Ron Paul supporters kicked out of GOP meeting

An ongoing spat between supporters of Republican presidential candidates John McCain and Ron Paul flared again Thursday, when pro-Paul dissidents were kicked out of a Pasco County GOP Executive Committee meeting.

Sofie Lefebvre, a Paul supporter, said a sheriff's deputy escorted her and her husband out of the Land O'Lakes Senior Center, where the meeting was held.

Their offense?

They are Republicans who don't support presumptive nominee McCain. Though McCain's nomination is all but assured by delegate count, Paul is still in the race.

"It's this little nasty game going on," Lefebvre said. "This isn't America where you don't let your own people into meetings. This is absolute fascism."

Bill Bunting, the committee's chairman, said it was a "special" meeting open only to precinct committee members, and he did not want any disruption of a busy organizational session.

"We had a limited number of seats," he said. "Sheriff's deputies will be hired from time to time. We're not going to have interference from people who are not members yet."

Lefebvre thought she saw two deputies, and guessed that about 10 people got the boot. Doug Tobin, the sheriff's spokesman, said only one off-duty deputy, hired by Bunting, was present. Tobin said two people were asked to leave. A third showed up and left on his own accord when told it was an executive committee meeting, he said.

Bunting couldn't recall the last time the committee hired deputies for such purposes, and acknowledged such meetings used to be open to all registered Republicans, even those who aren't precinct members. He said Thursday's meeting saw a "record crowd" of about 115.

"If you're trying to focus on work, and four or five people come in and throw your routine off, I don't think you'd accept that," Bunting said.

Lefebvre has no issue with the Sheriff's Office. She said the deputy told her he was hired to "keep certain people away."

"The deputy was so sweet," she said. "He said this isn't right."

The feud isn't new. In late March, during an executive committee meeting, Bunting publicly questioned the party loyalty of three Paul supporters and wouldn't give them precinct appointments they had applied for.

He later told the Pasco Times that he wanted unity behind McCain.

The state GOP signaled Friday it was behind Bunting.

"I've heard the chairman say that the time has come for unity in the party, and we're all now united behind McCain," said spokeswoman Katie Gordon. "If you're cooperative and want unity, then you're more than welcome."

Lefebvre said GOP elders Mike Bilirakis and John Renke II told her they felt she had been mistreated at Thursday's meeting. Neither man replied to calls from the Times on Friday.

Toward the end of his interview with the Times, Bunting took a parting shot.

He said Lefebvre still owes his committee $2,100 for 70 tickets to the Republican straw poll in St. Petersburg in December.

Lefebvre said it was $1,400, not $2,100. She said the way votes were counted at that straw poll didn't turn out the way it was advertised, so she doesn't feel she owes Bunting any money, though she's tried returning the balance of the tickets.

"What I bought was not what was communicated when I bought them," she said. "I don't owe them anything."

This is outrageous! The GOP Platform is being developed at the Convention. So what is the big deal if Ron Paul Candidates don't endorse Ron Paul.

Again, it is the platform we are concerned about and Ron Paul delegates are NOT required by law to endorse McCain.

This only will defeat the GOP in general election, are they stupid or something!

ofcourse they are stupid, they support John McCain! At the very least they are ignorant.

They still think the Ron Paul revolution is a game or a joke, they think we will go peacefully into the night with all the other lost cause protests in this country. What they fail to realize is Ron Pauls presidential candidacy is just a preamble to the Revolutionary movement. Our ranks continue and will continue to grow with every fuckup from the neocons and liberals alike. All hell cant stop us now.

We should all be writing to Gov. Charlie Crist in Florida about how disgusting the behavior of our GOP party leaders are.

Hmmm MO too

From my observations here in Washington (victory in Spokane!) the Republican party is infested by hacks who only got control of the party because people who should care never showed up to the meetings. There are thousands of seats that go unfilled.

We already outnumber the hacks in every state. All we need to do is show up for these meetings and the PCO elections and we can take over this party.

I am currently involved in that activity, and have already had to tangle with the corrupted old guard. I can say one thing about them accurately:

THEY ARE SCARED

Kicking these assholes out of their own party will be worse than killing them. I think they would prefer to be shot.

Making this all the more enjoyable.

And we still allow this stuff to happen, the gop is ran by bullshit and what does the left wing offer? NOTHING EITHER, our whole party system is fake.

What is actually outrageous is those of you left on here that are still beating a dead horse, and still maintaining your GOP status, thinking you are going to "change" the GOP.

Register Independent. Register Libertarian. Register Constitution Party. But the time has long past for members on this Forum, and RP supporters in general, to leave the Republican Party ... because the Republican Party is not changing, no matter how noble your intentions are.

Why would anyone even want to remain in a Party like this after the stunts they've pulled like this across the country?

All you need to do is go online and change your Party status, today. It takes 5 seconds.

The real way to beat the GOP is to just let it die.

Quoted For Truth. I registered on these forums to post my opinion of the GOP when most supporters here wanted to blame and boycott the MEDIA for the way the GOP ran their 'debates'. The party makes the rules when it comes to party policy and the way private corporations like news stations participate. Yet they still talk about "RP Republicans" and winning delegates...

If you look at the numbers it's obvious that the next president will be a democrat and we will have helped by playing the 2 party game. We already have centralized government education and welfare. We have been promised that the future will bring universal health care, carbon tax (to fight global warming), and more government employees/jobs (in the form of 'green tech' and Homeland Security). Sounds like Socialism to me.

All of this talk about the GOP seems erroneous to me when there seems to be what MLK called "the urgency of now".

If you want to turn a nothing party into a competitive one, be my guest. I'll be sure to hold my breath while you make it happen.

Face it, we are a two party system. If we don't take over the Republican Party, then we will have to take over the Democratic Party, because the only thing that will be accomplished by putting our base into a third party will be to take a few votes away from the Republicans.

Changing the GOP won't be quick or easy, but it will be a LOT quicker and a LOT easier than creating a new one out of whole cloth. Doing so would be like trying to open a new nationwide utility in the face of existing competition. Building up the infrastructure will be prohibitively expensive. Why spend all that money when we could just take over the one that is about to collapse on its own.

Are you a troll?

Because your advice is exactly what the enemy wants us to do.

This is a two party system, we need to take over one of the two parties to have any chance.

But by all means, go outside and throw pebbles at the window. Maybe someone will listen to you.

We should continue to hammer away at trying to change the GOP. But, IMHO, it is probably time to concede the field to the McCain crowd for the next several months. Let him get slaughtered in November (unless the Democrats actually find a way to blow this thing... which they might).... AND then... be ready to rise up as the banner holders for true limited government conservatism in 2009 when the party elite is smarting from defeat and more willing to seek out a new message.

Now is NOT the time however... This kind of disruptive behavior by RP supporters will only provide the Neo-Cons with a scapegoat for McCain's defeat... "If those damn Paul supporters weren't screwing with all our party meetings... etc.." Fuck that. Don't fall into that trap. We can make serious in-roads in the GOP come January... if we just bite our tongues for the moment and appear to be "good McCain Republicans" for a little while...

Remember the Patriots didn't have their best successes by marching out and fighting the Red Coats... they had them by laying low in the wilderness and springing into action when the timing was right...

Well, you are half right. Only problem is, Ron Paul is a Republican. At least thats what it says after his name on C-Span.

My only advice to you is to take this door to the left that says Obama on it and walk through it. Here...i'll hold the door open for you. Its this way..
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<...buh bye.

Goldwater was a republican, Reagan was a republican, Paul is a republican. The theo/neo cons infiltrated and took over the party, changing it for their own personal goals.

Just like they did, we can do also. Just like Goldwater did, where in which Reagan capitalized upon, our supporters infiltrate where we can. When the time comes, we will have the majority and our goals will be met to set right a party that has been tainted in the years since Bush Sr.

If you check your Pasco County history, you will find that the Republican Party of Florida under Al Cardenas removed Bill Bunting from the committee because he disrupted the party so much.

We should continue to hammer away at trying to change the GOP. But, IMHO, it is probably time to concede the field to the McCain crowd for the next several months. Let him get slaughtered in November (unless the Democrats actually find a way to blow this thing... which they might).... I agree completely. To me there's no point in getting involved now, when you'll be expected to be a good little neo-con bot and work on getting mccain elected. Wait until he gets thrashed in November, then show up en masse to take over the machinery of the party. The neo-con hacks will be demoralized, and then you make the case that a real conservative has to be run next time.

Obviously, we can't let things like this stop us with excellent news happening elsewhere in the US. It should serve as MOTIVATION.
