[UPDATE FREE TICKET LINK --> http://ronpaulatuvu.eventbrite.com/ It looks like they have moved to the larger 8000 seat UCCU]
Students will have the unique opportunity next week on Oct. 18 to hear Texas Congressman and former Republican Presidential Candidate Ron Paul speak on campus. Paul will be speaking as part of the university speaker series organized by the UVUSA Department of Academics. The event will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom.

The opportunity to host Paul came unexpectedly. According to Assistant Dean of Students Phil Clegg, The Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) contacted Dean of Students Dr. Bob Rasmussen to inquire about using the university as a venue for several activities and meetings with Paul. Rasmussen accepted and began working with Erin Haskell, UVUSA Vice President of Academics, to coordinate an event where Paul could speak to students while on campus with the YPO.

Paul was one of four candidates in the Republican Party presidential primaries earlier this year. In February, when the Republican presidential candidate had not been nominated, KSL conducted a poll asking Utah residents for whom they would vote in the upcoming election. Paul won the poll with 9,000 votes compared to the 1,800 votes for the other three candidates combined.

I guess we'll find out crowd size post election for Utah.

We in California challenge you, Utah, to show us how it is done!

[Update: it has been moved to the larger UCCU and you can get free tickets here: http://ronpaulatuvu.eventbrite.com/ ]

It can hold up to 1000 chairs in normal configuration. The UCCU they didn't take (as mentioned in the article) seats 8000.

Nothing in between?

Hm.

while it completely makes sense not to go to a 8000 seater on short notice when no campaign is on, I note that the UCCU does have 'in house pyrotechnics' capability, and that one recent thread here was speculating on how that would look in a Ron Paul rally... :p

I saw this thread the other day at lunch. It is some of the best news I've seen in a long time!

Liberty, Freedom, law and order, once again it marches out in the open for all to join in.

It is like the Yellow Submarine is once again coming to the rescue.

We learned in the sixties that it isn't so much about holding someone down more than it is helping them up to join you. It can take a special something to do that. The secrets lie within. (And is revealed at about 1:12:20 in the video)

Apparently he's speaking at a college in Victoria Texas after appearing in a parade on 10/13 as well!

Tsai posted it.

edit, and at 11:11:11 the big blue meanie says 'Crush them! Obliterate them!'

Would that be what you meant?

Or the song that came on, after that?

The event in Utah has been moved to an arena that can fit 8,000.

So cool! I was hoping that would happen when I saw 800 people had signed up on facebook in one day, and that was before tickets were even available!

I wouldn't count on 8000 of course, I'm expecting he'd speak to half the stadium from the middle as has happened some other places. But that he CAN take 8000 is terrific!

edit, yep, the UCCU center is now the venue per the facebook invitation! http://www.facebook.com/events/116129735206737/
