If you have never lived in the Carolinas you have never experienced our secondary car color. There is your primary color, then there is "Pollen Yellow." It's as natural a phenomenon as the sun rising.
Never lived in the Carolinas, so I am guessing this is a normal occurance in the area? I still think collecting testimony from the neighbours would have been very helping in quieting her suspicions. Because if it happened to other people in the area then it couldn't have been a targetted hate crime on her..
Then again, if this is as common as you say then I can understand why the police did not take her seriously at all. Its like a fish complaining that someone spat on her because she was black
