Sorry but I'm kind of confused. I just explained in a paragraph why this will never work and will only crash the server (Likely in the first few minutes depending on donation pace) if you were able to pull in the amount of donations per hour you wish for. Then an hour or so later... you post and completely ignore this.. is it not relevant? If you were around at the last hour of the Dec. 16th money-bomb you would know this is never going to work (The servers couldn't even handle 1/5th of this load) and now you want to try this out..?

It is good people are thinking of new and fun ideas but if its going to not work and is very possibly going to sabotage our money-bomb day (At least for the hour or so the server crashes) how is ignoring that wise? The money is going to be donated on the first of February! It doesn't matter when but if you don't keep it random and let people choose when to donate randomly you will overload the servers and halt all donations! You guys I'm trying to help avoid an accident waiting to happen.. this idea has the right intentions but some of the worst things ever ideas ever started with the best intentions. Theres no if, and, or buts to it... this will definitely crash the server and then you can forget about the million coming in at all. Just spread the donations out and whatever you do don't crash the server on the day we need it up the most! Please think this through guys the servers cannot handle this and therefore its impossible to ever work.

I agree. And I'm the director of programming for a web company, so I know what I'm talking about. It's just silly and there's no practical reason to do this in one hour. The MSM will ignore us just as much if we raise $1 million in 1 hour as they will if we raise $5 million in 24 hours. Let's be sensible. As long as you donate on Feb 1st, the time is irrelevant.

$400,000-$500,000 was raised in the first hour with NO problems at all.

The problems that occured at the end of Dec.16 were because everyone who had already donated kept going back again and again to check the total.

This was brought up before and someone posted elsewhere in the forum that HQ said something like this is possible when they contacted them to ask if the servers could handle that much in an hour.

What is the most donors in 1 hour so far? 4000-5000?

I hope your info is accurate.. that it was just people checking the website at 11:00. I wonder though what makes you think there won't be just as many people at the website during this hour. I think the time you donate on February 1st is irrelevant and it's really not worth risking overloading the website. If you're certain it won't well then have at it..

I believe there were over 4,000 people logged into this forum near the end of the big money bomb. I noticed the site was getting slower and slower as i tried to read postings, then it finally froze up.

We need to spread this message outside of just this board on the forum.

Cover the forum with it so everyone here knows, and spread the word outside of it to the meetup groups.

Crashing the servers is only a possibility, not definite. I read they had improved their infrastructure since the last money bomb. I say we try to do it in 1 hour, and if it crashes, just go back and donate later in the day.

It would be nice if we could get a large amount of large donations. 952 x $1051 would be pretty awesome.

I'd even be willing to promote anyone's business, website, ebay auctions, etc. until they made that back if they were to donate $1000 or more to Ron Paul on Feb.1 between 12am and 1am ET.

Personal opinion: I'm not sure there are any negative side effects of Big Media reporting that the Ron Paul servers were crashed do to a huge volume of traffic.

Yeah, I just read again what I typed above. Hang on while I put my imagination to work:

"(Friday morning) News flash: Ron Paul's official website technicians were hard pressed during the early hours of this morning to keep the site up and running during what appears to be the largest donation drive of Ron Paul's campaign to date. With an estimated 30,000 visitors during the first hour alone, even with the precautions put in place (including the temporary removal of pictures and other official website features that would increase load-times), the server still remained on the brink of crashing throughout the first hour. Ron Paul's campaign advisors reassure us that this is not an outside attempt to sabatoge the efforts, but rather, just another indication that 'freedom is indeed popular.' There is currently an effort to create mirror websites to handle the overflow of donations expected throughout the day."

Yeah, you guys are right, a crashed server sounds horrible. The news media would have to talk about it all day. :D

I can't donate a penny, not until the 5th, when I'm paid!

or ask to borrow from someone and you'll pay them back. Or put on credit and pay it off before the interest is charged. or put it on credit what you can afford to pay over the next several months. ;)

We have people pledged to donate on that day already. They will donate at some point why should we try to do 1million in 1 hour unless we are trying to sabotage our money-bomb. I say this because there is absolutely no way their website can handle these many donations per hour. It crashed on Dec 16th for having less than 1/5 of the donations per hour than what your asking and once crashed donations couldn't be sent in for another 45-minutes until it was fixed. If you guys try to do this all in 1 hour the website will crash and no donations will be able to get through until they fix it. Sorry to disagree with pretty much everyone here but his is an accident waiting to happen. On Dec 16th the servers crashed in the last 45minutes of our event because donations were at a new record speed. Keep in mind this was only about 200k per hour and you're trying to do this times five (Meaning it will absolutely crash). People will donate on February 1st.. what time they donate makes no difference, except it should be kept completely random so no group is donating like crazy and crashes the website (halting further donations). I guarantee you the servers can never ever handle this kind of pressure or even close to it.

I didn't read these posts before I pledged to donate between 12:05 and 12:10 ET. I'm renigging my pledge. I'm not taking the chance of taking part in crashing the server. It's not worth it. I'll donate sometime tomorrow. Who cares what hour he gets it as long as he gets it?
