Rush: Ron Paul not afraid to go on "Meet the Press"

This will be a very tough interview. Russert was tough on Giuliani and Romney, but drawing out three democrats saying they couldn't guarantee withdrawing all troops from Iraq by 2013, was unbelievable.

Ron Paul will do just fine! He has nothing to hide.:)

I think the interview will be great. Ron Paul can hold his own and I think it won't be as bad for Paul because he doesn't have the skeletons the other guys do.

It's true that something like what yankee_blue posted won't happen to RP, but it would be nice if RP could answer all of the questions really well.

Topics I hope Ron will prepare for
- North American Union, why he wants us out of the UN
- global warming
- earmarks

The racist accusations will be no problem, and I hope Russert will be fair enough to let Ron speak about the war. In 2002 Ron spoke in Congress several times to warn about the problems a war with Iraq would bring, and I hope Russert will give him credit for that.

I hope somebody tells RP how the website of the government of Alberta, or another Canadian province, mentions the NAFTA Superhighway in case Russert tries to say no plans ever existed.

The beauty of the Meet The Press interview is that Ron Paul handles tough interviewers better than anybody. An advantage he has over the other candidates is that he knows all of his views inside and out because they are his real views, not something a PR rep told him to say.

Good point, no need to check poll numbers.

Great news! I never thought Rush Limbaugh would ever say something helpful about Ron Paul!

Someone has to convince Dr. Paul to sleep for an entire day prior to this event. He can't be all worn out and baggy-eyed for this opportunity. I realize there's not much time left but from what I understand, this is his best media opportunity yet, right?

I totally agree! This is probably going to be the most important interview since the start of the campaign. Image and perception are sooo important. He needs to look rested and he needs to look happy. I know he has everything else covered. :)

I heard this, trust me, it wasnt helpful. He said it in a very mocking tone, as if Ron Paul was lapping it up because hes desperate for the attention. Rush is a hardcore neocon, although I happen to be listening to his show right now and I do agree with some of what he happens to say (and he likes to subtley attack Huckabee). But Rush is no friend of Ron Paul and does not take him seriously.

I don't think Huckabee is charismatic BLERK...His followers evidently do. Clinton was mentioned. Now he was indeed charismatic.

How RP answered the Tax question with Beck

I was confused by the tax question RP answered in the Glenn Beck interview, I see this as a key point to clearify for the next interview on "Meet the Press".

If only he had been given more time I am sure we would have heard the rest of his answer, but it left me worried how Beck's general audience would take this. Can anyone link me to how RP usually answers this complex question? (I'm pretty well versed in Austrian Economics, but he is making a careful straddle here between constitutionalism and a completely unhampered natural order society.)

Quote:

Beck: So -- so you want to replace it with -- with a -- with some sort of a sales tax?

PAUL: No, nothing.

BECK: Nothing. How...

PAUL: I want to replace it with freedom. I want to replace it with freedom and less spending.

BECK: OK. But wait a minute. Hang on just a second.

PAUL: But you`re right. Yes, OK.

BECK: I mean, I love you. Don`t get me wrong. How do we pay for the things we do have to pay for?

PAUL: Well, you know, if you didn`t have the income tax right now, you`d have the same amount of revenue as you had 10 years ago. So that`s not all that bad. And we didn`t have an income tax before 1913. They used -- they used tariffs and they used user fee types and different things like that.

BECK: But wouldn`t you create the same...

PAUL: The problem is spending.

BECK: Oh, I agree with you. But wouldn`t you create the same kind of situation if you had user fees? Because then you`d have special interests that were just saying, no, this one should be exempt and this one shouldn`t.

PAUL: Well, I guess so. But anything would be better than the income tax. But, you know, if you -- if we do have a user fee, which we abuse, you have a user fee by paying a national gasoline tax. And that`s supposed to take care of our highways, but they abuse that system, too.

BECK: Yes, yes.

PAUL: They don`t spend it on the highways, and they use it for political boondoggles is what happens.

BECK: Back in a minute with Dr. Paul`s controversial views on foreign policy, the CIA, FBI, the Patriot Act and the war on drugs. He`ll get more than 30 seconds to explain it all. Stick around.
