RP Booths at Iowa County Fairs

Also please let me know if you are able to recruit any other volunteers!

I have 2 people possibly interested but don't have details yet; they said they'd get back to me. I may see one of them at a parade tomorrow. (I'm going to be in a parade tomorrow! Sooo unlike me, but all for Ron Paul!:) Another one (Jill) volunteered to help out with Adair co. in Greenfield from 4-8 on 7/20, 9-1 on 7/21, and 9-1 on 7/22. She says she can also do Bremer co. in Waverly from noon-4 on 8/4, and 9-1 on 8/5. I don't know that anybody's contacted these fairs though and reserved a booth for sure... I'll ask her, but I'm doubting it. She's super busy too, organizing so many things for Ron Paul!

On Ron Paul Flix it should be someplace you can just watch.

As to Jill, is this The Jill of Lauren and Jill? If so, they had sent a bunch of applications in, but unclear as to which fairs.

I just went through the thread and found that we haven't followed up with some volunteers:

Post #57 and #59 – untapped vols? Mallory (Des Moines Aug 3-15) and Oukvekpwv (Ames – no transport), #100 Ray (Ames Aug 6-14)

The largest fairs lack coverage - we need to do something about that.

Anyway, this is a long thread, so I put together a roadmap of important posts. I didn't include any on handing out food and drink as there are generally rules about that, but popcorn might be OK - worth asking. There are places that rent the poppers as part of fair supplies.

The most up to date list of fairs we are covering is in post #163. Most could use additional volunteers if you are close by.

Posts #33 and #34 have some notes on tables, tents, electricity, setup and tear down, etc.
Post #53 is about tables and tents, including sources
Post #62-3, 143, 150, are about video's that would be good to play at a booth
Post #85 and #90 is about fans
Post #87 is about goals and information
Post #102 is about setting up WiFi Hotspots
Post #118 is about balloons and mini-blimps
Post #119 and 122 10'x10' tent available for loan
Post #130 is about Parade Floats
Posts #151-2, 180 are about banners
Posts #166-170, 175-77, 179 are about the campaign paying fees, supplying material and insurance.
Post #180 Free handout cards for RonPaulFlix

As to the ones where we have volunteers names after them, it should be the volunteers that know what's set. Best to contact them. They should all be go's.

The campaign said they were going to do the 25 with the highest attendance. It's sort of sounding like they are not doing this, but that needs to be verified and if not, the grassroots should make a push to do the more populated ones. The campaign hasn't said anything more about this so maybe they are fully staffed and paid for and maybe they have done nothing. That you are doing one of those and the campaign is willing to help you this way, suggests they have done nothing.

Then there are the ones on the list where the fair name is bolded meaning that we either have a Meetup there or orphaned supporters. These are ones that the local Meetup may be doing and we just don't know about, or where they could do it with a little nudging.

When next you talk to Ryan, could you also ask if they are only willing to help with fair costs and materials if the fair is on the top 25 list? as well as which of the top 25 ones they have confirmed and staffed?

Also, Lauren and Jill said they had applied to a number of fairs and were waiting to hear back from them, but didn't indicate which fairs.

The only fair where it looks like we have good staffing is Wapello. We could use additional people everywhere else.

So I guess the best answer to your question is fetch a blindfold and some darts and...

So the campaign is just staffing the biggest 25 count fairs...everything else will be up to the grassroots?

I don't believe it's the same Jill. This Jill is somebody I know through ICFL and Republican party events in Polk co. I think she's in charge of volunteering for the GOP -- or co-in charge or something -- so she's a great resource.

Thanks for the guide, that's helpful. This thread is long, and I start reading through every single post if I go looking for something!

Has anybody else who's already secured booths had to deal with the insurance question? I guess I'm just lucky to get the first two that require it? :) I let Steve B know and am awaiting info from him and from an insurance company I talked to that wasn't sure about such an odd request... (I thought it might be nice if we could find a policy that covers ALL the fairs instead of just buying it for each one... we shall see. Maybe.)

Just on my way to set up at Wapello Co Fair - the first fair of the summer. I will send a picture. I just posted this to Facebook Iowa for Ron Paul page:

Iowa for Ron Paul 2012
Reminder: all Ron Paul supporters in Jefferson County will be meeting at 12PM at Barrigas Mexican Family Restaurant in Fairfield, IA! http://www.meetup.com/Fairfield4RonPaul/events/22228221/

Brian Horsfield Awesome meeting!! About 20 Ron Paul supporters turned out and took over the patio of the restaurant. From this meeting we've committed to a Ron Paul Table for Fairfield's All Things Italian Street Festival tomorrow (saturday) evening. See http://www.allthingsitalian.org/. Look for us outside Mohan Delites restaurant to get bumper stickers and sign up sheets for the Ames Straw Poll.

And we got 3 more volunteers to help set up Wapello County Fair booth at Eldon starting this evening. And we'll have Ron Paul literature and sign up sheets at the GOP booth Jefferson County Fair starting Tuesday next week. And several people signed up to help with phone banking event to contact the huge list of Ron Paul supporters in Iowa. Great job Ani- thanks so much for coming to see us!

Some fairs require insurance, some don't.

This place covers insurance over a duration 5 days to a year, and caters specifically to fairs:

It might be somewhat more as some fairs are going on at the same time.

Warren co.

Looks like Warren co. (Indianola) is out; no booth space left. I'm wishing right now that Ron Paul declared just a little bit earlier... :)

My mom used to work for an insurance company and she thought they might be able to cover all the fairs on one policy or something, but that it would be better to use the insurance company you already use to get a better rate. But I think that has to be the campaign to take care of that so I'm waiting on them. Unfortunately, that might mean a delay in sending the application and registration fee and thus no more spaces, especially in the case of Marion co. Hopefully not...

Anybody wanna volunteer at Dallas co?

I have a Dallas co. app and he says there are still booths available. Table and chairs included, $75 for 7/13-7/17. That overlaps with quite a few fairs though. Is there anybody able to cover Dallas co. (Adel, very close to DSM) 7/14-7/17? (I could do 7/13.) If I know there are volunteers, I will go ahead and send the registration fee. No insurance required, fortunately. :)

Thanks!

Can we get two volunteers for Dallas County? :)

Can we get two volunteers for Dallas County? :)

I just posted this on the DES moines Meetup page. Great work Michelle!

Also I just mailed out apps for a few fairs here in western Iowa: Pottawattamie Shelby and Woodbury counties. Any takers?

Thanks!

Although, more than 2 would be OK too. I can only cover the 1st day out of 5. Estimated time of the fair is 11-6. I'll go ahead and email some people again too.

Madison county fair

I just submitted the paperwork for the Madison County Fair. We (the Madison County Team) will be looking for volunteers to help man the booth if anyone wants to!!! It is by no means a huge fair, but WE WILL BE HUGE THERE! :) The fair runs July 20th thru July 24th..(Wed thru Sun)...

Bump...Anyone covering Allamakee County in a few weeks? I can be there for one day.

Are there any Meetup Or Facebook groups in southwest wisconsin we could hit up? I emailed a couple of YAL leaders a month or two back but you're still the only volunteer I know of up there.

I would suggest to go Facebook and check out Wisconsin's CFL page and ask around. There was an RP meetup group in La Crosse four years ago and I know he has supporters down that way.
