Senator Mike Lee's Facebook post about Rand is going viral

And all of the media I am reading today is spinning this filibuster as a complete failure.

Which falls right into the hands of Rand's whole message...

The Right and the Left have this "unholy alliance" to keep to the same pile of SHIT going with zero change.

RAND FOR CHANGE 2016

Time to co-opt that "change" slogan.

And approaching three million views... I believe this is the shortest full link (unparsed):

Can anyone give me a possible reason Senator Lee's Facebook video hasn't been shared repeatedly on Rand's campaign Facebook page, or a reason the above link hasn't been tweeted repeatedly via the campaign Twitter account? It seems to me like a huge missed opportunity.

Oh, wait. Have I heard something about not using Senate floor speeches to campaign? Can anyone give me the details and history of that rule?

Yes, I think that's the issue.

In Mike Lee's Facebook post he tagged Rand's official "Senator Rand Paul" page, not the "Rand Paul" page he's using for the campaign.

Senate rules say you can't use any video from Senate proceedings as part of a campaign.

"Use of any duplication of television coverage of the proceedings of the Senate for campaign purposes is strictly prohibited," said Brian Hart, a spokesman for Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Missouri, the chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, citing the standing rules of the Senate.

It's not a campaign ad, but sharing it on the Facebook page he's using for his campaign might still violate that rule.

As more ppl wake up (hehe) now, numbers rise more quickly!

4.29 Mio views

The great part is if someone watches that, facebook lists 3 more suggested Rand videos.

I cant believe it...

4.8 Mio. Views
76.2 k likes

(btw isnt it a bit unusual that a post gets "so few" likes compared to the shares?)

No, that's normal. Two reasons.

One is that each person can only like the post once, but you can share it many times.

The other is that if you share the video, and someone likes your shared post... it won't be added to those public numbers as a like on Mike Lee's post.

But if someone shares the video off of your share, it does count in those numbers that are shown publicly on Lee's page.

You're right that the video probably has more likes than shares in total, it's just the way Facebook calculates the numbers to display. If you were an admin of the page you can see the total amount of likes on shares and it would be a lot higher than 76k.

I understand now, thanks for the info!

Update:

5.25 Mio Views

Ok cool. I had to read what I wrote a few times to make sure I was able to follow it myself, lol.

Wow, these numbers are ridiculous. And in 24 hours. This isn't a music video. It's not some funny viral video. This is someone speaking in the Senate.

I wonder what portion of the people watching and sharing this have ever even seen 3 minutes of a Senate speech before.

what are 'other concerns' that Rand is talking about?...i see comments that it means taking money from SSI to SSdisability. If so, why is that an issue? I have concerns that it is being shifted to warfare, or pork projects...

My father worked for Social Security for several decades and he says that this is a common practice. The problem with this is that in addition to rampant fraud, it cuts against the primary function of the program as a pension, and is one of the major contributing factors for the entire program being insolvent.

Given how badly the average American takes care of themselves, this will further hasten the eventual collapse of this system.

This video is taking off...I have several friends on FB that have never showed Rand any love that are sharing this video.

From Mike Lee's Senate.gov page:

According to the Social Security Trustees, the Social Security Disability Insurance program – or SSDI – is scheduled to run out of money in 2016. Which means that, without serious reform, disability benefits would be slashed, across the board, by nearly 20 percent.

Under the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015, the bankruptcy deadline of SSDI would be pushed off for an additional 6 years, until 2022.

But here’s the kicker: it would do so by raiding the Social Security Trust Fund, to the tune of $150 billion.

That’s right: our grand, bipartisan solution to the impending insolvency of our nation’s largest disability insurance program amounts to stealing $150 billion from our nation’s largest retirement insurance program.

So yeah, SSDI is about to run out of money and instead of reforming it they're just going to take money from the SS retirement fund. And then say, "Yay, we came together and fixed the problem." But that just creates a bigger hole later in SS.

This bipartisan (all Democrats + RINOs) Budget bill has all sorts of stuff in it - months in the making. Social Security includes payroll reallocation change for 3 years temporarily, but goes back down to current levels on January 1, 2019 (sure to happen), and, the selling of petroleum reserves now that the price per barrel is low.
