president Manny Ribeiro, who survived the crash, said the group had just finished dinner and was heading to a fundraiser at an American Legion post in nearby Gorham. A total of 21 riders and 15 motorcycles were in the group. Mazza, who was riding next to Ribeiro, was among those hit by the truck.
"It was just an explosion ... with parts and Al and everything flying through the air," he said. "He turned hard left into us and took out pretty much everyone behind me. The truck and trailer stayed attached and that is why it was so devastating ... because the trailer was attached and it was such a big trailer, it was like a whip. It just cleaned us out."
After the crash, Ribeiro recalled seeing Zhukovskyy "screaming and running around" in the middle of the road before he was taken away by authorities. Motorcycles and bodies were everywhere, he said, and several people were yelling at Zhukovskyy, demanding to know what he had just done.

Still no word on his citizenship/immigration status though.

I'm guessing he was violently correcting to avoid the oncoming traffic and his trailer whipsawed.

What the fuck is up with that truck drivers name? It's so weird and complex that I can't even tell what part of the world you would ever hear a name like that.

Very possible. How much experience did this kid have pulling a trailer?

And looking at his cell phone before it happened is possible.

I would rule out alcohol. If that was involved, it would be a major part of the story.

Terrorist? Highly unlikely, but you never know.

Could be drugs.

It looks very much like a potential hit with him chosen as a patsy who can be discarded or rewarded after serving the time for an "accident".

Ukrainian national holding a green card that should have deported after larceny and multiple DUIs.

Just doing those jobs Americans won't do.

Truck driver in fatal New Hampshire motorcycle crash had drunken driving history

SPRINGFIELD — The 23-year-old West Springfield truck driver charged with killing seven bikers Friday in New Hampshire had two drunken driving arrests — one just last month — along with a drug conviction on his extensive record and is now facing the prospect of deportation proceedings, court records show.

Volodymyr Zhukovskyy, a Ukrainian national with a U.S. green card, is due to be arraigned Tuesday in New Hampshire on seven counts of negligent homicide in the weekend motorcycle disaster — a crash his father said occurred on his son’s third day on the job.

“I’m sorry for the families,” the defendant’s father, also named Volodymyr Zhukovskyy, told the Herald Monday.

The father said they are from the Ukraine and his son recently got permanent resident status in the United States. The younger Zhukovskyy’s court file includes a newly filed June 23 letter from an ICE deportation officer requesting details of his 2017 heroin and cocaine convictions.

The younger Zhukovskyy also has a lengthy driving record, including a drunken driving conviction in 2013 and an arrest after failing a field sobriety test last month in a Walmart parking lot in East Windsor, Conn. He was due back in court for that case Wednesday.

When asked why Zhukovskyy still had an active Massachusetts driver’s license before the crash, MassDOT spokeswoman Jacquelyn Goddard said in a statement: “The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles is looking into this matter.” His Massachusetts license was only suspended Monday because he was deemed an “immediate threat,” records show, despite his second OUI arrest on May 11.

Massachusetts State Police arrested Zhukovskyy Monday morning on a fugitive from justice charge out of New Hampshire. He was turned over to N.H. law enforcement officials.

State police also confiscated “wax packets containing a residue suspected of being heroin,” when they arrested Zhukovskyy Monday. State police said additional charges may be filed if they test positive for heroin.

His hearing Tuesday is in Coos County Superior Court in Lancaster, N.H. — about 15 miles from the site of the deadly crash in Randolph, N.H.

Donald W. Frank, public defender for Zhukovskyy, said the fatal crash “is tragic for the families involved … it’s tragic for his family, too.”

The Friday crash killed seven bikers from a Massachusetts veterans group called the Jarheads Motorcycle Club. Killed were Jo-Ann and Edward Corr, both 58, of Lakeville; Michael Ferazzi, 62, of Contoocook, N.H.; Albert Mazza, 59, of Lee, N.H.; Desma Oakes, 42, of Concord, N.H.; Aaron Perry, 45, of Farmington, N.H.; and Daniel Pereira, 58, of Riverside, R.I.

Zhukovskyy was driving a 2016 Dodge 2500 pickup truck towing a car-hauling trailer on Route 2 west about 6:30 p.m. Friday, authorities said, when it struck the motorcyclists heading east. He was working for Westfield Transport out of Springfield. Efforts to reach company officials were unsuccessful.

Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles records show that Zhukovskyy’s license had been temporarily suspended shortly after a 2013 arrest in Westfield because he was deemed an “immediate threat.” The Westfield News reported in 2014 that Zhukovskyy was placed on probation for one year and had his license suspended for 210 days in that case.
